Debate: The Fiscal Response to Covid: Successes, Missteps, and the Best Path Forward

How should we understand the fiscal response to the pandemic thus far? Is mounting national debt a concern? What steps should government take now to set America up for a healthy economic recovery, and what will that economic recovery require?
Hosted by our chapters at Michigan Ross and Wash U Olin, the Adam Smith Society hosted a live online debate on these important questions concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. Two leading economists representing the past two administrations’ Councils of Economic Advisers-Betsey Stevenson and Casey B. Mulligan-discussed the stimulus, economic recovery, national debt, and more in a conversation moderated by MI senior fellow Allison Schrager.
