I’ve always wanted to play sax, I’m a primary flute player and I tried my friends alto and it was incredible how similar I found them to be and now I’m gonna be playing tenor sax next year in my schools jazz band :)
Most people can learn sax in about 1-2 months to learn from a basic level. I'm no muso, I came at this as an intermediate guitar of 6 years playing. Now im six months down the rabbit hole and truly now understand that to master a sax is a different level but such a fun challenge. im so happy with my progress
Speaking to what you said, your are right because it takes a lot of practice to become good at something. I remember wishing I could pick up the trumpet easily, but hey, I still have to keep practicing in order to become good at it like I am with the drums and saxophone.
I have been a trumpet player for 3 years now, but the alto has definitely caught my attention this past weeks. Next week I will buy an alto and I will learn this amazing instrument.

I recall back in 1980, the toughest was the amboucher; getting your lips to clamp down firm enough but not too firmly, for the reed to vibrate in order to produce a note.
As someone how has been actively engaged with saxophones and saxophonists for more than fifty years I can confirm that the instrument is in fact the easiest instrument to learn to play. Playing the instrument is one thing but playing it so that others enjoy listening is quite another matter. No instrument including the most expensive, the most expensive mouthpiece and reed can assure a beautiful sound. There are just a handful of saxophonists who have managed fortuitously to produce a sound that has quite rightly earned them the admiration and respect, fame and fortune that has been showered upon them. There are possibly an infinite number of considerations, factors and circumstances that have contributed to the total success of these few instrumentalists the most important being the total of anatomical features dental , oral, lingual, larynx etc etc with which these favored few have been blessed with. I myself despite the very best and most expensive being available to me just will never be able to achieve even the shadow of the greatness of the Greats.
What a concise and instructive video. Well delivered and enjoyable to watch. Instrument beginner videos are usually a slog but this stands out from the crowd. Come my next birthday I’ll be playing away on the saxophone. Thank you for your help. ❤️ 🎷
I wanted to upgrade my DSLR this month, but having watched a few of your videos made me think there are other toys I'd play with. A few years ago I had little affair with guitar, but playing it didn't give me that feeling you have when you do something you love.
I’ve been playing music for a little over 2 years (guitar, bass and dabbling in piano) and I always love when people add horns to their songs, and I wanted to do the same. I was originally thinking trumpet but sax is so much more expressive and beautiful (IMHO)
Actually finding this video was a Godsend as the Sax is the instrument I'm looking to learn next. I've played both trumpet and trombone but you really have to have a lot of good breath to make a sound, to know the the sax doesn't require as much is a relief and to see its not as temperamental as other woodwinds, looking forward to getting into it soon!
I was trying to have sax for 3 years now because itsnt available in my country and every time I order things happen now I am couple days from receiving it feeling fire
I’ve been playing sax for 2 and a half years, I only last year managed to actually play my notes properly, I have a tip, when trying to play short notes remember to make a “t” sound ! Not a ‘fff’ sound
I have been playing the ocarina, and been trying to learn the guitar but cant seem to play the songs I like so I was wondering about the sax, because I like wind instruments
i recently heard the new gunship song monster in paradise, and it features a saxophone solo performed by Tim Cappello, ever since i heard his work with previous gunship releases i wanted to learn the saxophone
I bought a trumpet last year, but returned it as I struggled a lot with getting a decent sound out of it. I had trouble getting the correct embouchure. Maybe it was my mouth or my teeth, I am not sure, but man that instrument is hard to learn! I also think I was lacking strength in my chin muscles. I bought an Akai EWI Solo instead "cheating" with digital sampled sounds by just blowing and biting the mouth piece to create a vibrato. Now you have convinced me to buy a sax as I think it would be easier for me to learn. As I can´t spend a lot of money, will a $300 sax be something to start to learn on? Any suggestion for that price range? I know the sound will be better for more expensive sax, but I don´t want to spend a lot of money first. Maybe buying a sax that I can afford to start learning and then buy a better one later. I produce a lot of music and I can add some reverb in post production etc.
Ive always loved the sound of a saxophone. Been interested in learning to play it for years now. But all those keys do throw me off because of how my fingers are. I cant even type on a computer with all of my fingers lol they just dont move that way. Its really the only thing keeping me from trying
