Arkansas State Police 109 MPH PIT Maneuver | The Complete Pursuit

- A few moments of this footage have been widely circulated, largely without context. Today, for the first time, Real World Police presents all of the footage associated with the April 10, 2020 pursuit of Justin Battenfield, along with significant new background information regarding the incident. This video is intended for educational and news reporting purposes. It is not intended to shock.
From the report of Trooper Shawn Ellis, lightly edited for clarity:
On April 10, 2020, at approximately 6:40 AM, Troop H dispatch advised that Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office was requesting assistance with a pursuit. Deputies were pursuing a black pickup, driven by Justin Battenfield, which had recklessly driven through several traffic lights without stopping and was passing traffic on the shoulder of U.S. 71.
The pursuit of Battenfield has been initiated in the area of Ingersoll Circle and U.S. 71 at approximately 6:36 AM by a Forest Service Ranger. At approximately 6:53 AM, I checked In-Service with Troop H Dispatch and traveled towards U.S. 71 from State Highway 45.
At approximately 6:54 AM, at the intersection of State Highway 45 and U.S. 71, I joined the pursuit as it traveled north on U.S. 71, soon becoming the lead vehicle in the pursuit. While pursuing Battenfield, he traveled through several traffic lights and passed multiple vehicles while driving on the shoulder before turning east onto Zero Street. This particular section of Zero Street (SH255) is a four-lane roadway, divided by a continuous center turn lane and was at the peak of a hill crest. In the area of 66th Street, the pickup began crossing into the westbound traffic lanes meeting traffic at a high rate of speed.
After I relayed the suspect’s actions to Troop H Dispatch, Sgt. Brandon Margis advised that due to Battenfield’s extremely reckless driving, and lack of due regard for the safety of the public that I needed to get the pickup stopped immediately. I then attempted a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. While executing the PIT, my unit collided with the passenger side of the suspect vehicle. As a result, both vehicles traveled off the roadway and into the east side ditch.
Battenfield’s vehicle collided with a driveway culvert while overturning and my unit went airborne as it traveled over Battenfield’s vehicle. Battenfield sustained fatal injuries and I sustained multiple serious injuries."

“Go ahead and contact EMS” was the understatement of the century. My Lord, that was insane!

@@joshuasharrock466 more along the lines of one idiotic pit maneuver.
Nature takes another stupid cop.
He's got one hell of a story to tell his family and friends! That's fir sure! Thank God he's alright!
I have seen a couple of videos where a pit successfully helped rescue kidnapped women, stopped incredibly dangerous drivers and a multitude of thugs willing to shoot anyone. There is a reason for these pits - people that run from the police and speed like that are not your friend. Them being on the road is a danger to everyone else and the police risk their lives knowingly to keep the rest of us safe. Thank you to the officer and I hope he has had a full recovery.
Couldn’t agree more. Too many times people complain that the police were excessive. But you are right when you say they are not your friend. In fact, most people who flee police care zero about anyone else on the road. They look at innocent drivers as a nuisance and the last thing on their mind is other people’s safety.
Doing a PIT at 109 miles per hour is simply not worth it. There's a fine line between trying to look like a badass in front of your cop buddies or trying to get your name on the board for most pit maneuvers, but it comes at the expense of everyone else's safety.
How would the cops know if a women was in there except after from the coroner?!
End high speed chases. Right to trial oops nah we killed him and almost one of our brothers. Safer to get a motorcycle and stay off the roads.
this shit is beyond dumb. Everybody can easily die including bystanders. This assclown was not serving or protecting anyone in society. He was trying to get some... And his dumb ass did! Anyone who thinks his behavior is anything short of reckless is just as stupid as he is. @@wave5201 Did you watch the entire video? They had zero options. This guy was going to kill someone if they didn't get him stopped. And you should have noticed that they passed on many opportunities to PIT him and didn't due to safety concerns. Folks, ALWAYS THANK OUR 1ST RESPONDERS, & maybe even pay for their meal.
I am just now viewing this video. I thank God the officer survived. I pray he is doing well and is in good health. This happened in 2020. He is a hero. God bless all officers 🙏 who are in car chasees. It's very dangerous. Thank you and stay safe 🙏 ❤️ you are all heroes to me.
He ain't no damn hero. He's a jackass. Cops always seem real concerned about everyone safety except when it involves high speed chases running red lights at 100 miles an hr. Ignorant
I am just now seeing this too and I am in tears for the officer!! I am so glad he survived, I was really worried at first. Thank you to the officers who go above and beyond to keep us all safe! I pray the officer is healing and doing well by now, it would be nice to know how he is doing.
First Dodge Charger to show up on Air Traffic Control radar
😆😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lol
LOL
The Fort Smith Airport is right there, too - literally across the highway to the north.
First? More like the first that wasn't the General Lee
Internet: Everyone has only seen last 60sec..now you can watch whole video.
Me: Fast forward to last 61sec.
I forward to the last 6 minutes..
Lol
Me too
Mee too
I think it's disgusting they should have stopped at Chase miles and miles before and let the that truck go unless he was involved in a murderer or some heinous crime what the f*** are drive that way he will slow down at some point those cops risk too many lives on that Chase this s*** needs to come to an end with the chasing
109mph pit maneuver is reckless and insane
it's criminal...
@@alannise5976 you are on the left side of most bell curves
who was the state trooper who stopped justin???? i cant find any info
Need a freeze frame at 13:04. And Waylon narrating..”You know, there's a certain creek that people sometimes canoe up without a paddle. You could say that the Duke boys were on that particular creek right now.”
Man one of my favorite shows. Glad i got those Duke boys on DVD.
I saw that and all I could think was that that Charger better have had a Dixie horn!
LMAO
Lmao...too damn funny!!!!
this made me fall out my seat. XD
According to FAA regs, he was required to ask the tower for permission to land. I noticed that his seatbacks were not in the upright position and all his tray tables were not stowed. He might lose his pilot's license over this
That's a good one
lol....good one
Items definitely shifted during flight!
Taking off without green light from control tower....lucky no Air Forces MiG in the zone!!
nah he was good. You don't need permission to land in uncontrolled airspace. However he should have called base and final for other air traffic in the area.
Hero!!!!! Thank you for your service officer!
Yes he’s a hero and God Bless all our law enforcement officers.
He is no hero. He was just doing his job and he is very bad at his job. He is insane to do this at that speed. He is no hero.
Next time just tap the bumper?
Doesn’t take much.
That was a full blown tackle.
Holy crap!
are we gonna ignore the fact that it was a BEAUTIFUL evening
Was in the morning poor cops hadn’t even got in the daily AM poop 💩
Sure was
Two things verify the TOD
The clock on both Patrol vehicle cams
When he takes the right turn onto Zero St (SH255) he advises his heading as East and you see the Horizon and Sunrise.
Appreciate the little things I always say
@@stunna4vegas371 im sure they did when he was in the air
"That little red button? Don't EVER touch that little red button." -Agent K
Hey slick: remember that red button i told you never to push ?
Agent J: yeah
Agent k: push it, and before you do...put your seat belt on
I don’t understand why he was not pitted off the highway at 85 mph while still out in the countryside.
PIT at 109mph? The officer was wreckless. I hope he has nightmares about this the rest of his life.
"Dispatch, we have liftoff."
Now THAT is funny!
Oh sheet 😂😂
That's Dukes of Hazzard shit right there!!! That looked like Rosco Pee Coaltrane jumping thare!!!
Ten Four, hillbilly buddy! 😂
@Christopher Cravens - yeah 2-3 idiot Moe_RONS 👮🏻♂️ 👮🏾 👮🏽♂️ DRAW 🔫 on a guy with a 3-wheeled RAM truck - WTF they think he’s gonna come bouncing outta that cab wit TWO .45’S blazing? 🤷🏼♂️
Dispatch: go ahead and take him out
2 tenths of a second later: This is ground control to major Tom...
Thanks for the laugh.
😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️
WTH was that officer thinking?
Name checks out.
LMAO
Every time I watch these videos, I hope the Trooper is not hurt or killed. I don't think about the person they're chasing. And, maybe that's a character flaw. But, these people who are running put everyone in danger. I'm sure PIT maneuvers are controversial among some. But, Arkansas has some of the finest law enforcement officers in the country. Trooper Ellis put his life in danger to stop Battenfield. Tragically, his actions ended his life. I hope Trooper Ellis has/will fully recovered. Thank you from a Marylander, for protecting us all.
1.21 Jiggawatts!!! 109 miles per hour, pit maneuver. Great Scott!!
