    I am taking my IELTS computer based test on 16th Oct, the day after tomorrow. Whoever feels I am lucky to have gone through this writing Task 1 video, please hit the like button.     There is actually something called semi-formal. If you're asked to write a letter to your neighbour (who has just moved in next door) inviting them to a party you're throwing. In this case, it isn't quite formal, as they are not a building manager or your manager. But they are also not your friend exactly, as you don't really know them. This means this is actually semi-formal and things get tricky here. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    I just have one question: If I am writing to a lecturer about why I missed the deadline, I know it is formal, but do I say Dear Mr. Thomas or do I say Dear Sir or Madam.
    The same question applies to a neighbour.

    One thing to note in these letters. When the plane left without you. How can they remove your bag from the plane and escort you out of the airport. (Remove bag from the plane, did they remove before the plane take off?)

    Doubt 1 : Don’t we have to write SUBJECTS for mail or letter ?
    Doubt 2 : If the nature of letter or email is thanking one do we have to write THANKING YOU down at footer as we do otherwise.

    Is it okay to write a 40-60 words paragraph for a bullet point like "introduce yourself"? Wouldn't that be too long for such information?

    How appropriate would it be to use extreme regional slangs like footy if the examiner themselves isn't from the UK? I use footy as an example as that might only be used in the UK, not in any other English speaking nation. Someone from the US might not know what the hell it is, as their definition of football is totally different anyway. They call football 'soccer'.
    Shouldn't we just use common universal phrasal verbs and informal lingo rather than very regional slangs? Do you think an IELTS examiner from Sri Lanka would understand what a 'footy' is?

    Hi, I just wanted to confirm, during my last Ielts writing exam, I received a letter mentioning that I have to write a letter to a retired family I know who are coming to visit my locality and in that it was mentioned start with Dear ......., So I interpreted that it was Semi formal and started writing saying Dear Mr & Mrs Smith. So was I right? Was it a formal letter format that I had to use since it was not mentioned friend?
    I have another exam coming up tomorrow so it would be great if you could reply me.

      You’ve misunderstood how the test is scored.

      Its average of both task 1 and task 2 . So, the both task scored in 9 and take the average.
