  • This was supposed to be a repot with me of me repotting a philodendron, but I noticed some odd things going on with the plant and figured it would be more interesting to just give the updates and talk about what's going on with the plant. Overall from everything I discussed in the video, I'd say it needs a larger pot and a lot more light, even though the variegation suggest to me it's getting plenty of light, it's growth habit says otherwise.

Hey Jeff, thanks for sharing the video. 😊
I’m sure you’re aware of this, but my tip for removing stuck roots is a dull knife, like an old butter knife, to carefully run around the inside of the pot and loosen the roots. For larger pots I use a dollar store icing spatula. If no saucer is attached to the pot, a dowel is useful to push out a compact rootball.
For bark climbing poles, an arborist will usually be happy to supply those free, often cutting them to size for you.
    Good luck!!
    😸✌️

“If it wants to branch off that’s cool if not it’s been nice knowing ya” 😂😂 i totes feel the same way when I chop my plants. Would love an update on this plant! Thinking about getting one!

Nice! I dont have the variegated version...I have the reg. it is a very fast grower indeed. If you are looking for something more bushy...try serendipity. Nice shaped leaves, but dont try to climb. (got that one too) A nice climber (viny) is the Hawaiian Pothos. LOVE IT. large variegated leaves, slow grower and just a wowzer!

My son-in-law has a saw mill. I had him cut me a couple of live edge boards, he really doesn’t use that part anyway, but they look nice in pots that have pothos climbing up them. I really should have him cut me some more so some of my other plants can climb up them. Maybe if you like the look you could get some planks at the lumber yard and have your climber climb up them.🌸💚🙃

I have the non veragated version of this plant, purchased a rooted stem cutting in april.. it put out 2 juvenile leaves and now has put on 4 huge ones over 18" across. I also thought I would have more time,I need to clear out more space for it!! I even placed it in deep shade to try to slow it down. No dice. It's going to be a monster!

Take a top cutting and restart the plant while you decide what to do with the big one. Maybe starting from cutting you can influence the growth in the way you want.

That’s a beautiful plant. Learned a lot listening to your thoughts about what to do next. Can’t wait to see what it does when you finally decide to find something to let it climb on. I like these kind of video vlogs

Hi Jeff! Your plant is looking really good considering the shape it was in when you got it. To me, it definitely looks like it needs a repot. I hope you'll video it when you do repot it. I'm curious to see what the root system looks like. I hope you're doing ok. It's just odd that you've only replied on one comment. Thank you so much for sharing!

Hey Sandy! As the channel has grown, I tend to see the comments for whatever my latest video is before all of the others, so I mostly focus on getting through those. I'm sorry! I try my best to reply to as many comments as I can, there are just a lot of them to keep up with these days.

Got a new kitten a couple of weeks ago and she loves to terrorize the dogs. She looks like a rag doll and seems to have the personality of a rag doll when she isn’t terrorizing the dogs but she was a barn born kitty. They had or was about to have 26 cats on their farm so they were trying to get rid of a few and when I saw this kitty I knew she had to be ours. My daughter in Va. just spent a good deal of money on a rag doll and he was so cute that when I saw this kitten and she looked like him I thought we needed to have a look alike. Still haven’t given her a name, it’s so hard to decide, I like Oh No but it’s not a popular choice among other family members ☹️🌸💚🙃

Hi Jeff, when you take your blue planters that you have supertunia vista's in by your pool (last year you had alocasia maui golds in them), I replicated them this year and I love them so much! I have never made a plant arrangement before. When you bring them in, if you wanted them to be exactly the same next year, do you disassemble them? Or leave them all in?

Love your vids - we watch them all the time and cant wait for the new ones to come out! Entertaining AND informative!! :) Could you please help? I'm in zone 5b and need to repot a spidermite damaged hibiscus tree, and my 12" potted windmill palms are just not growing at ALL (choked by petunias and cannas maybe) so I want to repot those too. However, I'm hung up on the soil. I cant get much this time of year here. I have a big cube of peat, a bag of succulent soil, small bag of orchid bark, bag of vermiculite and bag of perlite. Can I make a soil mix for these? The internet has me SO confused :( (I dont have any coir) Thank you so much!!!

I’ve sadly neglected my houseplants this summer. I guess I’m an outdoor kinda gal more, I love it outside and hate being cooped up during the winter months and as we head towards fall my depression sets in knowing soon the snow will fly and we won’t be seeing any sunshine for weeks at a time. It’s threatening rain today but sadly only threatening so far. WE DESPERATELY NEED RAIN. My fingers are crossed 🤞🏻 and my toes, it’s hard to walk with your toes crossed, JK. I can’t do the toe thing. Here I go again babbling like a brook sorry. 🌸💚🙃

That's a big change! There are a lot of good hardy "tropicals" for zone 7a. The hedychium gingers are wonderful, cannas, windmill palms, sabal minor palms, needle palms and really a bunch of others that would probably do well, but might need occasional protection. I did a video last fall on 25 of my favorite tropical looking plants for cold climates. I'll go find it and paste the link to the video description.
