My dad has this same bike, he is rebuilding the carborator. After that, it should start. My dad stopped using it in 1999 and we are trying to get it to run again. Everything is original, the carobrator just needs to get rebuilt.
When the gear shifter falls like that does it destroy the engine? I think that might’ve happened to one I’m going to go look at tomorrow, I hope not because it’s seriously mint
I would check the coolant temp sensor on the thermostat housing to make sure the wire is clean and connected. Might need to replace the sensor if it is.

So I have a question about the surge tank and carb rebuild. I saw your video on the carb removal and cleaning. So I had a pro mechanic take my carb apart he found one of the set screws were broken off inside the carb so he couldn’t remove it. I got a used carb put in in its place and adjusted. $850 labor plus $350 carb and it ran for 3 months and same carb problem started up again. I am working on it myself now. On eBay I found a carb and manifold kit that replaces stock carb so it is just a single carb. So my question is the oil vent that goes into the surge tank. Is that important. Can I just remove surge tank and put breather filters on the two hoses that went into surge tank? I haven’t received the carb in the mail yet. The parts I think I will need to customize are the throttle line and choke connections as well as how I will attach an air filter. Any tips you can give will help. Here is link to the part I got. www.ebay.com/itm/175306627305?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=80dw7j1eqna&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=HC4R2dpeTTW&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
