I purchased this from Seattle Coffee Gear as I was sold on the pre-ground option. As she states, one scoop of coffee with the included scooper also matches the manufacturer's instructions. However, this will cause the machine to malfunction and will leave a terrible mess of grounds inside the machine. Even if you use slightly less grounds, more often than not, the machine will malfunction. Philips customer support says to use no more than 3/4 of a scoop which produces weak coffee rendering the pre-ground function useless. Seattle Coffee Gear will charge you return shipping as they pretend that the machine functions properly when it malfunctions when following both manufacturer's and Seattle Coffee Gear instructions. If you're interested in purchasing this machine, just note that the pre-ground feature does not function as advertised and Seattle Coffee Gear is not interested in making things right.
This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.
My first fully automatic. Love it. Affordable. Easy. Produces good espresso for a fully automatic. Of course I still have my Delonghi La Specialista as well for that more manual feel
After seeing plenty of reviews on similar fully automatic machines, I finally decided to purchase EP2220/10. I can easily say that the coffee shots are very consistent. I had to make almost 10 cups to find my perfect grind settings for medium roast coffee beans. Set up to level 2 for now and getting very consistent shots. Frothing is good too, but pushes a lot of water along with the steam. I find it good value for money. Use medium roast and avoid oily dark beans.
One suggestion for this machine - after you steam your milk and before turning off, do a round of hot water. This will clean out your steamer within the machine. It lasts about 7-8 seconds, then turn off.
You all probably dont give a shit but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot my password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me!
@Eli Gianni Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Hi SCG, I've had this machine for the last few months. Can you help troubleshoot with bitter/sour shot? Obviously I know there's only so much that can be adjusted given that it's a super auto and it's probably underextracted... Current coffee/settings used: * Adjusted to max water temp * Finest ground setting * Coffee: Dogwood Coffee - Bear Hug Espresso purchased from SCG
What is the best way to froth milk? I tried some general videos for frothing milk but it doesn't work really well with this milk frother. I am interested in learning Latte Art.
Great review, I ended buying a machine from your site right after watching it! Quick question, I want to be able to brew decaf in it, without having to switch the beans. Could I used the ground coffee section for decaf and whole bean hopper for regular? I'm really trying to avoid the need for two machines. Thanks for your help.
This machine is a PITA. I've used it for well over a year. The grounds are really wet when making an Americano type coffee and will grow mold really quickly before a weekly cleaning in my 50 to 55% humidity environment (when is not that humid). I actually have cycles were I go back to my Aeropress after cleaning this machine. My previous Saeco Moltio never had that issue, which I think is related to the overly wet grounds.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH because it doesn't matter unless you empty after each use and that is ridiculous. Never had those issues with my former machine, a Saeco Moltio.
Did you use regular milk? Was it warm before you applied steam? I typically use almond milk, but can’t reach the desired final mix. Tried other barista style milks and never worked. Any tips?
is there any where in Australia i can buy this coffee machine how easy is it to flush and clean is there a button to clean it after you have used it for a while
I thought the same thing. But I can tell you it taste better than you’d think for such a quick pull. It won’t give you the quality a semi auto can…but very drinkable. Not sour like you’d think.
I have 2 questions about this machine. 1). Can you put pre-ground Espresso in the bypass coffee area? 2). When using the Hot Water button, does the water heat up quickly, was wondering if someone would need to wait for hot water when they want it?
You can put any pre-ground coffee in, that's the entire point. If the machine is dead cold, it takes maybe 60 seconds to heat up and run through the rinse cycle. If the machine is on standby, maybe 30-40 seconds. If you wait longer (10+ mins), the water will be hotter.
Hey there! I bought this Product but i have no Aqua Cleaner :o . I bought the Series 1200 (ep1220). What Filter i have to buy? I only found some Filters but not for the Series 1200. Can i use some other Filters for Philips Maschines?
this came with mine “PHILIPS AquaClean” Protects your machine from limescale deposits and reduces the need for descaling When the machine indicates it, install and activate a new water filter.
The filters are a scam. They want $25 CDN for each filter. Hard pass. Way cheaper to use pre-filtered water if your tap water isn't good. Luckily we have great, good tasting, soft tap water, which means no filter required and minimal descaling.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH thanks a lot for the tip! I will do that. Actually I bought a filter some months ago, and nothing "extra" happened, same taste, same amount of coffee, etc...
How does the espresso compare to the Bambino Plus? Love the features and price of the Carina but it won’t be worth it if it doesn’t produce good coffee. I’m torn between the two models right now. Ugh
I just received the Carina and got it set up today. It’s a great little machine for the money! I haven’t gotten it all tweaked and set up to my liking but I’m happy with it. The biggest concern I had when I was considering this purchase was the quality of the milk steaming but that was put to rest after my first go with it.
Not having to buy pods was the main reason we got this machine. We were spending about $500 - $600 a year on always having to buy them. That along with the waste that we were contributing to with disposing of pods constantly was enough of a reason to buy this machine.
Pod systems are a pox on humanity and the earth. Fuck pods and the people who invented them. Plus, the coffee is expensive and pre-ground. Anybody with 2 brain cells knows you don't grind coffee until you're about to use it.
I wound up giving mine away because the coffee was disappointing. It's very well-engineered, makes coffee quickly and easily, and the steam wand makes great froth. I really wanted to like it. But the coffee didn't taste as a good as the coffee I get from a drip maker or semi-automatic espresso machine (or a Melita pour over or Aeropress or moka pot or French press). My family thought the coffee tasted fine so maybe I'm just too picky, but for me the coffee wasn't worth drinking and the machine wasn't worth the counter-top space.
It's all about the grind setting, the water and ultimately the beans. As soon as we switch beans, the difference is immediately noticeable, good or bad. Been using our Saeco superautomatic for 9 years and we are very satisfied with it, even though the pump has failed twice. If you're a total coffee snob, perhaps the result will never be to your liking, but I know we enjoy ours and when we have coffee elsewhere (friends, restaurants, etc), we usually find their coffee is not as good as ours.
We are constantly told by coffee "experts" that in making espresso a very high quality grinder is priority number one. Are we now supposed to believe that these dinky little built in grinders with an amazing 12 step adjustment are up to the task of producing a consistent espresso grind? Which is it? A $400 stand alone grinder is barely good enough or an entire $400 super automatic is good enough?
gblan Yeah nothing is consistent. The word ‘espresso’ means something different in this video then a video talking about a ‘setup for 200’ dollars. In that video, 400 dollars for a machine and grinder was being treated like barely trying. Just not consistent..
A super auto is like having a limited espresso grinder with a basic pressurized portafilter machine. So, a $400 price point is adequate for what you get. The grinder is only 12 steps, not 30+ that average espresso grinders have. But in reality, these super auto machines dont need to be that specific since they act like pressurized machines.
They use ceramic burr grinders, about 2.5" in diameter. Mine is 9 years old and I just serviced the grinder. Took the machine completely apart, removed the grinder and cleaned the ceramic burrs with a brush. It still looked like new, barely any wear. That being said, I don't understand why people expect a $400-$500 machine to perform like a setup that costs $5000+. Your cheap Chevy Cavalier isn't going to be an S-Class Mercedes. You get what you pay for.

Practical tip: never switch the steam on and put the pipe in the jug like this as lots of water will come out first.

Exactly. Without that "pre-infusion" it was barely 5s... Pathetic. The coffee must taste "great".

Hey Debra! No issue with pre-ground espresso-just keep it to a single scoop. The hot water function is pretty much instantaneous.
