- Oil change on my 2012 Honda Fit Sport.
Filter used: Purolator PureOONE PL14610
www.amazon.com/...
Oil: Mobile 1 0W20
www.walmart.com...
Drain Plug washer:
OEM Part Number: 94109-14000
Thank you. Finally a Fit video that shows you the jack point!.
A pointer just in case someone hasn't said this: The reason you fill the filter before it goes on, is so you don't run it dry after the oil change. The filter media in the canister will absorb the oil.
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account??
I stupidly lost my password. I would love any help you can offer me.
@Noah Kyle Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and im trying it out atm.
Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Noah Kyle It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my ass :D
@Avery Moses no problem =)
Is it cool to just rub the oil all over the inner ring and then pop it on or is that not enough?
Thanks you made this process easy and with clarity. I'm a female who likes to learn how to DIY . Thanks again 😊
Hey great video! I've worked on my own cars for many years, I'm an FAA aircraft repairman, and for many years , a large machinery repairman/tech. Just to tell you you did a great job of the way you explain things. To many videos go on and on and you lose track of the instruction. You gave just the right points in the right order. I just subscribed.
Wouldn't it make better sense to lower the car down to level ground "before" checking the oil level?
Yes! Always keep your car on level ground while checking any fluids! 😅
Amazingly thorough! Thank you! I don't do my own oil changes but I needed to know where the crankcase was so--THANK YOU for such a thorough step-by-step on how to change oil on a Honda Fit Sport (mine is a 2011).
Man, oh, man. I'm doing my oil change again for my 2012 fit, and everything is so dirty and rust everywhere. Seeing yours so clean is mind-blowing. 😆
I greatly appreciate this video. Thank you. :)
Pennzoil Platinum ultra plus. 5W20 ..after the factory expired, I Always use a synthetic oil filter. 118,00 miles and still strong.
When I do change the oil after 5k miles...comes out looking like honey.
For pre-filling oil, it's generally not a good idea to do so. Doing that has the possibility of introducing outside contaminants into the oil (post-filter), which has a chance of damage.
(From Rainman Ray's Repairs when he worked at the old place).
Literally the best video I have seen and finally on a car like mine. Mines a 2010 Honda Fit sport. Thank you and keep up the great work!
I’ve watched several DIY videos for doing this & yours is the best- thank you.
Thank u for pointing out the oil gasket thing cuz I ruined my totally new oil change like that it just sprayed all over my garage
Which Oil Filter size do the Honda Fits take?
Same as the Accord or Civic amzn.to/39etF1s
@gusgusfl You can bring it to WalMart or pep boys, or any other automotive shop that recycles old oil. Just put the old oil back in the empty oil container the new oil came in.
@M Contreras Nothing wrong with changing the oil a little earlier.
Thank you from Detroit, Michigan!
just a question, shouldn't you lower the car to the ground when you want to measure the oil level in the engine after refilling?
i know that to measure oil on dipstick, the car should be flat on the ground not inclined. is that true?
Yes. To get a true reading, the car should have been on the ground, level.
The car is so low to the ground that once you get the jack in place, you can't move the handle. Also you made taking out the plug look so easy. I can't get it to budge and there isn't much room for a longer handled breaker bar.
I sometimes have to use a rubber mallet to hit the handle of the wrench to loosen the bolt on customers vehicle that was torqued way too tight from their preivous oil change place.
I change the synthetic oil on my 2010 honda fit sport every 6 months or 9500 km and i use the same process on Toyota Matrix and Venza. I dont follow the oil percentage guage
This was a big help to me today, thanks from Ireland
Good job. I'm not sure my jack will fit under, such a low car! I normally use ramps. I sometimes fill the filter like you did but this works best on cars with vertically oriented filters. I usually use Valvoline synthetic. I've used Honda filters and Fram but hear they are junk so will stop using them. Not an easy car to work on with the engine partly under the windshield, the 3rd gen looks better in this regard.

I recommend (next time) unscrew filter while oil are draining. Do not needed waiting while oil are off the engine.
Oil is going to get all over the place that way
Thanks for the vids. Very helpful. What kind of floor jack are u using?
How about a spark plug and fuel filter change ? That be awesome .
I have a 2011 Honda Fit Sport. I have seen the oil life. I cycled through the menu. My car is the Japanese model. Please advise me.
Very informative video. Well done, thank you.
hı my frıend can ı ask ı have same car but my is standart model and ın hot wheader u got to put same oıl ?0,20
Same engine. The Sport is just an appearance and wheel package.
What tool did you use to tighten the drain bolt to 29 lbf x ft? Is there a tool that measures the bolt tension?
Torque Wrench
could you post links to the equipment you used? Jack stands and jacks you'd recommend? thanks for the video

How much oil does the vehicle take if it is a 2019 sport?
3.8 quarts
Can 10-40 SHELL oil be used in my honda fit?
No. Use 0-20
How many litters for honda jazz 1.2?
It has a plastic shield that needs to be removed
near impossible to jack the car up from the front unless you're using a super low profile jack, how did you jack it with room for jack stands?
Check out 3:24, I was able to reach the jacking point from the side of the car.. I placed the jack in between the wheel and fender well.
I can't do it like that. I lowered my fit with coilovers and new suspension.
I change mine when it is at 50%. It's at 120000 miles and no problems yet
I change mine at every 5K regardless of %
@@DIYCarModz same here. We live 40 miles away from town so it gets 5000 to 6000 miles before that time lol if you don't drive as much or far, change every 5000 miles regardless
The dealership recommends an oil change at 15%. Is this accuarate or should it be done at 30%?
Honda "recommends" doing it when the maintenance minder wrench icon appears on the dash.. or at lease once a year.
around 15%:
"The engine oil is approaching the end of its service life, and the maintenance items should be inspected and serviced soon.
At around 5%:
"The engine oil has almost reached the end of its service life, and the
maintenance items should be inspected and serviced as soon as possible.
Now, this does not mean that you should neglect and not check the engine oil level once in a while to make sure everything is okay.
Thanks for replying. Your video was really helpful.
Which jack and jack stands did you use? Thanks.
I'm using the the floor jack from Harbor Freight and Jacks from Kragen.
@@DIYCarModz Awesome, thank you very much for the response, that is very helpful!
They have so many 3-ton low profile jacks at different prices. I'm thinking to myself, "how are these any different than the others?" Lolz.
Really helpful video. Thanks, man.
Thanks for the great advice!
What way to unscrew the plug Facing the car going upside down
clockwise
I got a question, is it okay to tighten the bolt to 29 ft lbs with a used crush washer? I'm kinda concerned with this, I didn't get a new crush washer during my last oil Change.
I would just tighten the bolt without using a torque wrench. It is a aluminum pan so just don't tighten it too much , you wills trip it.
DIY: Car Modz hey how does that Mobil 1 oil work out for you? I'm due for an oil change and am debating whether to use Honda brand oil or Mobil 1. Also what kind of gas do you use for your fit? I appreciate any info and video is very helpful btw.
-Thanks
Either oil is fine. I've only used mobil 1 on this vehicle since I purchased it new in 2012. It is now 2017 and I've done 5 oil changes so far. Car currently has around 23,000 miles. For gas, we put 89 since we only fill up maybe once a month. 87 is completely fine.
I reuse my washer as it is stuck on the drain bolt and looks perfect and doesn't leak. I tighten it to 25 ft lbs and it was hard to break loose with a 8" socket wrench.
Great job, thanks!
Great video, thanks!
what size for the washer?? thank you
14MM amzn.to/2UBzIZY
Great video
Thx
Super helpful, thanks!
What do you do with the old oil?
gusgusfl I take to my local auto parts store to have it recycled.
gusgusfl use as baby oil
Pour it into the sewer
where do you go to dump the old oil?
suuchi I dump it back into the oil 5qt jug and take it to my local auto store for disposal.
DIY: Car Modz Have you read the tears that Purolator's have been experiencing??
ammosimplycosts2much Yes, I've read it on Bobistheoilguy but I have not experienced it myself. I have opened up 9 used pureone oil filters so far and none of them were defective or had a tear. I have 6 more pureone filters left on my shelf. I'll be using them this year on my vehicles and plan to purchase another case of them next year.
DIY: Car Modz Well good!
suuchi the drain
super thanks
Thanks for the help
E-Brake?!
Parking Brake
i dont know why everyone in state side do oil change every 3000 mile while everyone in europe and around the world do oil change once a year.
My man...thank you.

Macho man.
