If you guys are wondering how he was playing BioShock infinite on it, there is an app in the play store called Kainy HD, it let's you stream games from your PC to android device
I am a paramedic on an oil rig and I have to sit around alot in case something happens, and this is brilliant for me.Remember the pc gaming part is just in beta right now. No telling what will be able to stream to it once its beta is finished. I've always found myself annoyed at android gaming because touch controls aren't adequate. But this really makes up the difference. If you want it for a tablet, don't get it. If you want it for a versatile mobile gaming system, its the one for you.
My first instinct is no, but I cannot verify. The litmus test for this device is "does your comp run a newer nvidia card, and can it run steam?" Both of those can be yes on a mac, however, that doesn't mean it will work. Best bet would be to contact NVIDIA support on that one.
Someone reply please. :) Should I get this or the PS Vita? I'm really excited for the new Killzone game coming out for the PS Vita, but this thing look freaking awesome too. But the prices contrast sooo much that I don't know if I should get the Shield.
Not really though. Remember that this device uses fans to keep itself cool, to incorporate a fan system into a 7" tablet would ad bulk, as well as making it less comfortable to hold for gaming. On another note, there are a number of NVIDIA tabs on the way with Tegra 4's, might be worth waiting for those if you have your heart set on a tablet.
The thing is, there IS no competitors. Please, tell me of all the other incredibly well built controllers with a screen on top, that can WIRELESSLY stream games from your PC to the device, aswell as having an entire OS of Android on it, with great PPI and viewing angles. Oh yeah, and all that for 299. Please?
Dunno, but seems legit: 11+ hour battery life, outstanding graphics performance, use of ALL android apps (you could get wifi texting and calling) + EMULATORS. It just looks a little clunky, but I bet that controller would feel comfortable after a long gaming session. Also, its only 50$ more than a vita right now.
Although it's great to be natively playing Android games on it, I think the main point of it is pairing with a gaming PC. That is where a lot of the stuff only Nvidia could do comes from.
Two easy questions: Do you have a gaming desktop and does it have a newer NVIDIA card in it? If the answer to either of those is no, you should probably get the Vita. Android offers lots of content, like full games such as Shadowgun and Dead Trigger, as well as emulators, but it's real attraction is streaming, and if you can't do that, might as well get a tablet like the Nexus 7. If you are set on a gaming device, however, the Vita would be the better route.
If only the screen could detach and re-attach like a Windows laptop. Dear Nvidia, feel free to use this idea so when we don't feel like gaming, we could just use the screen!
Rayman Legends, Batman Arkham Origins Black Gate, Dragons Crown, Terraria, Spelunky, Killzone: Mercenary, Walking Dead, Tear Away. They're the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Vita will be as strong as the PSP and combined with its compatibility with PSP and PS1 games through PSN it should be fine. Although I see why you are disappointed. I'm not, however.
If i were to have a gaming pc, i would definitely buy this device. But, as a stand alone portable gaming device, its not worth it due to the lack of games
no point sir the smaller a screen is the less the resolution has to be in order to see any kind of difference.....a 720p image at raw size is the size of a 32 inch TV........less then that you cant see the difference between a 720p and a 1080
just based on specs, shield is the one to get. It's portable, but can easily be used like an ouya if you get a bluetooth controller. The shield outputs 1080p through a mini-hd output, but I've heard it can also do 4k.
Unless you don't have PSN I totally disagree with this point. Vita has content coming on it at roughly the same amount as the 3DS. Plus you have the shiny PS1 and PSP releases which have upgraded visuals. But most of this is only on PSN. So if you buy Vita games in a shop, fair enough. But on PSN there is plenty of content.
Umm, no. The way you can play PC games on a non PC, is to stream them. To play them without streaming, the Shield would either have to be running Windows (and at that size, price point, and battery capabilities, you'd be stuck with an Atom Proc, good luck playing BL) or be running another OS with a Virtual Machine, which would also run hilariously slow, if it's even possible.
Two words: Porcelain Throne. Not because it's the only use, but because it demonstrates the versatility of this device. Living Room? No problem. TV Room? No problem. Bathroom? No problem. If you are honestly willing to haul an entire gaming rig from room to room to play around the house, more power to you, but to suggest that a PC is just as portable as this device (which would allow you to play full, PC games all over) is a joke.
I'm pretty sure we won't. It's too costly to make a proper high budget videogame and it's too risky on a platform where piracy is so rampant. Even the Vita doesn't really have a compelling library of games.
if you have the device modded roms, like touchwiz or sense, then yes. But stock android doesn't really lag if you have jelly bean, and that's what the Shield has. My samsung galaxy s2 used to lag like balls with touchwiz ice cream sandwich, but I switched to a Samsung Galaxy S3 stock android with CyanogenMod10.1, and it is literally smooth as butter. Resource management/task management is perfect.
because I doubt anyone would fucking notice on a 5 inch screen a foot and a half away from your face unless you have eagle vision lol. (it's also better on the battery)
It also does emulators, can you play Pokemon or Sonic on a Vita? Also, Android games like Shadowgun can be just as entertaining as anything on the vita. Also, the Vita has you paying out the ass for storage, which is REQUIRED unlike with the Shield. Also, who says you have to sit near your computer? Why can't I sit on the other side of the house near my router which is hardwired to my desktop?
HOW CAN YOU DISLIKE A VIDEO COMMENTATED BY A PROPHET
2:58, I got chills when i remembered about Emulators on android and the possibilities with this device...
My god... That voice. That smooth, suave, articulated voice.... This guy should do all the reviews from now on.
This guy's dreamy.
Pretty good review. Concise yet informative, unbiased, nice voice.
If you guys are wondering how he was playing BioShock infinite on it, there is an app in the play store called Kainy HD, it let's you stream games from your PC to android device
720?! Why didnt they do full 1080?
So you'll be glad about all the games coming out the end of this year and its features which link in with the PS4?
Wonder how many takes it took to throw back plate on perfectly...

Now I know what kind of voice to portray when reading any post by Sean on the Verge.
Has no lag if you have a dual band router
Looked like it has an HDMI out on the back. Can you playgames and videos on a big screen with an HDMI cable?
My first instinct is no, but I cannot verify. The litmus test for this device is "does your comp run a newer nvidia card, and can it run steam?" Both of those can be yes on a mac, however, that doesn't mean it will work. Best bet would be to contact NVIDIA support on that one.
So glad I subscribed to you guys. Very professional.
I think it would have been better if the screen was detachable, sort of like the transformer pad.
Wait so can you still stream games to play on it if you don't have a GeForce graphics card? I have AMD.
If they'd have gotten it to twist around so you could have the screen down against the control and still be facing upwards then it'd be alright.
this guy should be doing voice overs for documentaries
!??!?! How did you get dead trigger 2???
Also, epic voice, love to see future reviews from this guy!
Can I play games like borderlands but without a conection between the shield and the pc?
The problem is, why would you play a pc game on your handheld console 10 feet away with extra lag when you can play on your PC?
You're right, I mispoke in my previous comment. I could here the fan when I was playing a couple of a games last night.
Most games like Temple Run have horizontal screen support on Windows. NVIDIA chose the wrong OS for a horizontal screen device.
Would have been cool if the screen was somehow detachable
I don't game PC, but I really really really love gaming on Android. BUT, should I get this or the new Nexus 7?
Someone reply please. :)
Should I get this or the PS Vita? I'm really excited for the new Killzone game coming out for the PS Vita, but this thing look freaking awesome too. But the prices contrast sooo much that I don't know if I should get the Shield.
I did.

I want this guy to read me bedtime stories. His voice is almost too comfortable for reviews.
So how does this work, i have borderlands 2 and i want to stream it on that thing, do i need to buy it again? Like a nvida shiled copy of the game?
How does it handle PPSSPP ?
Where's David?!
If only the screen could do a 180 and flip down into the controller for tablet use.
The thing is, there IS no competitors. When they first showed Dead Trigger 2, I confused it for a stream of Borderlands 2, I like!
I can't think of another android device with an excellent built in controller and PC game streaming capabilities for less than $299
Thumbs up if you think this dude should do more reviews.

no. only the steam version?
I had to turn off the sound and read captions
no (you dont need to buy it again at all) I recommend though checking out their website about PC streaming.
Hmmmm. im considering on getting one after i build my pc.
If I bought this, this would be like a portable xbox for facebook and instagram.
yeah i would have it. but when i built my computer my dad said suggested a get a amd gpu.
Sean, can you please do some Pat Bateman oration? Just a video, telling us about your morning routine..
They should make it so you can take the screen off
this isn't supposed to be a replacement to your phone at all. Its a gaming device first, media device second. Don't get it twisted.

1:21 just awesome...
dam did you see him throw that plate
To be fair that only means that Shield isn't just a games console.
If only the screen could detach and re-attach like a Windows laptop. Dear Nvidia, feel free to use this idea so when we don't feel like gaming, we could just use the screen!
Combstock?
You sound like that kid who wants to review things in his room in the middle of night, quiet enough so his mom won`t hear.
can you play on a mac
Rayman Legends, Batman Arkham Origins Black Gate, Dragons Crown, Terraria, Spelunky, Killzone: Mercenary, Walking Dead, Tear Away. They're the ones I can think of off the top of my head. wow, they did deliver

damn idk if i wanna get this or the ps vita.
check out ifixit they just did a teardown and there is a fan
sir what is the name of the tomb raider game can i play it on nexus 7 2013
Getting one just because the hardware looks soooo cool! :)
There is no fan in the Shield...I wonder why he said there was.
I had a hard time with which one to get but can someone tell me what to get ouya or the Nvidia shield
get the shield, the ouya is having a hard time with game support... Do you have a Geforce Computer?
just based on specs, shield is the one to get. It's portable, but can easily be used like an ouya if you get a bluetooth controller. The shield outputs 1080p through a mini-hd output, but I've heard it can also do 4k.
don't forget the INSANE battery capacity of this badboy :)
He kinda sounds like Bateman from the intro of American Psycho.
Problem is that it's a portable game system that doesn't really fit in your pocket at all...
Voice so soothing.

Get a nexus 7 new or wait till price bops down
God that deep breathing wtf !!!!
the screen should be removable :)
Yeah right, maybe the shield 2 will have this feature.
They snuck in that ps emulator shot, you so sneaky...
android is known for resource hog and even with quad core cpu you still can find lag on android
Two words: Porcelain Throne. Not because it's the only use, but because it demonstrates the versatility of this device. Living Room? No problem. TV Room? No problem. Bathroom? No problem. Does find his voice oddly soothing ???
Wait, a system fan? In a handheld device? And he just let that out without a comment on it? Wow.
I hate that since android came along no one bothers making their own os
I'm pretty sure we won't. It's too costly to make a proper high budget videogame and it's too risky on a platform where piracy is so rampant. Even the Vita doesn't really have a compelling library of games.
I'm not getting it until Android has some more games.
I'm sorry, but his voice is freaking awesome.
Ever heard of Razer Edge Pro, Dude!!!
better FPS on 720p and people won't notice the difference between 720p vs 1080p on a 5 inch screen.
if you have the device modded roms, like touchwiz or sense, then yes. But stock android doesn't really lag if you have jelly bean, and that's what the Shield has. You missed how this would make a great system for emulators
Pretty sure God just narrated this hands-on
I think a lot of outlets are guilty of this, most likely for legal reasons. It's the main reason I'll probably end up buying one of these.
I was going to get the new nexus 7 but........
because I doubt anyone would fucking notice on a 5 inch screen a foot and a half away from your face unless you have eagle vision lol. (it's also better on the battery)

metal gear and FF8 in the background. has good PS1 game taste at least.
It's like a human voice melded with Microsoft Sam
i felt like a prophet was speaking
Except you can't play the Steam games on the go and not all of the Android games are designed for Shields landscape screen.
