Lag instruction at end of this video will change your life. I use to be exhausted hitting a bucket of balls. Now, I am like a young buck. It is amazing I get no women with my new lag game. Added almost 5 or 6 yards per iron with less effort. Thanks Clay!
Excellent - thank you. Mentioned about 2:35 into the video, I need to try the backswing thought of "moving my right knee down and out to 1:30" (on the imaginary clock). Normally, I bring it " in" too fast/early.
That is a wild pressure figure example. Very interesting depiction of the pressures you are putting out... best instructor ever.
I appreciate that!
this is the Golf Swing in a Nutshell ❤️💥
great job Clay ....I was a Pro Caddie for a Long time and This is the Best Tip Ever🎤
a lot of people want to Complicate the Golf Swing to the point where they can’t Play the game and enjoy it to the Max 🤷🏼♂️
Thanks 👍
OMG! Coach Clay Thank You for teaching me this I like my golf shots alot than the past months and I feel like my swing is like Dustin Johnson thanks also for the swing and hips methods It really improve my swing.I expect more videos from you that will help us.
Hi Gwen
Thank you for your comment and thank you for letting us know how you're doing. We're glad you've had some progress in your game. Keep up the good work!
Really appreciate all these videos Clay, really hope you know how much you've refined my swing!
Glad to help
The single best clinical instruction video I have seen. Brilliant.
Thanks Alan!
Nice instructions Clay! Always appreciated. I do try to maintain a center of gravity over my spine as I move back. I think I’m getting a full turn, but I’ve found that helps me when I’m ready to shift my weight forward. I’m not reverse pivoting at all but wonder, without seeing my swing lol, if I could be sacrificing power?
nice video clay, im working on weight shift

Great video. You and Shawn clement are the best.
Thanks 👍
I feel like this is the root of my problems right now, another great vid. Thanks.
Happy to help!
Thank you this is exactly what I’ve been need
My pleasure!
Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard I’m having trouble keeping the ball down low when I’m in the rough
Best tip I've ever heard. Thanks so much
Thank you for making this video.
My pleasure!
At the 4 minute Mark your hands are parallel and you describe the weight shifting forward. How do you keep your arms and the club moving up when the body shift is forward
Keep turning the shoulders. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor
This was a CRUCIAL missing link in Rotary Swing. Just messed around in the back yard and the specifics about1:30 and 10:30 are paramount. Also, the fact that it happens so early means I can "get it over with" which cleans up the swing invaluably. WOW. I'm going to go break my record. Will follow up soon.
Hey Jarrett, thanks for commenting. Looking forward to hearing your results. Talk to you soon. ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Excellent video Clay. Your detail about the proper weight shift sequence is very helpful. One question, at the start of the downswing, should the right foot initially turn clockwise to cause the hips to move to the left?
Hi Sunil, to start the downswing there will be a little push off from the trail side and then you want to get the lower body opening up. It sounds like you're on the right track. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
OMG.my iron shot smashing the ball!
very very good explanation!!!i am a hcp 5.5 player and my weight is always on the left side.i am not very flexible too. so my problem is that i cant turn.
my question is now: is it ok when i shift the weight one the right side that my left heel is comin off the ground a little bit??
thx 4 your help ;)
Awesome vid!!! I guess the animation was a driver? Would be interesting to se with and iron also.
Thanks! Yes, it's the same with an iron.
great video, 1 question, on initial move of backswing, is weight on inside or outside of right foot? no one seems to specifically address. thx
Inside. If it's on the outside then it likely means you're sliding you're hips. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf very much appreciated your kind reply, but how? do u have a link specifically addressing? reason i ask, on (my) backswing, the natural move is to shift weight onto the outside - very awkward if try to shift, such that weight is properly transferred to the INSIDE. no one else seems to address this issue, but u. obviously the pros do this, as well as keeping their head BEHIND ball at impact & thru. tournament camera placement always from behind, not face-on which makes it difficult to focus on their moves. thanks again, u guys are great!
Great video clay. Waiting for my other subscription to finish before joining your site. Thanks again for a great video.
So u press on that left toe on the downswing ?
Alright Dude, I joined your site. If I dont get an ace in the next three months it is your fault!
Haha...good luck!
My golf has been like a house of cards for 16 years. Actually stopped for 10 years because I just could not get it. Complete breakdowns to the point of shanks on a regular basis. Tried every fix and drill in the book. I shifted my weight a bit, but was always swaying to achieve that and never had consistent good rotation (and ball contact). What seems to work is left and right foot pressure working together for rotation and loading right leg. Lots of info on (the importance of) loading that leg, but not one explaining exactly how. After peeling the onion on all my swing errors it looks like this is the mother of all my errors. I am positive again! Tried yesterday, some balls in the woods as usual, but only 1 complete mishit. Can I finally start to play golf.....?
Great advice. Does ur right foot come up before impact?
Thanks! Yes, it usually does
Please analyze brysons swing from last weekend. Would love to know your thoughts on how that dude swings so hard
Thanks for the feedback. We haven't done this in quite awhile. They don't get a lot of views. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great video. Push the dang like button people.
Thanks!
Should I alter this technique for more consistent fades and draws (I can do both, but greater consistency would be nice)? If so, how?
Do you do golf lessons in person?
Hey, thanks for the interest but Clay doesn't offer private lessons. He focuses all his time on making videos and running the business. This allows him to help as many people as possible. Robin, our Director of Instruction, does private lessons in the Orlando, FL area. If interested then follow this link: topspeedgolf.com/in-person-lessons-with-robin-rosado/. Play well! On the backswing when applying pressure with the right foot, what leg muscle in the right leg is most activated? The right quad?
Hi First name, you're exactly right. It would be the quad. I would throw the glute in there too even thought it may not necessarily be a leg muscle. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
coach ...should I attempt a "flash" pressure shift to the ball of my left foot in the bump left? ....and immediately thereafter shift to the left heel in the downswing ? ...also, why do many Pro's stay on the ball of the left foot well-into the follow thru ? ...is this technique only for world class players and we mere mortals are better off with stock mechanics ?
Hi, that sounds like it will work fine. You really want to drive that lead heel into the ground to get your body opening up to the ball. You see pros up on the balls of their feet because they are generating so much force that it actually pulls their body up off the ground. You usually only see this with the driver as they are trying to generate a lot of speed. It is a more advanced technique but that doesn't mean it isn't achievable by us mere mortals :-) It just takes some practice. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Good video as always. This video, however, is mostly pertinent to a driver....for who could hit an iron off the turf with one's head going backwards so much into impact.?
The graphics are great, but I would suggest different colors for the arrows....so one can know that the right foot pressure is one color, left foot pressure another, etc...so when the angles change you can keep track of the arrows...all black seems to be tough to be detected as the angles change.
Dont get me wrong....GREAT GREAT video.....thanks

Clay, does the head stay behind the ball on the downswing at impact or ahead of the ball?
Hi Robert, your head will be behind the ball with most clubs. It might be a little more on top of the ball with a wedge. It will be more behind the ball with the driver. Here is a great drill from the website to help with this: topspeedgolf.com/topic/athletic-golf-swing-nose-behind-the-line/. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
I think having square shoulders is something people don't think about much. Can you do a video about it or if you already have, send me a link? Thanks
RBL Rickster
Hi Clay, great video and illustration. I know you also coach tennis and I find the source for power for the two sports quite alike. Will you agree the weight shift and body rotation in golf is very similar to a single-handed backhand in tennis? As I used to have a bit more body rotation during downswing that promotes a few degrees of out-to-in clubpath, I figure if I can feel a more static/square upper body through the impact just like single-handed backhand, that would help? Appreciate your thoughts!
Hi, I answered your comment of the same question on the "How to Use the Hips in the Golf Swing | Crazy Detail" video. Play well ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor
Shit I've been playing for over 10 years with all my weight on my right side until impact, is that why I cant break 85 mph swing speed?
Hi Boon, it's hard to say without seeing your swing but I'm sure that's a big part of it. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf I gained 5-6 mph by shifting my weight earlier, almost can do 90 mph now, but I was hoping for like 10 mph gain
Nice video, but you inverted 3 and 9 o’ clock ( mirror camera effect...)
Thanks Andre for the feedback. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
I feel if I shift my weight back to early I reverse tilt
Is this what Ben Hogan meant when he said the secret is in the dirt?
the Cutty mn
You just knew there was no any action about weight shift, but still managed to comply with the old misleading concept.
I suggest you to be yourself and explain what exactly happened on the left side at the beginning of downswing.
ive been hearing this same inane swing advice for 30 years,, did not hear about where the weight is placed on the right foot,,, geezzzzz yea we know that.he like so many other teachers of golf say the same shit the same way since Harvey Penick,,, sorry i guess i'm a bit jaded after 30 years of this crap
This does not help if you dont give us drills to do
Flat hips ... garbage!
