  • SWAT, "Special Weapons and Tactics Team", is an elite paramilitary Special Operations tactical unit of the police department, first established in America.
The SWAT team is trained to perform high-risk operations including hostage rescues and counter-terrorism, serving to protect their designated location from heavily-armed criminals with an expertise beyond the capabilities of regular officers. Not only do they receive high-quality training, but are also equipped with specialized firearms including submachine guns and grenades.
SWAT was first established in the Los Angeles Police Department in the late 60s, and since then, Officer Charles Joh has made his mark as the first Korean American officer to have joined and currently serve, in this elite force.
Officer Joh has served in LAPD since 1996, a veteran with 14 years of experience in the field. In an effort to join the SWAT Team since 2003, Officer Joh trained vigorously and served in various departments such as the Metro Transit Police team and the Mounted Police Department to increase his experience level. And finally, in March of 2008, he became a member of the SWAT team.
He is now a respected member of LAPD's SWAT, being part of SWAT's Scuba Team for maritime operations as well as serving as a leader for many trainings, including marksmanship, roping, and defense tactics. As a proud Korean, he has even taught his fellow SWAT officers TaeKwonDo, as means of cultural exchange.
A father of two sons, a loving husband, and a proud son to his parents. But when he's on duty, he is Officer Charles Joh, ready to put his full energy towards serving and protecting his community. Let the action begin!

A lot of the training reminds me of military training. I've never been a police officer but I was in the military as an armored vehicle crew member or tanker. And the training we did considering today's battlescape was less emphasis on conventional tactics and more emphasis on counterinsurgency tactics meaning that our training was less on the tanks and our experience was less on the tanks our experience was much more clearing buildings conducting route clearance in Humvees and conducting movement under fire exercises I'm not sure if tankers 20 years ago or 30 years ago got the same training. From what I heard from my older ncos it was mostly a lot more time on the tanks. We spent very little time on the tanks and a lot more time on shoot house which is a live fire room clearing exercise where pop up targets come up as you enter a training building and you are engaging these targets as a member of a squad or fire team you learn things like scanning your lane and staying within your lane so that if the pop-up Target is not in your lane or in your corner of the room you don't engage it your priority is securing that corner of the room that Target would be engaged by the soldier who is responsible for that area of the room. It really makes you think about a lot of things you have to stay below Windows when you're stacking up on a house breaching a door you never want to be standing in the doorway if it can be helped. This training really reminds me of military training so I did some reading about the lapd's SWAT team and their history and apparently they were formed by police officers that were veterans of Vietnam. As cool as tanks are I'm very glad that I got the training and experience that I did in more infantry style tactics. It was a lot of fun tanks seem very cool until you're stuck in one for a few days straight and sweltering heat. If I could go back and do it again I would have become a cav scout rather than a tanker because the cap scout is really the Jack of all trades in the military. You're trained in armor not the Abrams but you're trained in every other armored vehicle but you're also extensively trained in infantry tactics plus reconnaissance. nowadays everybody gets a lot of infantry style training because that's the nature of war these days. If this was world war II I probably would have spent my entire 3 years in the army in a tank rather than on foot with an M4 or an m249 or in the back of a striker as part of a dismounted Force during movement to contact where they get as close as possible with the striker and then everyone in the back exits the striker and takes up positions. It's really fun stuff anyway this is an awesome video. I always kind of thought that SWAT teams were pale and comparison to the training and experience that we received in the military but now I see that it's very similar and the reason for that is because it was designed by veterans and it's based on military tactics. In my home state we do not have SWAT teams in communities there is only one for the entire state

Are there m4s actual m4s? Like the ones we got in the army they have the three round bursts select fire or are they just the civilian variant? I couldn't see the selector switch. I'm wondering I think that if a police department is going to have a SWAT team and a so-called armored vehicle then they should have a real armored vehicle what's wrong with a good tried and true up armored Humvee. That thing looks more like a brinks truck which honestly is not armored at all sometimes I sketch pictures of different ideas I would have for armored vehicles it's kind of a hobby of mine ever since I got out of the military. I came out with a pretty good template for a armored car I came up with a template for a Police armored vehicle and I came up with a really good template for a cash transport armored vehicle.
