MISSING: Madalina Cojocari

- On December 15th, 2022, Madalina Cojocari, a beloved 11-year-old, was reported missing in Cornelius, North Carolina. Her mother, Diana Cojocari, initially told the police that she last saw her daughter on the night of November 23rd. However, investigators soon discovered that nobody outside the family had seen Madalina after November 21st.
This discrepancy raised suspicions, especially as it became apparent that Diana, along with her husband, Christopher Palmiter, were withholding crucial information, impeding the progress of the investigation.
Now, a year and a half later, Madalina remains missing, and investigators are still searching for her…
The last official sighting of Madalina Cojocari was on November 21, 2022, when she was seen getting off the school bus near her house, located at 18413 Victoria Bay Drive in Cornelius, North Carolina.
Madalina is white, with brown hair and brown eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she weighed 90 pounds and stood at 4’10”. She was last seen wearing jeans, pink, purple and white Adidas shoes, and a white t-shirt and jacket.

I’m an American citizen who has multiple nationalities from other countries including Madalina’s. If you’re a citizen of more than one country DO NOT FORGET to find out specifically where all the embassies and consulates of your countries are located. As someone who’s lived all over the world that’s literally the first thing I do when I move/visit places. These consulates and embassies are LITERALLY safe haven; they are your countries’ soil and you can show up with your passport and ask for protection and asylum and anything you may need. There’s no need to put anyone in danger ⛔️ because you don’t trust where you are or think you must go home. Please share!

I live 10 minutes from her home and have an 11 year old daughter. Thank you for covering Madalina’s case. The Cornelius Police and her middle school are excellent and this is devastating. I always hope to see her when I drive around. Thanks for all that you do!
This case has been on my mind since it first was publicly reported. There were such sketchy facts and so little coverage, I've never stopped wondering what happened. Thanks for covering it derrick, I'm looking forward to your perspective and all the facts you've gathered.

I don't quite believe in theory that Diane was protecting Madalina from some danger. If something or someone was threatening Madalina, why not tell the truth to the police while being held in jail? Why not seek their protection and help? Doesn't seem like a caring parent to me.
The one thing I wish you would’ve included is information about mother daughter relationship. Was she seen as a loving mother? Dd the child ever had any signs of previous injuries? Was anyone concerned about the way she was treated at home?

Hi Derrick. Another great presentation of a case. My thoughts are that Madalina is back in Moldova or Romania. I'm sure with the family connections(illegal activities potentially), that a fake passport was manufactured and somebody was paid to take her back home.
Charlotte has numerous direct flights to London Paris Rome and Munich. Easy to get a connecting flight to Romania from any of those places. Even by train as Europe has a great transport infrastructure.
Either way I really hope Madalina is safe and is back home.

This is what I'm hoping too. Her mother pleading guilty for time served will be the tell I think. If she flies home to her no extradition country, I'd guess we have our answer.

Yes, I think about Madalina and Summer too. Harmony Montgomery was another sweet girl I could never forget but her case finally has some closure- despite it being the worst case scenario.
The hill that I will die on is that Summer died due to neglect from her mother and we will never know what happened to her.

This case puzzles me. I do agree with family being involved. I really hope her mom got her somewhere safe if she felt she was in danger. Maybe she’d rather get in trouble with LE bc she feels it’s best to protect her daughter. I hope she’s still alive.
I am so sad about this case. The flyers are still up all over Huntersville with her picture on them. I work in that area on Wednesdays. Her Step-Dad being released on bond made us all mad! We are all praying for Madelina. Thank you for covering this case!
Is it locally believed that he is involved/complicit in madalenas disappearance? I'm following along from Australia but my impression is that he's not a great partner or stepfather, but may not be part of what ever has happened to her. curious to know how the locals view this?
My kids are adults and when I hear these cases it always brings me back to when my kids were that age...So I can relate...
I can understand why Diana would ask her husband first . I know a little bit about this case from Stephanie's channel and I know Diana was a 'mail-order bride' and came to US from Moldova, which is a relatively small country and it's pretty poor too. She was/is likely dependant on her husband in many ways. Like...if she pisses him off she(and Madelina who was born in Moldova as well) can get deported. And Chris could also colour her understanding of police and legal system...not like they teach you about this in Europe in public schools. And English is not her first language as well. I'm not saying she's innocent or didn't do anything. I'm just saying there's certain dynamic to a 'mail order bride' situation. Which tbh sounds borderline human trafficking...

Ty for covering this young child’s case. She has no one on this side of the pond battling for her. And it is sad her mom is out. And not only out but about to be deported to a country where we can’t get her back if it is found Madalina has been harmed.
You should look into some of the lesser-known missing persons cases from Maine. There are pretty intriguing cases.

There were witnesses who claim the mother and Madelena acted different when they were with the dad in public as opposed to when they were by themselves. This is a classic sign of a controlling, possibly abusive person. I fear this child was abused in some way and the mother could have sent her abroad with a fake passport( it’s really easy to obtain one and flee if you know the right people). Remember, she had moved to the USA because she married this man. She could have thought she couldn’t report it because no one would have believed her.
What is puzzling to me is why the mother didn’t leave with her daughter? May be something went wrong if that was the original plan-she couldn’t get a fake passport, etc.?! I hope once Diana is deported to Moldova she will be re-united with her daughter.

My thought process is… if she sent her daughter away to keep her safe, why not just say that. Like privately. To the FBI. In a room where you’re face to face with a detective, tell them. Someone was after us. I had to get her out. She’s safe. Etc. All the “signs” point to that’s what happened but she’s never actually said that. It seems so simple…. Instead she made it harder for them to investigate. Like she had something to hide. And if she was in fear for her daughter’s safety, sending her away to a random country with random people doesn’t sound like she was looking to save her. I would do anything for my son and to keep him safe. But one thing I wouldn’t do, is separate myself from him for years pretending I don’t know where he is. I guess I’m just having a really hard time as a mom understanding how she could be complicit in a rouse to get her daughter to safety and not be more forthcoming to the police literally having memorials for her baby! So much time and money and effort and heartbreak wasted on a girl who wasn’t even missing to begin with… all because the mom wouldn’t just say? It screams fishy. I hope and pray she is alive and well somewhere living a beautiful life, but my gut says her momma knows more and did more then she is admitting to and something more devious possibly happened to that little girl.
She’s from a foreign country, she might not know how that information would be handled and/or might distrust the police

Maybe I’m overthinking it, but wouldn’t her mom have prepared a story about her daughter missing not only to the school/public but especially to her husband, if she had really pre-planned getting her daughter out to safety? I agree it makes the most sense that that was her intention, but it seems like something may have gone sideways before she could get her safe. The “fight” w/her husband & burning furniture? Idk. Hopefully I’m wrong.
I don’t feel that great about the possible scenario either. If I’m not mistaken her mother is/was quite the nutjob regarding this problematic spiritual leader who teaches all kinds of concerning stuff. My Lori Vallow/Ruby Franke flags are up :(

I used to live near by in Davidson and in Huntersville. When I lived in Davidson I would drive through this neighborhood behind the car wash across from Saheeds every day on my way from work. Such a quite safe neighborhood, the trouble is usually across the street or closer to the QT

The husband love bombed her and she came to the US. I'm wondering if her daughter was really his attraction. I think he controlled her and he was the only one the neighbors seen with her daughter walking her and whatnot. When he took that trip to Michigan would be a important place to look. I believe that creep took her. Either that or her Mom sent her back home for her safety. I remember this and these were my feelings at the time idk just thinking.

This case is local to me in NC. Everyone is so confused and angry. (Locals) I pray that the police know more than us. Also, I think the stepfather is out on bond.
My thoughts are with the community. Yes, unfortunately he's currently out on bond, but his trial for not reporting Madalina missing is resuming today.

This is just such a weird case with lots of crossed lines in lots of directions. Was her mother not into some extreme religious practices or am I getting my cases mixed up? I'm almost sure it's this mother who meditated & chanted overlooking the water and her religious extremist practices got really weird. I think Madelina is out of the country somehow and I pray she is safe and loved ♡♡♡

Aw what a beautiful little girl..it's absolutely horrific how common it is for parents to sell their children! I can't imagine what this poor child went through/is going through. Idk..I think she killed her and she's trying to pin it on someone else. This reminds me of Lori Vallow.

Internal injury wouldn't necessarily leave forensic evidence. The plan to get out of the country could be a cover up.

Come on people. Everyone says how close mother and daughter were,she had a passport for her and Madelena and was planning to get her out of the country..she wont say anything and didnt report her missing because (and i could be wrong) she hid her daughter away with family. Shes not saying where she is because stpedad is out of prison and might go find her. Just think about it. If she was that close to her and stepdad was the one to take or "sell" her she wouldnt have waited.weeks to report it and would be making a deal. This is one of the weirdest cases ive seen.

Paperwork explaining how your child is in danger of being “truant” from school which is technically illegal (but also a low-level crime) and can get the parents in legal trouble as well. There are probably various forms that have to be completed and returned to school admin along with literature about truancy and its legal implications for the student and parents.

What does that mean "hiding" Madalina ? Who or what would the parent or step parent be "hiding" them from ? That phrasing is bothersome to me.

Something is not right. The day after the mother and step dad last seen her that November 21 the step dad drives to Michigan November 22. And then neighbors say someone was burning something in the yard that the girl lived in with mom and step dad. So they're are saying she is with relatives hiding her, but I don't feel so positive that she is. I think he could have brought her dead to Michigan and some days after that he or mom could have been burning evidence in their back yard. Like I'm not understanding why they're only being charged with not reporting madelina missing, like why haven't authorities demand to know where is the Madelina. I think all the calls to relatives and the note they found of mom wanting to snuggle her daughter is all a smoke screen to distract authorities and buy them as much time as they can. I'm betting the step dad got rid of her body on his ride to Michigan the day after she was seen November 22, 2022
