The first thing i thought when you found the live end for the security light was i bet thats off the key switch! I think i went past Artisan Electrics HQ today unless you were on a job.
Do the lights get triggered by plant leaves and branches moving in wind? I want to buy a Steinel light but have lots of plants and trees near the area where I want to install the lights.
6:40 Steinel: German electric company how start first with infrared walking switches in the 1980's. The model *Steinel Sensor Strahler XLED Home 2 XL* have 1608 lm at 20 Watt (80,4 lm/W) with an online shop price of 129 €. The market price is around 76 € / ~67 £. The company give five years guarantee. The quality in the history was very good, I not reinstall so many new LED products of them, then the old products work so long times without problems. I self like to install infrared switches lamps behind a normal switch inside. So the normal owner can easy switch off for the times where it is not needed or after a crash (falling trees, soccer balls, aso.). In Germany or Thailand we use RCBO/ELCB 16 A and 1.5 qmm copper cable (230 V * 16 A = 3.680 VA / 3.500 W) from CU to product normally.
So would I be right in thinking that in an “emergency” the EMG lights would illuminate the escape route but once outside you’d potentially be in darkness as the outdoor light wouldn’t have power? You may be correct on the electrical side but a fire risk assessment might throw up the need for additional lighting measures. Just a thought. Love your videos.
Did you not think to check the fp at light switch for power first. I always volt stick any cable I find like that especially if I hadn't wired in first place
Did an ecr on a church hall. The Viccar had done the electrical installation himself and it was madness. If he just didn’t know it was wrong that’s one thing I suppose but if he did it to save money it was a serious fail. Needed a complete rewire. Only came to light because a private company rented part of it on a regular basis and an ecr was required by their insurance company. Wasn’t just not to regs it was actually dangerous. Excellent videos thanks.
Armin Ehrbar its still £70 for an outside light plus labour cost, in this current climate were in and heading towards, especially the domestic work, you try flogging these!. I would be stunned if you could do any when people will be undercutting everyone.
I love the Steinel light but they are a bit expensive, especially if you want two like me! Are there any other that you can recommend because everything else I’ve looked at seems to be made in China and I don’t what any of that.. one video I watched and the guy Took it to bits and the earth want connected!! 🤨
Entertaining video 🧐 but what a nightmare to problem solve/trace looks like one of them jobs where when you get home you open a bottle of red and breathe a sigh of relief!
Microwave sensors work through smoke - unlike PIR sensors. Usually find them in emergency lights with motion detection. They are better than unmaintained lights that only turn on when the power is cut off.
Steinel really are the best for security lighting. Well worth the money. Anyone fitting the chinese 10W floods with the PIR underneath are going to be returning on them within 2 years. Not worth buying cheap. As the saying goes, buy cheap buy twice
Great job getting there. Like the outside led light with the extra switch live terminal. Most of them come pre wired with live and neutral only .. I shall check if any wholesalers stock them in my area 👍
Most security lights don't need switch live terminal or "bypass", they have a neat gimmick by which you flick the main switch Off-On in the span of 1.5s ( and other different short times) and they will stay on for 6,8,10...forever hours, but not all, most do though, hope this helps.
Another great video and detective work. You doing the fire alarm interested to see what state that's in. Guessing it's not working anyway as the call points have been activated. Looking forward for the next video.
I’m a little bit disappointed, don’t get me wrong your a fantastic electrician and I love the videos you upload on here, however I was shocked at the end of the video when I was expecting to hear that uplifting Spanish jazz that you normally play. Apart from that, thank you for another great video.
niiiccceee! 😊 be nice to find where that extra cable goes! maybe they were going to have something fitted in there thats actually in place but the wires are behind the wall boards perhaps? i think you might have something with the drop down projector screen... or what about a wall/ceiling mounted projector? they (the scout leaders) probably will know, worth asking them? your doing bril (as per usual 😊) undoing other peoples screwups... shame you didnt get to do the job first then it would have been better 😊 stay safe and well 😊
I hate installations where they individually place emergency key switches in each room which only serves that area. Why is it almost never done on a bank next to the Cu so it’s a one time operation and walk around with the circuit put into emergency mode?. So much easier to monitor emergency lighting that way. Saves all the mess like that behind the switch grids to.
1600 lumens for a security light? I'm all for LEDs (every lamp in my home is LED) but that's a lot less than a 150w halogen floodlight (I used to have a 500w for the 100ft garden but neighbours complained it was too bright) which gives approx 10x the illumination.
Please make a 20 sec. longer video so that the adventising of YT not kill your video. I can not follow the last 20 sec. with the picture-in-picture ad. Some YT video maker use a stop picture or a logo for that.
Jordon, I am looking at trying to supply Uk materials where possible, cu’s etc. Was doing fuse box but they are made in China. Proteus is about the only one I know. What do u think, maybe a RUclips video.
Done some market telephone research this morning, spoke to proteus and the enclosures are Uk made, but the breakers are Turkey! Mite be better of with China on that one. British general, contactum, Wylex and Schneider are made in China on everything. At least with Hager they make the enclosures in the Uk and breakers in France. Only one I have spoken to today which is totally manufactured in the Uk is M2. Never fitted a M2, can anyone rate them. What forums do you go on Jordan. It might help me to discuss this further.
An unswitched fused connection unit might have been a better option for the outside light as you could isolate and lock-off for any maintenance or replacement in the furture.
@@tomorichard With many FCUs you should be able to put a padlock through the fuse carrier. There's also an odd plastic thing from Martindale which gets jammed under the plate screws and can be padlocked shut.
How odd is it that the floodlight is sold with precisely 1608lm; same as those 806lm lamps, I never understood why they didn't just round it. My car doesn't say 1686cc on the back of it!

Yes you can, I got mine with them
Excellent. An grown up facial expression of confident confusion has befelled your face.
I'll be very interested to see which socket floor box you choose. Great vid as always Jordan.
Coming soon!

😂
great video - I'd love a picture of the wiring on the Steinel

Not quite i live in swavesey but i used to work for the commercial electrical firm just around the corner from you
Do you know is the steinel has a manual override feature ?

They are very persistant. Asks to be friends on quite a few channels.
Wonder how long it'll be before they need money for emergency medical bills.

Mr Beast was the last one 😂
Does the Steinel have a function where it only activates to motion between sunset and sunrise? Thanks
Hi Jordan what fixings do you typically use for ceiling mounted light fixtures? The helical plasterboard screws I guess?
Yeah I just use those normal plasterboard fixings, the metal ones not the plastic ones tho.

Another good video Jordan.
I would be pulling up the last contractor on the job and let him know the faults you found.
No idea who it was...
This job on price Jordan?
It took longer than I expected obviously due to all the extra problems discovered along the way but I honored my original quote anyway as I always do.
Like the look of those PIR floods, might have to change my own ones out now!
They are really nice
@@artisanelectrics At over £110 each, they should be GOOD!!!
£85 for an outside light !, id be expecting it to mount and wire itself for that price 😂
I forgot to show that part! Brilliant things though. Pay for themselves in energy savings and lack of maintainance.
Market price near 70 £. Do you should learn to check the prices befor do you go shopping.

Kevin yeah it might be quality but when the competition will be installing outside lights for a quarter of the price youll have no work
Kevin yes i totally agree, but if your quoting an outside job and your materials start at £70 you’ll never get no work (domestically).

You will see in the next video!
Oo okay! Taking it then the next ones about the fire system?
Oh boy 3 minutes to have a dump, that's not cricket.lol

projector screen cable :-) enjoying the videos

What is a microwave sensor? It's doppler radar. Pretty simple technology really, and well suited to ceiling mounted applications.
Nice

Yeah I traced it, it goes up to the ceiling like I suspected for a wall mounted projector screen if needed, just a loose cable up there.
Thanks for watching and supporting me!

I can't believe how bad that place is! It absolutely beggars belief that someone has left it in that state - they surely can't have been a spark?
