    A few pointers, always remove the amplifier board from case and inspect it, buy a good multimeter with a diode function that will buzz with a short, always check all the mosfets legs with the multimeter, cutting the fets legs to remove it allows you to remove the legs one at a time. Use Chemwik desoldering braid to clean and remove the excess solder. Bend and align the prongs ahead of time before installation of new mosfet and solder it one leg at a time ensuring a straight alignment! Clean the board if residue is present, if compound was on the fets clean the old off and reapply new compound to all transistors, diodes and thermal monitor if it was mounted to the heatsink as well!
    Some amplifiers will present different issues of failure, I bought a Earthquake 400tx that would only go into protect, I replaced the TL594 with a TL494 since the 594 is obsolete and it works fine. Some amps will have failed diodes and some will have failed voltage regulators. Some need output transistors! Every Amplifier is going to fail differently! I just rebuilt an Orion HCCA 225G4 and it had failed power supply and output transistors! Right now I am working on a kendwood KAC-X1R that someone attempted to repair and I have to do some repairs to the traces of the power supply, it even had failed output transistors! But it was someone attempting to try the repair with no skill level and improper tools and that lead up to damaged traces!
    If you wish to attempt a repair make sure you buy the proper tools and needed accessories like good desolder braid and plenty thermal compound and at least a 30 watt soldering iron and decent solder wire! Or turn to someone who is capable of doing a repair and has some experience with repairs and the equipment! I would have opted for replacing the entire side or all of the mosfets where the exploded ones were, some people don't and it leads to more cost in another repair! But that is up to you individually!

      Thank you for your great insight this gentleman is a joke desoldering pumps work alot better than a paint stripper heat gun for 1 it's not smd although anything surrounding the area of application will most likely fail soon due to the fact he desoldered it all stop providing horrible tech advice if u dont know what u are doing sir !!!

    Here is a tip a bit out of the automotive line. If you enjoy listening to audio off your computer, amps normally used in a car work great. You use a discrete DAC (digital to analog converter) for your volume control (you can get by using your computer DAC,they all have one) and some unpowered bookshelf speakers. You can find good 2 channel amps in a lot of pawn shops,they make a great addition to your desktop computer system. I am using a Rockford/Fosgate P4002 that I picked up real cheap,happy as a clam. The amp section in a amp designed for a car usually have higher quality parts than a home audio amp (OK up to a point) you are not paying for features you do not need (like a receiver). I use high capacity dry cell battery intended for an ATV and keep it charged off a 12v rail from my computers power supply. It is possible to wire in a sub if you get a speaker level sub to parallel off your speaker channels,works great and is a heck of a lot cheaper. It is pretty impressive when you see the quality of construction when you compare a car amp and a low level home audio amp.All these amps are just waiting on the shelf in your neighborhood pawn shop,make an offer,they work great at home.

    How come you didn't use any heat sink thermal compound between the new Fet and the existing thermal tape. Whenever you disturb the original interface compound has to be used. It will not transfer heat efficiently.

    • @LuxorVan
      @LuxorVan 9 лет назад

      It is about the impedance and wiring your subs accordingly! The excessive heat is caused by too low of an impedance! Remember 8+8 ohm equals 4 ohm and 4+4 equals 2 ohm! Average amps will only handle 4 ohms bridged mono and 2 ohms bridged stereo. I take it this was a two channel amp! Obviously the amp is burnt and perhaps you could just opt for a cost effective mono class d at around $130-$150 you can get a mtx mono amp, if you need 1 ohm then they still make class d able to handle such impedance!

    I have a Digital Designs M2C AMPLIFIER that I bought used 2 years ago. When it arrived in the mail, the RCA inputs were damaged. I desoldered them and replaced them with the RCA inputs from the master slave link side. I eliminated the inputs for the master slave link side. When I powered the amplifier on it turned on but no signal to the subwoofer. I removed the bottom cover and looked at the components and nothing looks like it's burnt. Could this be an easy fix? Please advise.

    Hello, I have an amplifier and it doesnt work. Its lights are ok. Everytime I turn it on with the subwoofer connected 2 small components situated next to each other named C4467 and A1694 get hot. The speakers work fine because I connected them with my house Amp. If I change channel to my subwoofer then another set of these components gets hot equally. Moreover if I coonect only the speakers without the sub then it gets hot but slower. PLEASE help me...!

    Hello sir, good work with your amp repair. Just wondering, off the top of your head you have any suggestions as to why 1 or maybe 2 of the mosfets in my orions xtr2500 amp are getting hot (just over being able to keep your finger on it) The amp still works fine, as far as I can tell but just that one or two mosfet gets hot just by turning it on, even if the speaker wires and rca's aren't even pluged in. Just hoping you could point me in the right direction. Thank you!

    • @SCFPV
      @SCFPV 8 лет назад

      Sounds like your speakers are improperly wired, and your impedance is off. Your more than likely pulling a lower ohm load on your amp than it's capable of. Check the ohm rating and number of Voice Coil each speaker has. Then check what ohm levels your amplifier is capable of being stable at. Crutchfield has a shit tonne of wiring diagrams to so you the proper way to wire it up. If your pulling 1ohm from an amp that's only 2-8ohm stable, then it will cause the problems your experiencing, and will likely end up frying your amp. Hope this helps.

      look at the colored bands on the resistor, then google resistor color bands to find out what value the resistor is. if its burned and you cant see the colors, look to see if there is a corrosponding resistor in the opposite channel, and get the value from that one. there may be something else that caused the resistor to fry though, so you may replace it, only for it to blow again.

    What? That amp is capable of 4000W at 2 ohm? I used to install car audio in the late 90s and an amp that size would generally be 150-300W mono. Orion Red, Precision Power and Phoenix Gold amps come to mind. A PPS amp @1000W was like 4 ft long. Have amplifiers changed that much in 25 yrs?

    hey rick, i have a situation with my ma audio hk10ka. i've tested several amps with my pyramid power supply and after turning off the power supply, the green power light will extinguish immediately. Not the case with my ma audio, the green power light on the power supply stays on, as if the amp is feeding power back to the power supply. The amp hasn't powered on yet, it has only flickered a few times but nothing solid. There are a few speaker outputs missing cuz i believe it's been dropped but the pcb is fine, i have another speaker output rail to solder to it i was able to salvage from an ma audio 802sx. The last owner also says that when he would connect power to it, it would only blow fuse, my power supply protects for about 1 minute then comes out of protect and green light is on. Any idea what could be causing my problem and how much would you charge to inspect the amp? thanks

    to me..the easiest way to replace the transistor is to cut the old one off about half way down the legs....screw the new one down...then match the legs up with the legs on the circuit board..and solder it back..then cut off the excess...what do you all think of that???? I do this on computer mother boards, (laptops) with the power jack...I never unsolder the jack from the board, you will burn it up...cut the legs off...and solder the new one on top of the old legs...and cut off the excess...

    16:00 Not the best way to produce a reliable solder joint. Better to heat each clad with an iron and use a vacuum desoldering tool. Heating up the MOSFET to that high temperature just ensured that it will have an early demise, if it works at all.

    you need to replace parallel mosfet as well beacuse they need to be from same manufacturing series

    Rookie soldering technique, wanted to scream. Try using a better iron and a solder sucker, you wont need the hot air gun. Also, maybe you might try TESTING THE AMP WITH A METER before powering up and frying your brand new FETs. If you don't know what to test, YOU SHOULDN'T BE FIXING AMPS!

      Dude your beyond amature man anyone knows u cant use random fets in conjunction with others when they are produced they are done in lots, batches this is y there are other numbers on the ic these are date of production and lot numbers and with every group made tolerances vary and when u use multiple tolerances they fight each other and I promise you that "amplifier repair" as u called it lasted a week at most if anyone watching this wants to learn from a man who knows his shit look into "barevids" sam knows what he is doing

    I just use a 100w iron...that has a chisel tip on it...that covers all three legs of the mosfets

  • @Rickteg

      may be that you arent getting enough juice from your cars electrical system. this will cause the amp to clip and overheat, and not put out the power its rated for. make sure your power and ground wires are at least 0 gauge for that many watts, but bigger would be better. a bigger battery and possibly a higher amp alternator will definately help.
