    It bothers me that after 8 years of watching RUclips golf help videos I finally understand the entire swing and how to produce lag. This works like a charm and you should get a medal or award for putting this video up!!!

    I highly recommend this swing. I'm smoking the ball. Got me out of a too steep golf swing. Flattened my swing. No more over the top.

    The baseball swing at address has made me a different player. I feel my body rotating the way it should and getting much better distance now. It is also helping me crush my fairway wood like never before. I love taking a few baseball swings before letting it rip!

    Great simple to understand video! I’m left-handed, but played right handed my whole life because I started off with my dad‘s clubs when I found them in his garage as a teenager. I always struggled with consistency even though I’m a good athlete. But the baseball swing feels really intuitive and simple to me right handed since the ball is in the air and not on the ground. This drill has helped me a lot and especially helped teach me how to clear the hips because I naturally clear them in the baseball swing. Thanks!!

    Thanks for this very helpful video, Clay.
    After playing 'over-the-top' golf for 40 years, I was just messing around with swinging a golf club like a baseball bat. I noticed that the transition with the baseball swing seemed to make power possible. Similar to the loop in a tennis swing.
    I had always thought of the golf swing in two parts instead of one continuous motion. The exercise with the baseball swing helped me to understand what 'getting into the slot' really means. Everything changed from that point on.

    You transformed my golf game with this amazing exercise. I went from struggling to compress the ball and having a tendency of losing my shots off to the right and topping out at about 250 yrds with driver. (Overthinking entire swing). 10 mins in at the range and I was crushing awesome draws. Get my hands in a slightly lower slot smooth through the golf ball like i would swing at an outside fastball driving it to right field and rotating lead hand's knuckles down and now im having a blast and losing less balls. Shooting consistently in the 80's and i can easily feel it anytime either of my check points are off and i thought i was having fun when i was struggling to break 95 lol.

    It really helps to see the golf swing performed standing straight. I can see perfectly the moves made to get into the slot with lag. I think maybe people should learn these moves first and when they can do them , THEN bend forward at the waist into the correct posture. What people think they can see is often an illusion caused by the forward bend at the waist. Good job Clay.

    One key difference with golf and other sports is that in golf you start in the down position and worry about the backswing form etc. For ex. in baseball if you were thinking about sequencing or hitting an inside pitch, an outside pitch, a high 95 mph fastball, a low pitch, a slow changeup, or punching the ball to right field, you would always start with the bat up and then figure out a way to hit the ball. If you know you don't want to come over the top and hit a glancing slice in golf, if you just start with the club where it would be at the top and then feel how do I have to swing the club from here you wont lunge over the top. So if you just get to a decent top position then try to figure out how do I swing thru from here, your body can figure out how to naturally swing thru. This can even work if you want to hit an extra big drive and you normally only swing back 3/4 of the way. Instead of thinking how do I tork back and swing back all the way past parallel, Just start there with the club at the top past parallel ( while keeping decent posture and width) then just feel how do I swing thru from here and hit the ball solid.

    For me this works really well by swing one baseball swing and then tilting for one golf swing over and over repeatedly. But it needs hundreds of repetitions to bed in properly.

    Great video and very helpful comparison to the baseball swing. One question - is it possible to hit a golf ball consistently starting with the club at the top of the backswing (similar to the start of the baseball swing)?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  6 лет назад

      Hi Gary, I'm sure it is possible but I feel it would be much more difficult. Grounding the club gives you a sense of where the ground is and where the ball is. It also allows you to more easily generate lag in the downswing because of the momentum of the club head in the backswing. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

    Thanks for a great video. I fully understand the theory, I can shallow the club, I am not sliding left, the swing plane is from the inside but the ball goes low and left and hooking. I have tried to not turn the club face closed but it makes no difference. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

    For me the most important lesson is that I need to rotate my left upper arm in relation to my body. That is pretty automatic in the base ball swing.

    The right forearm and elbow feel kind of in the way in the downswing is that right? The feel kind of holding of the club

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  6 лет назад

      Hi, if you're feeling really crowded in the downswing then it's likely that your hips are moving toward the ball in the downswing. It's also possible that you're over rotating your hips and you're getting stuck in the downswing. It's really hard to say without seeing your swing. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

    A bit of an oversimplification. There are alot of things someone can take away from the more natural swinging of a baseball bat, but baseball players attempting to golf are almost always very over the top due to the right elbow staying up. When that right elbow "dips" down in a baseball swing that is no bueno but seems to be an essential part of shallowing the club in a golf swing.

    • @DC-by8vl

      Exactly. I've never understood these drills, they seem completely pointless. The only way to swing the golf club like a baseball bast is to stand way back from the ball, the opposite to the pros

    Then why don't you just teach the baseball swing! Everyone can do it and NOBODY can do a "golf" swing. There is a PGA 75 year old Pro in Florida that's been teaching the baseball swing and won 37 amatuer tournaments. He even gives golf lessons to professional baseball players.

  • @BB-fo5mr

    The common fallacy is that the baseball swing is similar to a golf swing. Yeah, you hold something in you hands and swing it. After that, there’s not much similarity with hand to clubface relativity, release, hand/wrist/forearm power sources etc.
    There is a reason he can’t even hit the baseball in the beginning when he is trying to swing a baseball bat like a golf club. Stop using this parallel- you are screwing up the perception of what happens with the club.
