what you have to do to get it out of recovery mode is hold down the home button and the lock button at the same time for 15 seconds then once its been 15 seconds hold only the lock button for 2 seconds and it will leave recovery mode comment on this if i helped

Bought a jailbroken 2nd gen ipod touch and it got stuck in recovery mode when I tried to restore it to factory settings, just restarted computer and unplugged any other USB devices and it restored fine

so i in 2020 so this is the newest way to do it.. I had to hold the power and home button for 10 seconds and have it turn on and then just hold the home button till the screen with an iTunes thing came up, then I plugged it into my computer and went to the latest version of iTunes and then had to unplug it several times for it to show up. I then clicked the reboot/ restore button. i did this on my laptop which did not work, so using a good computer is the way to go. After many tried the apple shows up with a bar on the screen and it takes like 7 minutes to fully finish restoring the iPod touch 2nd gen.

this happened to me to what i did to fix it was i downloaded a 5.1.1 restore firmware witch you could what your device was at than i shift clicked restore than it said there was an error my ipod rebooted than it went back to normal without jailbreak
@Jan MartinXDdoes it fail early during the restore or late? I was restoring my iPhone 3GS, failed with error code 1015 at the end but I used 3u tools to kick it out of recovery mode and it just booted into iOS no problem.
I couldnt fix mine...An unknown error has occured (1604).. I had to take it to a tech shop that sold ipod accessories and iphone stuff...$50 later...but it was fixed..just wasnt recommended to update software anytime soon..or it would lock me out again...

Try cleaning the contacts (the charging dock) with rubbing alcohol, i had the same problem with mine and that's what I did and it fired up.
I installed iMazing - totally worked to recover the Ipod et reinstall it.

3utools has an option to take the ipod touch out of recovery mode. Your device isn't bricked, dont worry.

Thanks to the TheBandsr comment my ipod touch 2nd generation is working again.

Turn it off and then hold down the home button while plugging it into a PC with iTunes open. This should fix it.

what i did was i reinstalled itunes, connected ipod, but it in def mode (black srceen) and click restore. it worked for me.

Its probly because apple only lets u restore to ios 5 only so you may need to buy a new one

Untrue, there's a few programs, mainly 3utools, which can take the ipod out of recovery mode
