this was the stones at their all time best.....keiths playin is awesome.....they kinda had to prevent a riot.....what band could keep playin in that madness.....truly amazing time, amazing song, amazing band.....
0:07 you know what I mean - everyone just sit down - relax- get into a groove - we can get it together. SIT DOWN Has any other lead vocalist ever captured a moment better with what he said live?
Hunter was actually stabbed right after the song ended. You can hear a female paniced female scream the moment it happens in this recording. Pretty spooky. This is indeed powerful stuff. There was bad mojo in the air that night.
"Hey look man we're splitting you know...we're splitting if those cats don't stop beating up everyone in sight...I want 'em outta the way man!....I don't like YOU!!!" ---Keith Richards at the end of this song...the only one who had enough balls to stand up to those assholes.
@goonchistaw i think its keiths solo not mick t....keiths playin lead throughout.....the solo's more his style ...like the riff during the song 1:01.....classic keeef...
@goonchistaw Thats cool man, the video of this performance on "Gimme Shelter" has some bad editing. It shows both Mick T. and Keith not playing at all when the rhythm guitar starts the song. Although "Gimme Shelter" is an amazing film, I don't like the style of editing during the performances. It's very Mick Jagger heavy, and when you do see the guitar players, the cuts are often from different songs altogether, or different parts of the song.
@abiggerbangcologne It's actually Altamont, not Almont. And it's definitely not in San Francisco, lol. It's in Tracy which is like 60 miles away from SF. I dunno if you can edit the description or if you would even want to, but I just thought you might like to know.
No it's a Hell's Angel who come to talk to him, Hunter is killed right after the end of the song in front of Bill's side of the scene, there's a video footage and you hear screams and see a massive crowd move and then Hunter, wearing a light green suit, is murdered by Hell's who stabbed him in the neck
For some reason I like this dark and haunting performance the best.
This band has some swing in its game! I prefer this over the studio version!
the definitive live version!

I love it
What a great version, the stones just simply rock live.

@goonchistaw Keith played lead all the way through this song, including the solo.

Killer version ;)
@goatman666 I dunno, but I much prefer this version to the studio version and subsequent live versions.

its a paradox
@goonchistaw CERTEZA, essa versão é louca demais!!
Something is different with the audio here. It sounds like your actually there.
@cracks21229 for many many years rock and roll history books have stated that but the movie and bootlegs show differently
This is a "tough as nails" rendition. I like it better than the studio version.
Nityananda of Ganeshpuri says """No one is mad in this world""

Wow, someone was able to look up on Wikipedia!

Enjoy the song people, give credit where credit is due....
オルタモントの悲劇の頃の"Under MY Thumb"だ、私とストーンズとの永遠のテーマ曲!~このナンバーと"ギミー・シェルター"だ~どの時期でも許す!

Altamont's in Livermore, not Tracy, which is a 100 miles north at the beginning of the Sierra foothills.
@abiggerbangcologne Ok, no worries. It's close enough, eh? All that matters is the song. :) Thanks for posting.
I think the little pause at 1:30 was because Mick Jagger saw the stabbing o_O. Nonetheless though this is a beautiful life version!

@JASONCALEDONIA A shot at that.
@rubyrose456 You are welcome.
Are they playing it slow like that because they want to calm people down, or did they always play it this way?
who overdubbed audience? you should hear the bootleg
where is the full spoken part at the beginning of this on here
"Altamont San Francisco" lol
i mean it technically is san francisco
not a very good performance
