I love James Woods as Haydes. He just owns this whole sleazy car salesman personality so well. Plus he gets his brutal comeuppance in the end; being trapped forever in a river of agony & death.
The moments when Phil chases the nymphs and flirts with Meg and Aphrodite actually correspond the Greek mythology, for satires were usually described as very cheeky and fickle (by the way, Pan's flute as a whistle is cool, as for me)

In order to properly kill a Hydra you have to destroy its heart. If you cut off any of its heads it will just grow it back with 2 more in it's place. Also be mindful, some Hydras have *extremely* poisonous blood. Hercules idea to use an avalanche to kill it was clever as it would have crushed everything. Including the beasts heart. Also that Hydra gave me horrid nightmares as a kid and as an adult I still visible shrink anytime I see it on screen. It just makes my brain yell *"NOPE!!"*

I always thought it was sleeping beauty aka aurora’s
Although I think technically the one in the into to Disney movies is Cinderella's, both Cinderella and Aurora's castles were based on the real life Bavarian castle of King Ludwig II called Neuschwanstein Castle 🏰
The castle at Disney World (Florida) and in the logo are Cinderella’s but the castle in Disneyland (California) is Aurora’s. And I totally agree with the previous comment, Ever After is such a good adaptation. Still my fave!
Couple of Meg facts for you:
The voice actress, Susan Egan, was the first to play Belle in the stage musical of Beauty and the Beast on Broadway.
Her design is based around ancient Greek artifacts and architecture. Her face, chest and hips are the shapes of traditional vases, and her torso and skirt are columns.
(Ngl, felt a little creepy dissecting her like that, but it's true!)
Could you please watch Atlantis: The lost empire? It's my all time favorite Disney film and the art style and soundtrack in it are absolutely incredible! You won't be disappointed 🥺
Not even 30 seconds in and when this dude mentioned the VHS I feel just aged 10 years (and I’m not even 20 yet). That was the sh!t to watch movies on back in the day
YES RIGHT?! Great times
Back in the 90s my fam had all the VHS 😂
me, almost 30, with a cabinet full of now unused VHSes: [sweats loudly]
Fellow 90's kid here. Man, I still have a few of my childhood vhs tapes. Lost the rest during a move I was very sad, but hoped they found a good home. I watched the crap out of Disney and Shirley temple movies. XD
for real!!
Would your parents like also record movies from tv or tv shows on them for you?😂😍 got fuckin nostalgic when he mentioned vhs
"Who lives in that castle?" It's Cinderella's Castle. There is a room you can rent in it.
Welchy: He's a good-looking ginger.
Me, who is ginger: So there is hope after all...
Yeah, you seem pretty good looking too !
I second this 😂
Gingers are hot!!! I have an issue with blonds though. Never found that many hot
Fun fact: (though correct me if I'm wrong) Disney has actual dancers preform Zero to Hero in costume and everything, that's why the animation feels so lively. You can find it by looking up 'Hercules: Zero to Hero side by side by Oh My Disney'.
0:40 It's Cinderella's Castle, so Cinderella and Prince Charming live there in animation land. In the real world, the one built in Disney world works as a very expensive hotel for people visiting the park. Also totally here for your love of Meg. she's one of the few canonically older leading lady love interest in Disney. She's significantly older at 28, Herc is canonically 18/19
Hold up! She's really that much older than him??
@@silverstarlightproductions1292 yep. Some sources say late 20s. Some say 28 exactly. Either way herc and her have one of the bigger age gaps of the Disney couples
You’re the first person (even among gen z content creators) I’ve heard explain what VHS is instead of making fun of it! I don’t know why I’m so thankful for that, especially since my sis and I used to watch our favorite movies on VHS.
His love for the Muses is everything
The three-headed dog of Hades is Cerberus (Spot)
Meg was my bi awakening and it took me another 5 years after watching the movie for the first time to even realize that that's what I was feeling
1:00 "Dude, that is the fanciest dinner plate I've ever seen."
Me: "Clearly, you never got the McDonald's Hercules plates when this came out."
I won't say I'm in love is one of the best Disney songs ever imo it's SO GOOOODDD
OK, we can all agree Meg is fire but I think Welchy has really cracked from all this time on Lockdown 🤣
Anyway, great reaction as usual! Brightened up my day!
Yeah you’re probably right 😂
Welchy: "Oh, that thing is in Kingdom Hearts!"
Me: 16 years later and I can still hear Phil yelling, *GET UP ON THE HYDRA'S BACK!*
Oh yeah, that was another thing that bothered me about this movie. THE. FLIPPING. HYDRA!!!!!!!! Its when you cut off one head, two more grow back. Not cut off one head, and three more grow back. Gods, I know the original material is darker than Hades' armpit, but they couldn't even consult it to see if they were even in the ballpark?
@@elanakroll2102 I don't think they cared. They used his Roman name, instead of his Greek name, Heracles.
@@anib8863 i know. But thats small fry compared to the rest of the circus Disney calls Hercules
GET UP ON THE HYDRA'S BACK!
It is criminal that I had to scroll down this far to find this comment.
Anyway: GET UP ON THE HYDRAS BACK!!
Phil: The big olive
Phil: If you can make it here you can make it anywhere
Welchy: ... so it's LA
You need to see Disney’s The Great Mouse Detective!
It’s the movie that saved Disney animated films after one of their biggest bombs (The Black Cauldron), and made films like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin possible!
😎
I love James Woods as Haydes. He just owns this whole sleazy car salesman personality so well. Plus he gets his brutal comeuppance in the end; being trapped forever in a river of agony & death.
*hades
The moments when Phil chases the nymphs and flirts with Meg and Aphrodite actually correspond the Greek mythology, for satires were usually described as very cheeky and fickle (by the way, Pan's flute as a whistle is cool, as for me)
This is my cousin's favorite movie, and everytime I see it I think of him. He's autistic, and I'm pretty sure his favorite line from the movie is when the titans are marching toward Olympus, saying they'll freeze Zeus and all that.
Not sure why, but he always chants it when we watch Hercules together. 😂
But thank you for posting this reaction, you have made my day. ❤
I'm glad someone else bops as hard as I do to the muses
An article 10 years ago: "The main production designier for Hercules was acclaimed political cartoonist Gerald Scarfe."
Me: "Gerald Scarfe? As in 'Pink Floyd The Wall' Gerald Scarfe?! THAT'S TOTALLY...
* *remembers the Hydra, Cerberus, and the Titans* *
...his style all right. Yup, makes perfect sense."
If you want to learn about Greek mythology I highly recommend Mythos by Stephen Fry. Specifically the audiobook since he reads it himself and the comedic timing and suave sarcasm are perfect. 👌
The lead muse singer (Calliope) is Lillias White. An amazing Broadway actress. Look up her version of "Don't Rain on my Parade" from "Funny Girl."
Yay! Hercules is part of my top three Disney favorites. Agreed Meg is the best character.
15:49 Literally my reaction to every single thing Megara does in this movie
20:02
Did you see how fast his face turned red when he had a realization? I don't know why, but that kind of human characteristic seems to amaze me. Kinda cute how humans change color when we feel strong emotions like sadness, laughter, anger and embarasment. But never have I thought that we change color when we get surprised or have a shocking realization. That's how you know that Welchys reactions are authentic.
Wow what a find! 😳 I knew I go red sometimes when I’m flustered but that was crazy! Making me want to see if I do that in every video now 😂 thank you so much for the support
I mean it depends how prone you are to flushing anyway, and dark your face is and how easy it is to see. But yeah
I just rewatched this yesterday and I just could not stop smiling this movie is just so wholesome and fun
Meg is one of my favorite Disney girls together with Mulan, Pocahontas and Jane from Tarzan. By the way you should make a reaction video to Pocahontas, I know it's historically VERY inaccurate but I still love it! Also if you want more Greek mythology inspired stuff I can recommend Troy (2004). I would love to see a reaction from you to that as well! Love your videos!
The Hercules movie starring The Rock is actually fairly accurate to the story, just gives it a mortal twist
My favourite type of egg? One baked into a cake or tart! That's the only type I'll eat!
Sunny side-up is my favorite, but I usually end up soft-boiling them for convenience. I can literally eat 4 eggs and rice for any meal of the day and be jolly. lol As historically inaccurate as the movie is, I absolutely love it. Just so entertaining and heart-warming.
My favorite quote: "Father, this is the moment I've always dreamed of. But... A life without Meg, even an immortal life, would be empty."
Nope, Hades said "Powerful little tyke." XD
Yup, that's Scar. As Zazu once said, "He'd make a very handsome throw-rug."
Is it strange I find his accent very soothing? Like...water flowing or something. It smoothed out the harsh edges American English tends to have. Pretty.
Alternate title: Welchy simping over Meg for 23 minutes
HONESTLY lmao his reactions killed me
Part of the group that feels old when explaining VHS tapes😂
Hades: Eugh... powerful... little tyke.
Welchy: Did you just call him a dick?!
god I WISH Disney would've let him.
“Imagine stopping Mother Nature”
The 7 from heroes of Olympus “hold my beer”😂😂
Remember in The Lion King when zazu said to mufasa that scar would make a very handsome throw rug and just think of it every time he gets dirty you can take him out and beat him
0.57 "it's like choir , yet awesome" is basically the definition of Gospel Music.
Fun fact: The Spice Girls were proposed to be the 5 muses, but they declined the offer
Disney has so many princesses
So many queens
But meg,
Meg is a Disney Goddess
I guess Zazu was right. Scar does make a "very handsome throw rug."
no but when she stuck out her leg like that... I FEEL YA BRO
8:20 "where did the muscles came from?" Phil invented CrossFit right there
Glad you loved the movie man! Herc's world is the funnest rendition of Greek mythology I've ever experienced. There's actually an old animated Disney series based on this movie. Where Herc is a teenager in high school but he still fights mythological beings like in the movie. I grew up with it and it was pretty fun, ngl.
Meg reminds me of Shego from Kim Possible tbh - they're both attractive, badass and sarcastic asf.
Pain & Panic also remind me of Cosmo & Wanda from Fairly Odd Parents when they shapeshift lol 2:42 15:33
In Greek mythology, Héra is Zeus' wife but also his sister (and not Hercules' mother).
Zeus is married to Héra but he also have a lot of mistresses which with he had a lot of children (the majority are others Gods of the Olympus). Oh, and the best for the end : Hades is his brother
This is actually the first time I've watched this in English since I'm so used to watching it in greek but this one was also really good
8:20 I swear, when I heard "I need some fellow tities in my life, both types of them" I laughed so hard
I would love to see Disney remake this film in their modern animation style.
Encanto already showed how amazing it would look when we saw a Hercules and Cerberus in Louisa's song 'Surface Pressure'.
To be honest I watched Home on the range when I was very little so I know nothing about until I watched it the 2nd time
1:59 he actually called him 'little tyke'
I would love to see more animated films about myths and magic lol (especially in an animation style like Encanto, Moana, Frozen II, Onwards, HTTYD 2&3, etc).
There are so many cool mythology/ magical creatures and powers that would look *amazing* in that style of animation lol.
This is one of my favorite Disney movies EVER!!!!!!!!! I know most of the lines and songs and the whole time watching this I was just smiling and laughing! Also yea, Meg is hot af
The opening castle used to be Sleeping Beauty’s castle. But sometime in the in the 1970/80s it was switched to Cinderella’s castle.
Zeus' wife is Hera. Zeus, Hades and Poseidon are brothers. I love Greek mythology!
You forget to say that Hera is Zeus' sister too and the titans (Chronos ans Rhéa) are their parents
well... Hera is their sister too, don't forget that. :P
@@paulinecharlat2982 oh the having children with your siblings doesn't just feature Zeus/Hera and Kronos/Rhea. It even goes back another generation with Ouranos/Gaea, the parents of the titans. Not to mention that Poseidon slept with his sister Demeter as a horse. Well, slept with isn't the right term, its much more forceful and I would probably get reported for spelling it so I'll give you a hint: has 4 letters, starts with r
@@elanakroll2102 Yeah, Greek mythology is weird
You should definitely watch and react to Atlantis, it was one of my ABSOLUTE favourites growing up
Funny how Hades in the myths is actually the better god of his brothers XD
One of my favorites. Looove Hades so much lol
Apart from The Emperor's New Groove this is my favourite film
Hey from the states! This is one of my favorite movies. Btw I'm in love with y'all's accent! I wish I had an accent like that lol
Fun fact: my favorite Greek god is Hades. My favorite myth has always been of him and Persephone
The singing ladies on the pot stole the show for me XD They're halarious lol
This will always be one of my favorite Disney movies. All the characters are great and Hades is the best villain.
Even if it's not at all accurate to myth, it's just an awesome, fun movie
Him, about the titans: "They seem a bit op."
The Rock Titan, in Kingdom Hearts' Hades Cup: One of the easiest bosses in the whole franchise.
The Disney castle is Cinderella’s castle! Lol also this is probably my favorite Disney movie, I definitely wore out my VHS 😂
Decided to search up the Muses. 4 of them were Broadway singers and the 5th is an R&B/jazz/soul blues who's been releasing music all the way from the 80s to most recent album in 2022
Your love for the muses is so deserving lol they are the mvp's of this movie imo
One of my fav Disney movies! So underrated
this movie is fun. great reaction as usual.
Knowing that you are also a Kingdom Hearts fan made you even more likeable!
And yes... Meg is one of the best women in the Disney Movies.
Loved your reaction!
The only thing great about this movie is hades and meg. Everyone else can just go 😂
Meg is one of my favorite characters ever in Disney. i love her so much, i aspire to be that petty LOL. also this movie got me into researching mythology xD it's so fascinating. Greek and Norse mythology is just *chefs kiss*
