I WANT TO PLAY A GAME. In 2003, two young filmmakers from Australia released a short film called Saw, and seventeen years later it was one of the most successful horror franchises of all time with a feature film adaptation and eight sequels.
Welcome to Things You Missed. For the next month I'll be covering one of the most beloved franchises in horror: The Saw Series. The original feature film Saw was directed by James Wan and released in 2004. It laid the groundwork for everything that would come after. I'll be breaking down all of the Things You Missed, digging out every small detail, easter egg, reference, connection, motif and homage.
From the hidden details that give away Jigsaw's identity early in the movie, to the meaning behind cryptic symbols, the method Adam could have used to win The Bathroom Game, and even a very, very early sign about the ending of Saw 7, I'll be explaining everything you might have missed in the movie.

About Spiral

I think the point of john having the reverse bear trap sketch in the hospital splayed out is because of his hole idea that because he was sick no one really paid any attention to him.

The spiral is actually a religious symbol already - in paganism, it can mean either rebirth or spirituality depending on its direction, but rebirth would make total sense

Don’t know for sure what you mean by direction but the spiral on Billy’s cheeks and the new movie cover (in this vid) were🍭🍥 while the one on the wall was🌀 like a G (from center)
So maybe... (unless it was a mistake and all were supposed to be the “same” spiral)
It’s both because he runs a cult but he was rebirthed after his kid died. So billy was gonna be his son but now is the doll and jigsaw was rebirth after the car accident

Given how John considered himself reborn after surviving his suicide attempt and he thinks his traps change the survivors that fits.

That sentence gave me chills as a kid.
I always thought it should be "ankles" not "feet".

Adam's pretending to die bit was the most hilarious part of the movie.
Adam's tape said (paraphrased) "Are you going to watch your life go by ir do something about it?" He was never told specifically what he had to do, and he did take action.
Adam worked with Gordon to figure things out, later trusted him and told him the truth about the stalking and the photographs. He attempted to fake his death so they could try to trick John, felt empathy for Gordon when their time ran out, killed Zep to save them both and tried to shoot John to save himself.
He DID DO something that wasn't apathetic and passive but was still left to die for it. Always pisses me off.
Then they retconned it in Jigsaw, where John saved you-know-who because it wouldn't be fair to kill him while he was unconscious. But he let Adam die to teach Amanda a lesson?
5:40 I think that message was meant for Amanda since SPOILERS she ends up giving her life to Jigsaw and becoming his apprentice.

i think it’s for him and maybe he had to decide whether to sacrifice himself in the rbt or pass it on to amanda. because he passed it onto amanda, he was punished. i haven’t done research prior to this comment but maybe he has a selfish past of putting himself before others, resulting in them getting the backlash of his decisions. he had to decide between himself and his loved one and he was selfish. jigsaw didn’t tell amanda that his task was to decide so he could see the real her. if she knew, she probably would’ve killed him out of rage, not the instinct to survive. idk tho it’s just an idea i thought of lol

I actually just got out of an argument about how Saw has the perfect storytelling as it has a gory, twisted web of motives for every character involved that would challenge morality with fatality

@@blindsey1043 true he had no clear instructions but he had some clue when he found 2 saws and heard gordons tape, also at the end he tries to shoot john(poor choice) and he leaves him there to rot. If he didn't do that, john would have probably explained him what he actually had to do(cut off his leg) and maybe even handed him the saw gordon used, giving him a chance to survive

At 10:38, you actually can see Adam in the diorama. Look very closely at the bottom of the diorama right of the model bathtub and you'll see his foot and his upper back against the diorama's wall.
Plus theres a theory that Adam worked for Jigsaw as a photographer since the very first kill (took photos and found the location of Cecil) :)
I've always thought how it was dodgy as he'll that Adam could never escape since the key immediately went down the drain.
Right? At least give the guy a chance 😂😂
But, if Amanda disobeyed john on the olacement of the key, why does John leave adam for dead?
@@Wolfyone94 I think the whole point of Adam's test was that he just goes through life watching other people without caring about himself, so his test was probably left to Amanda to give him some sense of "don't think about this other guy in the room, focus on me". John was knocked out by the time the trap was set up, so he didn't realize until later that Amanda had totally fucked Adam over with an unwinnable trap. Its even referenced in Saw 3 when John flashes back to tell her that he knows her traps suck and don't give people the chance to save themselves
@@Wolfyone94 John tells Adam the key to the leg cuff is in the bathtub. John didn't know it went down the drain.
@@EllieLove21 but, Adam DID, in that moment, we know he realizes that the thing he heard and felt slip down the drain in the beginning, was the key. All he wouldve had to do, is tell John. We see in Jigsaw that John is willing to save someone if they only die by mistake, so why wouldnt he correct it this time? (Granted, i know jigsaw came much later, and It may not have always been in Johns character to do that, i just think it warrents some sort of explanation.

When he painted the glowing X on the wall did anyone else notice that it was the most dramatic 2 brush strokes in history
John wasn't just pretending to be dead. He used an injection that slowed down his heart rate and/or maybe did something that made him sorta paralysed, explaining how he stayed still for so long

I thought it looked like there was a third miniature in the bathroom. Kind of looks like a foot in the bottom left corner. 10:45
Something I noticed about the diagram of the bathroom trap was Adam's doll is actually barely noticeable in the corner he would have been in the movie. Though I could be wrong as well.
A friend of mine actually wrote his own version of SAW if the game went as intended. A deleted scene from SAW 3 shows John telling Amanda to tie the key to Adam's chain. The game was originally going to be a race against time as Adam would have to get the key and free himself while Gordon tried to kill Adam before he escaped.

My favourite thing about Saw is that I’m fairly certain the film reuses the same staircase for every staircase in the film, just from different angles and with different decorations. Also when Tapp covers the drill chair victim back up rather than saving it, it’s fucking hilarious.
Wow, this was such a good video!! I totally forgot about the SAW movies... I binge watched the first 7 back to back a few years ago, and I remember really appreciating the amount of detail and callback throughout the series, which seemed to be planned from the very beginning!

Great video! I think the Saw franchise is very underrated. The storytelling and Jigsaw's conviction always brought me back. The characters are good too so I'm excited to follow your Saw series!
Wakes Up In A Panic.
What i don't get is that Amanda throw the key in the bathtub to give him another chance. And that John didn't know that she throw the key in the tub. But at the end when he stands up, he said to Adam that the key is in the bathtub... So then it was all part of the plan of jigsaw. He knew that the key was flushing away in the gutter...

When you do Saw II, make sure to find the dvds special features. They give easy ways for different traps to be beat. For instance, the “finger traps” the girl gets her wrists stuck in has a key just on the other side of the box. You can slightly see it in the frame. GREAT VIDEOS!

When John wakes up near the end of the film, he says clearly that the key to Adams chain is "in the bathrub". So he originally intended to place it there.

Side note... When The Bathroom reappears later in the franchise, they're actually just using the bathroom set from Scary Movie 4... because they couldn't get the old set (and I think it was cheaper) so the layout is slightly different

Look closer at the bathroom model. Adam is in there. He's just all the way into the corner by the tub. You can see his leg and foot by the model of the bathtub. Look again.

Hey CZsWorld 10:55 you can see in the bottom of the of the clay diorama that there is a another figure in there but you can only see the foot really. unless you were pointing out the tub without a figure. made me think that if adam wasn't originally apart of the game since the timing if it was someone else that was supposed to be there and ended up being moved to another game because of adams connection to the Dr. I could be missing the point entirely it is 4 a.m. for me currently.
