  • On February 22, 2015, 22-year-old Asia Brown and her two-year-old son, Ashton, were reported missing to the Greensboro, North Carolina police. The following day, they were discovered in the trunk of Asia’s car, which had been set on fire in a secluded area owned by the City. Due to the extent of the damage to Asia and Ashton’s bodies, a cause of death couldn’t be determined, however, investigators are positive they were murdered.
It’s been just over nine years since Asia and Ashton were killed, and investigators are still searching for the person responsible…
Asia Brown was last seen at around 3:20 pm on February 20, 2015 at the AutoZone store on Randleman Road in Greensboro, North Carolina. Three days later, her recently purchased 2005 black Buick LaCrosse was found burned in a wooded area off Thurston Avenue, a service road near the bank of South Buffalo Creek. Asia and her two-year-old son, Ashton, were discovered inside the trunk.
If you have any information in this case, please contact Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000. There is a $15,000 reward available.

Thank you for all the hard work Derrick! This is such a tragedy and the person who did this is a menace who is a danger to society and needs to be in jail.
Edit to say we should all be so lucky to have a friend like Brittany. Helping Asia with child care, supporting her, and immediately noticing when something wasn't right and reporting it.
If just 1 person did this they would of had to get away from the crime scene, on foot since they cant drive 2 cars at once. It seems they were familiar with the area so maybe they lived near there? Or worked in the area (seems to be an industrial area) to know about that dead end and how well they could hide a car. They also would of had to sit the car on fire at night or else people in the surrounding area would have seen all the smoke. If the person didn't live near there and was on foot, then its possible they called for a taxi once they were a decent distance from the scene. I wonder if the police checked with an taxi services/car services who picked up rides the night of the 20th in that area. It seems like it would have been cold since it was February so I doubt they were walking really far distances.
Or it was 2 or more people and then they could easily get away from the scene via a 2nd car. It does seem personal but if it was someone she knew/staying with I would think the police would have suspects she was talking to listed in her phone messages, especially if she left her baby with them.
I really hope one day this get solves.

Some good points! I'm thinking LE does have some POI's/suspects in view, but no evidence to link them to the crime. Hopefully, someone with information will come forward to help solve the murders.

I feel like the Ashton might have recognised the killer, otherwise why kill him too? Even a 2 year old could probably say if the person was familiar to him (friend, family member, partner or ex).

I have so many thoughts on this case and maybe it’s just because there’s not a ton of info available about the investigation thus far.
I’ve been to Greensboro several times-I love it. It feels like a little college town. Full of culture. I worked for the fresh market (a grocery store) for years and their first ever store is there.
I assume there was investigation into her family and acquaintances and they either haven’t shared anything they found or everyone was cleared but it struck me as odd how her friend Brittany (sp?) said something about she never thought something like this would happen…maybe just a weird way of phrasing an innocent statement. But it comes off to me something like there’s a partner or someone involved with Asia that Brittany thought was abusive or bad in some way but didn’t expect this to happen.
Especially with how long ago this happened, I wouldn’t rule out that maybe she left Ashton in the car at autozone. Absolutely no shade - no judgement on parenting- I know a lot of people used to do that especially if it wasn’t summer conditions. Then the stories are in the news and there’s more public knowledge on it. I still hear Reddit stories etc of people who think it’s ok to leave a small kid-or a kid any age-In the car when you will just be gone a minute and if it’s the weather conditions aren’t extreme especially if the child is asleep and moving them will wake them up ….i don’t agree with this way of looking at it but I’m also not a single parent stretched to my absolute max taking care of a child alone. I’d be interested to know if Asia was known to ever to do this or not.
I also wonder if the murder took Ashton’s life first in front of Asia as a means to torture her.
Maybe there’s evidence to rule that out or it’s just not typical. When you said one of the only reasons to hurt a child who can’t be a witness is to send a message I just thought that being a parent that’s the worst thing that could ever happen. But that would probably mean Asia was not able to protect her son so she was already incapacitated to some extent. Versus a child just being an afterthought once its parent is murdered. Kind of reminds me of the case that just wrapped on crime weekly. If Asia is murdered first, the murderer knows a two year old will not survive on their own. So maybe they think they should take their life now rather than letting them starve etc.? Depending on where the crime scene actually was. Or they think well… I can’t take this baby anywhere or I have to explain where they came from etc. or was someone watching Ashton and an accidental death occurs then Asia comes back and her murder is to cover up Ashton’s death then they moved to another location?
and all that makes me wonder about Ashton’s biological father -maybe there’s no known bad blood there but what if Asia was like going to start the process for child support etc and he decided he’d just get rid of both of them so he never had to have a tie to either…? Or this would expose an affair. Would be beyond heinous but just makes me wonder.
Isn’t it weird too that all this happens when she just bought a new car? Where did she buy it from? Was it a reputable dealership or those predatory type small lots? With maybe shady people around. Did she encounter someone there that she’d never known before and they are this totally out of nowhere person who saw a woman and baby to take advantage of?
Why is she not staying at her apartment that seems very weird to me. With a little baby not having your own space to put them to bed. Etc. is really hard! If you had your own place to be-wouldn’t you be there most of the time? Especially if you’re working so hard to pay for this apartment and everything why are you not going to stay there? Thoughts come to me that she’s afraid to be there alone for some reason (stalker, neighbors that bother her or are just loud even), or she is in a Relationship with someone she is staying with and wants to be with them all the time, etc., a problem with the apartment the Management hasn’t fixed…?
Also that road is a service road mainly for city workers etc….i wonder if part of the investigation was who would even know about that area. Like if you don’t work for the city do you even ever have a reason to be back there? Does gps take people through there?

The time frame of being within the couple of hours Asia went off communication considering her pattern of responding to people and regular social media I couldn't help but think it had to involve some sort of accident THeN cover up makes more sense

I live in Greensboro. I had just moved here the previous Memorial Day weekend (coming up on 10yrs here now). I was working at Domino's (nowhere near where she lived/Thurston/Randleman Rd area) and I worked at the GAA some at that time, as well. The Auction only runs one day a week... the rest of the week is setting the cars up. I want to say auction was on Tuesday, but according to my maps timeline, I was definitely there and driving around in cars on Wed. So, maybe the Auction was Wednesdays.
The GAA is a huge private auction for dealers. Most people only work on auction day, but there are different crews who set up the cars and bring them in from all over the east coast Thursday-Sunday. I started out (as everyone does) just working the Auction, I've only been a driver, and on auction day, we are just driving cars thru the auction lanes. The job was very minimal hours and only minimum wage. But, I enjoyed it because it was fun. Most of the folks who work there (drivers) are retired, and just looking for something to do with themselves a few hours a week. I was one of the younger folks driving (and I was 43). Later, I also worked on one of the crews to move cars from other lots down the road there to the main auction, and then we moved cars from various lots at the auction to get them in place and set up for the next week. The place (used to, I don't know anymore) process thousands of cars on auction day. Even working on a crew, I think it was never more than 5hrs a day, 5 days a week. I feel like working auction day was longer than the others. May have gotten 7hrs if I was lucky to drive some of the last cars thru the auction, or if there were more cars than usualthat day. But that didn't always happen.
I don't know anything about working security there, but it IS a pretty secure place, and they don't let just anyone walk up the building (which is behind dealerships).
My first thought was, why would she have gone to High Point for the DMV... but then I realized she probably went to the tag office there, not the DMV... I've done that exact thing, and around that time even, because the lines are soooo much shorter in HP than in Greensboro. There was a tag office near my Domino's, but it's brutal waiting in line there. It's quicker to drive the 20mins to HP amd use the one at the mall there, instead.
Thurston Rd is a small street off an industrial park... Industrial Rd is something I personally have used as a cut-thru between Randleman Rd and some apartments for Doordash deliveries, but it is definitely not heavily traveled. There are a lot of trucks that drive it. There's a UPS center there near the Thurston Rd, where I've also made a few deliveries before as well.
I thought these names looked familiar when I saw this come up in my feed... but I didn't know anything about the murders. There is a LOT of gang activity here... people's cars get broken into frequently, as well as cars being stolen and showing up elsewhere in town. I've had both of that happen to me. There are gunshots that happen constantly at night... in the summer, it's something of a nightly occurrence where I can hear it. It's usually a weekly thing, otherwise. That's just where I am. Greensboro is a large and sprawling city. And there are gunshot events every night, somewhere in Greensboro.

    • @b_sus87
      @b_sus87 4 месяца назад +1

Been scrolling comments looking for your last statement… there IS A LOT of gang activity in GSO(and the triad as a whole,) and the majority of homicides are gang related. It’s not talked about nearly enough, if at all, and it almost seems like the town just
Thinks if we don’t acknowledge it, it doesn’t exist. This screams gang violence to me… for whatever reason.

    • @feliciagaffney1998
      @feliciagaffney1998 4 месяца назад

@@b_sus87 my car was taken one day when I was letting it run for a few minutes before taking it down to Advance Auto. The alternator was dying... I went into the bathroom and came back out and my car was gone... I was in my house for like 5mins. I live in a small townhouse development just south of 4 Seasons. My parents lived across the street at the time and I went over there to tell them someone stole my car. My mom said she had just closed their blinds like 3mins before. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Someone came thru, saw my car running and took it. Just that quickly.
A week later, I came home and some gang bangers LEFT a car in the same spot where they had taken mine from the previous week. Cops said they had been chasing this guy thru our development. Maybe I'm getting my stories mixed up... because it doesn't make sense for someone to have dumped a car while being chased and then start running on foot. This was back in 2016 or so. But he had gotten away and the cops were towing the dumped SUV by the time I got home.
But I do remember talking to a cop during one of these incidents and the cop had chased this gangbanger thru our development...
And then there was just a couple years ago these kids were shooting cars with BB guns, terrorizing people... hit someone in the eye... then the cops were called and the kids started running... I left from home that day with cops all over the development, chasing down tackling these kids and carting them off to their cars in handcuffs. It was a bunch of kids! One tried to jump out of their car and hightail it thru the wetlands over here. 🙄 when I passed him, he was being led back to the road by the cops, as well. I had left for half an hour to run get something and by the time I got back to my street, I couldn't get home the way I left from the 30 cops cars all over the place. The way I left by (and how I usually go) was blocked.
It's constant. Somewhere in Greensboro, ALL the time. And yes, the Triad in general. There are some areas (Hewitt) that I just avoid all together.
Everyone on Nextdoor... it's weekly, folks talk about cars being checked for unlocked doors, cars being gone thru, contents strewn all over the place... young men in hoodies caught checking door handles on ring cameras all hours of the night... no matter how much it is posted about, people still seem oblivious.
The cops know it's a lot of gang activity. Why don't they do neighborhood awareness events and things?? Seems like there's more the city can do to bring more awareness, and maybe that would help. People would stop sticking their heads in the sand. Why are there no neighborhood watch groups?!? I feel like if there was more proactive attempts by everyone, the community, the cops wouldn't be constantly reactive and always behind the ball.

Did they thoroughly vet both the seller if her new car and the purchaser of her old one? Did she have the money from the sale of her car, or at least transactions to show she received the money from selling the mustang? So So sad. I think it's more likely that Asia did have Ashton at the auto zone, but she left him in the car. He was two, nap time for toddlers that age is often after lunchtime like 12-3 0r 1-4. She could have driven around after buying the car to get him to fall asleep (I did that a lot with mine) and she wanted to go to the store but didn't want to wake him, so she left him sleeping in the car and popped into the store. It happens way more often than anyone will admit but it doesn't make her a bad mom it just makes her human. I have left my son napping in the car when he was 2 years old, most often when I needed to go inside and pay for gas. It's easier that way because they no longer fit in those infant seats where you can just pop the carrier out and carry it while they stay sleeping. At two they are usually in a fixed car seat where you need to unclip them and carry them in your arms and that motion always seems to wake them up. Nap time is sacred, particularly for a single mother, and we go to enormous lengths to not disturb our toddlers. That to me makes the most sense because she seemed to not have a habit of dropping her son off to someone other than Brittany. Brittany was her sitter, and she didn't watch him that day. This is all my unprofessional opinion but after auto zone I think she went (with Ashton still sleeping in the car) to meet someone to show off her new car. She must have been excited about it (The evidence for that is she went to buy stuff to go in her new car) and wanted her friends/family to see it. I think whoever (I'm thinking a man but could be a jealous girl) she went to see assaulted her and Ashton woke up in the middle of it and was making noise. I hope that someone knows something and decides to finally come forward because Asia and Ashton were beautiful , vibrant and young and they deserve justice.

Thank You for covering this absolutely heartless case. I worked for a repossession/recovery company for many years . One particular credit union used GAA as their auction so we would transport those vehicles there. I know we were allowed to deliver vehicles 24/7 and security opened which gates and advised which lane and spot to park particular vehicle of course there were details depending on which lot/gate to drop vehicle off at. I have lived and worked in the High Point/Greensboro area basically my entire life and I just turned 50 so to say the crimes and violence has quadrupled would be an understatement. Actually as I am typing this over the weekend there was a shooting that left a father of 4 deceased and of course they are reaching out to the public for leads. To take a babies life is absolutely heartless. I do not know or have any leads however I am not sure if anyone else has already committed this but I am curious to know this ….. just because she went inside the Auto Zone alone does not necessarily say little man was not in vehicle with someone else? Someone could’ve been in car little man could have been asleep? Like I said this may have already been covered but wonder if cameras were only on the entrance and inside the building? Crime literally everywhere has gone up it seems like especially violent crimes . Could it be someone random well sure BUT with the way this was covered up to remove evidence seems like she knew her killer . Not saying it was a boyfriend etc could be a so called friend, neighbor, etc. It is sad because somebody KNOWS and if I was a betting person would say more than one person knows. However with the code of the streets, not trusting of law officials and more makes me wonder when citizens are going to stand up and take their neighborhoods and streets back. This is a very very heartless vile crime and I would be greatly surprised if whomever did this is not currently in prison or deceased themselves this is not that person or persons only crimes which is very concerning. Again thank you Derrick for bringing light on this case ❤

Do we know what day she bought the car, and have they ever publicly said who/where she bought it from? I'd hope that if she bought it from a private party they would have looked into that person. The previous owner could have lured her to where the car was found by calling her and saying something along the lines of "hey, I found x,y,z, for the car and forgot to give it to you, meet me here....."

Maybe Ashton was in the car when she was buying the accessories. It could be that he was napping, and she decided to leave him to rest in the car. If he was alone in the car, she could have felt like she was going to be quick, and if there was snow after the car was discovered I'm guessing the weather wasn't dangerous due to heat.
But what if he wasn't alone in the car? Perhaps she had someone with them, her son was napping, and she felt happy to leave him in the car not just because she was going to be away for a brief time, but also because she had left someone in the car with him.
If she did have someone stay in the car with Ashton, that person could have something to do with what happened. They could have been the perpetrator or involved. Perhaps Ashton wasn't even napping but they suggested that they stay in the car and watch him while she went and brought the accessories.
If they had ill intentions, they could have been avoiding entering the store due to the CCTV.
Basically, unless the police have other information or evidence that Ashton was not with Asia at all, not in the car, perhaps they even know or have reason to believe where he was and who was watching him at that time, and they're withholding the information from the public, I feel that he could have been in the car, either alone, or she had someone else in the vehicle watching him, or watching him from nearby - like perhaps there was someone she knew in a different car parked within view of the new car.
Whatever the case may be, if she left him with someone, they had someone with them in the car or another vehicle, or even if she left him to nap in the car because maybe she didn't want to interrupt his nap and thought buying the accessories would take much longer if she woke him and took him with her, she must have felt he was going to be safe for that period of time.
I really hope this gets solved. It seems so senseless, random, and brutal. There is either a lack of solid leads and/or evidence, or law enforcement are keeping certain details close to their chests.
I hope they were able to identify where Asia and Ashton had been staying, and that the places were searched, and the people were checked for alibis.
    It's so sad.

Couple theories: whoever was watching Ashton while Asia went shopping wasn’t watching him closely and something happened. Asia comes back and is devastated and this “babysitter” kills her in a panic? Or maybe Ashton was in the crossfire of his mom being killed somehow?
Another possibility is this coward doesn’t know much about 2 year olds and thought Ashton could somehow identify them if Ashton was present when they killed Asia?
I wish we knew if anyone else ever reported her missing? It’s weird she was staying with friends but noone else reported her missing?
I’m glad you covered this case and pray it’s solved 🙏🏼🩵
