Basic stuff like not putting their outside connections in the correctly IP rated box....looks like one of the dads said they 'knew a bit about electrics' and went to town.

      Artisan Electrics .....No, but EICR’s are carried out in a way that you should consider the British standard the installation was installed to, and also British standards that are current on the day of inspection. Your opinion doesn’t actually come into it. Your judgement on whether the installation conforms to the standard it was installed to, and if it departs from today’s standards is what should be recorded, and graded.
      A plastic consumer unit in a commercial building, installed to the 17th edition is not even worth a mention. Even if it was in a school filled with children.......regardless of whether you personally think that is right or not.

      As for the board being metal, I've worked on construction for the last 15 years (schools, hospitals stadiums etc) and I have never seen anything other than metal boards, the 18th edition says that domestic are to be metal, so I would also assume that the board in this video should be metal.

  • @simonabbott7323

      You're technically correct. I'd be more interested in reg 511 - you use a recycled consumer unit then you've not a clue what it's supply chain looks like and have no manufacturers notes. You can still buy plastic consumer units and there are places [not domestic] where they are very appropriate such as external influences. But this clearly isn't such a board and is best put in a bin.

  • @ishkebab

Every single electrician I've ever had in to do a job has been deficient in some way - not running cable in prescribed notes properly, not providing test results or notifying BC, massively overcharging etc. I'm sure there are good sparks out there but in my experience they're a rare breed.

      Jeffrey Fearn That’s becomes most non domestic installations are polyphase installations which require TPN distribution boards. The crux of the matter is that a plastic Cu/DB is perfectly compliant in an installation other than a dwelling and is not subject to regulation 421.1.201 and should never be subject to an EICR coding or simply replaced on being plastic as the sole reason.

    • @robputt
      @robputt 4 года назад +1

      I am not convinced it was replaced because it's plastic, mostly because its all a bloody mess and poorly installed, if your gonna re-terminate all the circuits and tidy it up why not just replace the entire consumer unit for something that's compliant with current best practice. I am also interested in that Asbestos sticker on the service head. I am guessing the fuse has some asbestos rope or asbestos flash guard? Or is there a larger asbestos problem with service heads? If so will a DNO replace a service head if it's suspected of containing asbestos? Does anyone have a gallery of potentially asbestos-containing service heads? I looked on John Wards website as he has lots of photos of old electrical gear including service heads but no mention of asbestos risk on any of them.

    The route from the floor trap to the apex of the roof could be for signal cable for a ceiling-mounted projector. If so, and budget permits, run as many CAT6 cables as will fit (native HDMI won't travel that far). A switched mains feed for the projector would be a good idea too.

Shiny metal acessories on flush boxes are the fancy option and metalclad surface acessories are the industrial option.

    The first video of yours Jordan that I actually feel is fairly full of rubbish. I completely agree that the electrical system has faults and isn't perfect, but asking a charity group to shell out for a Hager RCBO board? Really? Why? Yes, the board is plastic and not brand new and shiny, but it did have the required protection, speil about not being amendment 3 compliant is rubbish. This video sadly feels like you're taking advantage of the situation because you have very little other work. Some remidials were completely necessary (wiring to the AC Units, for example), maybe even a tidy up of the cabling around the board, but saying things like having the AC controls in a cupboard near the CU is a bodge is utter rubbish.

      @artisanelectrics  4 года назад +1

      The A/C controls being in the cupboard was not the issue, the fact that the cable was not properly installed and single insulated conductors were showing was the issue. Just because they are a charity doesn't mean they don't have much money, and don't want a quality install with quality materials.

      @@artisanelectrics but the more money they spend on things like Electrics for their Hut takes away oppurtunities for young people to try new things. This seems like you've stepped in and they're just now trusting your judgement in terms of needing things like RCBOs etc. Apolgies for being wrong about the issue with the AC controls, the way you said it suggested that just the location was a Bodge. Quality install doesn't mean one of the most expensive boards on the planet with unnecessary RCBOs😂.

    I've just had my house rewired, got the certificate, he hadn't done the gas, nor water bonding but it was marked on the sheet. Didn't do the smoke alarms, no grommets in the top of the consumer unit , no capping over any of the cabled and get this.... he wired up my boiler directly without a fuse just a switch... since he's been back to fix those "issues" my stockets in the loft now don't work anymore. Honestly don't even want to call him back.

Great video by the way and my money is on someone close to the organisation a friend or relative did that, knew they were in to deep, got a load of stuff just about up and running and all the bits and pieces left to get going or put right were to daunting a task and they bailed .

    Jordan. I would sleeve them twin and earth cables which are feeding the condensers with black flexible conduit (kopex) to protect them from UV damage also you can fit glands on the ends which will terminate neatly into a rotary isolator. 👍

    A recycled board and wiring in that state screams more of of "helpful" parent volunteer or good old "DIY enthusiast leader doing a bit of recycling". who perhaps got a bit in over their head, rather than a mysterious vanishing spark. Was the same when i was in scouts. Our old boy leader did most the wiring. Good intentions but usually done with recycled everything and questionable skills

  • @cumberland1234

    I wouldn’t use twin & earth on tray outside - I don’t think twin & earth is UV stabilised. I’d either pull it back inside and use SWA outside on tray or use the twin & earth in conduit/ trunking. Also, as others have said, the fire alarm MCP looks to be triggered - the yellow/black chevron is showing in the window. It should be causing the panel to be in alarm (or alarm & been silenced). If I was a gambling man I’d say it probably isn’t wired in, but if it is then something more troubling has happened. Have a look for Sycall call point on RUclips, it looks to be one of them.

    The Fire Alarm Manual Call Point you showed at around 8.40 minutes seems as if it has been activated but the Fire Alarm Control Panel when you showed it didn’t look as if it was activated. Unless you were obviously testing during your visit.

      The black/yellow chevron is showing in the window of the manual call point. I think it is a Sycall manual call point, there’s videos on RUclips of how to reset them. As it isn’t making the main panel go into alarm / silenced, I smell a rat. Either the MCP hasn’t been wired in or something more sinister has happened.

    Said this on your last video, its easier to do the job properly! And for people saying picking up on the plastic board is picky, its a re-wire, a brand new installation. If you were to go to Wholesaler and order a board it wouod be metal, not plastic. I agree with Jordan that it being plastic is shoddy and the installer is a lazy, useless basta.....

  • @simonruddy8265

  • @NoDissasemble
    @NoDissasemble 4 года назад

    Whilst the plastic CU wouldn't be C coded for an EICR being a non-domestic premises, I do agree with you that a single-phase PME installation being fairly recently put in on a plastic board is a bit crap.
    421.1.201 was brought in for residential because they don't have as stringent requirements for fire safety and fire detection as commercial buildings have under fire safety regs. But the fact it doesn't specifically apply doesn't mean the underlying reason for metal CU's, that is to offer improved containment of fire, isn't relevant.

    This happens all the time, I think that the building trade and all associated trades associated within it ie Plumbers, Electricians etc should be regulated, not under trade associations, who can be easily exploited. Property is so expensive, yet people given a choice will not pay for upkeep, yet will spend a fortune at Tesco, Sainsbury's, Virgin, Sky and such like, have HP on their Range Rover Evoke.. Then never take ownership when it goes wrong... Well done for keeping things good

    For every negative there's a positive, because there are more bodger's than decent people, there's always work to be done. I lay the blame with the governing bodies, they sign them up, they inspect their work and they take the £500 per year in fees.
    Also it's a commercial job so you can fit an insulated board, it's just domestic places where they need to be metal.
