That is the most complete, yet concise, summary of what the reality of Star Citizen is from a backer's perspective; that is, if they've been around for a while, have been paying attention and can see the bigger picture. I was a big fan of Chris Roberts from back when "Freelancer" came out, and when I heard he was crowdfunding a new game...the game he always wanted to make: "Star Citizen", I was SUPER excited! Sounded like a dream prospect. I contributed to the initial backing but decided to hold off on diving into any of the early builds because I wanted to dive into the COMPLETED game. A decade later and I'm still waiting. Full disclosure, I've dived into a couple of their "play for free" weekends, but I haven't given them any money since my initial donation. Obviously I'm not as invested as a lot of people, but it was still something I've been looking forward to for years, and given how disappointed I am, I can't imagine what it must be for people like you. Fans who have invested a huge part of their soul's to this game, created RUclips channels, and gone to conventions all for a game that will likely never be what we wanted it to be...finished. It's so depressing, thinking of what we were promised versus where we are YEARS later. I say Sunk Cost Fallacy be damned! Get out now until they have a complete (or at least not busted) product. We should all follow your example and back up our frustrated complaints with actions. Stop giving money, and producing content for what has effectively become a money machine for the few people in charge of this mess. They're just leading us on, and unless something changes, they're just going to keep doing it. What they're doing is wrong, and someone has to say so! Mad respect for you, brother. Naysayers and detractors be damned.

Idk man, it's an ever growing game. Sure, it's slow as hell and most people who invested believe it's time to see more progression. I say to let it bake. The more they do accomplish, the more that gets into the game development community in general. The tech demo for Star Engine is blowing a lot of people's minds right now. I mean they are a tech company who is using their game as product of that tech. You invest in tech companies and take the risk of the project failing. But stopping support is only going to further smother this, and like it or not. The tech behind this game altogether is more than other AAA games on the market. Not to mention as technology advances, so does the rate of that advancement. This game will eventually reach it's inflection point but it's a huge goal to achieve. Starfield took millions and 10 years to make. Only difference is they did it behind closed doors. CIG aren't truthful about everything but what developer is? I've had a major issue with most AAA companies nowadays, and honestly as a backer of this game since 2016 CIG still seems like a breath of fresh air. Sorry you're burnt out on broken promises and missed deadlines. I get it. Many people are. I honestly hope your love for this game gets rekindled, though. I hate it at times too, but I can't deny the scope of it. Even with one single system, it's a huge game. But I also keep in mind even with all the bugs, it's an actively developed game, however slow, and groundbreaking advancements don't happen overnight. It takes, trial and error, and lots of money. I encourage you to watch some of citcon. Many backers, myself included, think this one was different in many ways. The presentations were great and the demos were fleshed out. Anyways, wish u the best man. Hope to see u in the verse.

Alot of people I used to watch back in the day from like 2013 to when i stopped really watching in 2018ish either don't make SC content via twitch or youtube or just quit entirely making content. Luckily I know starfield is coming out and I know it's already oversaturated with people posting about it but maybe covering that for awhile until you find your new way is a good Segway. The easiest way CIG could be continually raising funds is by fixing core mechanics of the game, then hosting competitions with an entrance fee for backers to consider paying in exchange for the chance to win a high dollar ship as a grand prize.
For example, an entry fee of $15 to rent a Drake Caterpillar already loaded with a base commodity for 48 hours. Assuming entry for a competition to earn the most money from the players' continual runs for net profit drives orgs to band together to attack/ defend their mates' Cats, you drive up the percentage of active players on some core mechanics that you want tested.
Plus, the thousands of entrants that would want to win a caterpillar would generate a f*ck ton of revenue on top interest in the game as a result of the popular RUclipsrs who'd have exciting content to record, collab, and compete against one another and their followers.
I'd say the net benefits to the value of giving away what is effectively an NFT, would be 10,000 : 1
Bottom line is that everyone expects to have fun with the game, not have a sec to sec real life space simulation experience. We want escapism.

I used to be one of those that saw you as a problem for SC, but in all honesty, you're right. I am only a few years in SC, and I still love the game (will still play it from time to time) but I've lost some interest in it due to the delays. I can't imagine the pain of waiting 11 yrs for something one was promised. This video speaks alot of truth, and my hope is CIG will deliver on some of its promises soon. Hope your future endeavors are successful Grumpy; you were an asset to the verse and your critique will be missed. 07

After spending so much money. It’s ridiculous.

@ryanorionwotanson4568 How can you say that when AAA games take 10+ years to develop? GTA 6 is a perfect example. That's ROCKSTAR. With multiple games under their belt, full dev teams with only 1 kind of game to make. How long has gta 6 been on development?
Now, take STAR CITIZEN. With its own original architecture built literally it's own engine. Star engine was built from scratch. They aren't using engines that today's developers use such as Unreal Engine 5. Those engines can't handle the complexity of what Star Citizen is building.
You do you, but you know absolutely NOTHING about developing a game. Try it. Then come back to me and explain why it's taking more than 10 years. Don't be ignorant. Educate yourself

@ryanorionwotanson4568 Yes, my point is ROCKSTAR has MILLIONS of dollars, full dev teams who have built 5 games before it, and yet even with all that, they still take 10 years to develop.
Star Citizen had 0. They raised the money themselves, they had to build a team, build engines, programs, algorithms. They could've taken the money and ran.
Yet, they are doing something so ambitious, that noone thinks it's even possible. Glitchy mess? Yeah maybe, but they also were developing 2 games at once. Now that Squadron 42 is just about done. You can see how fast things are being patched. It's insane.

    @theshawnmccown Год назад

For me, the greatest issue i have is the constant use of the excuse, "It's an alpha.". Only 15% finished means rhey have to change the release model.
Live needs to be 100% stable with the current features. I would be fine with the slow development if i could play the current features bug free. They could then have two types of PTU. One that's a buggy mess like what we get now, but has the latest features we see in the current live releases. Then the phased PTU for testing cutting-edge features, like we see with the current PTU.
Getting on a server and doing a bunker mission where npcs are suddenly sliding across the bunker like the flash or even teleporting. Shooting weapons and there is a 15-30 second delay when it shoots. Mission markers and location markers not showing up. NPCs standing sround in clusters blockading walkways or standing in T-pose. The train at New Babbage, that used to work flawlessly, now clipping through parts of the map and buildings. And the list goes on and on.
The wipes are pretty much amplifing these bugs because the grind to get them back is ruined by the bugs.
Not to mention the hits of "woke" culture I'm seeing within the company means it's likely going to show up in SQ42 and the PU. I've got better things to invest my money into that stay neutral on these topics. More money for my racing sims, DCS World and cockpit building gear.
Star Citizen is quickly turning out to be a dud. I had high hopes but their pride to not change their release model, seeming willingness to lie and their atrempts to gide negative comments is leading me to believe it's headed toward a big crash. But, the top three will keep their millions and shrug it off.

Bought 2 ships like... seems like a DECADE AGO now. They represent the two styles I wanted to play in a game like this.
    Over the years:
-The game HAS progressed but at an AMAZINGLY glacial pace
-Bugs and problems with my paid ships have never been fixed. Some features are still not implemented.
-They have 'adjusted' the roles my already bought ships would fit, to make some new ships seem more better suited for the roles I already paid for. Yeah I see what they did there.
I play a lot of other games, and hey, it's not our responsibility to determine if this game will ever release or not, but I wonder... I mean.... it would be easy to release it all bugged out and incomplete, but then, the game would be up. Right now - they get to make money and never actually be accountable for delivering anything, on any schedule. THEY ALREADY HAVE WHAT THEY WANT.
They are not interested in releasing the game, and if they ever do, it will be another 10 years down the road, it will be a buggy mess, they will not fix the bugs, they will abandon the game immediately start selling Star Citizen 2 and get back to where they are comfortable - a big paid development project that never really releases and makes no promises on delivery times.
So, who cares? I 'donated' about $70 for a couple ships on sale, I occasionally install and play around with them, and then I don't play again for 2-3 more years. I don't worry about if this game will ever release anymore; I assume it will not. Meantime, nothing they ever do will ever squeeze another red cent out of me, I am smart enough to have learned my lesson.

I’ve been a outsider occasionally checking in to see progress. The main reason I never committed was scope creep and I never truly believed they could create a single shard meshed server. Seems like if they had focused on single player they would have their Starfield by now, and could have worked on persistent elements (the hardest parts) later; which kind of hints at bad management of the project. I think they will eventually get across the finish line, but it won’t be near what they promised.

Yo dude. You're not wrong. I'm invested in SC becoming something. I don't really care about the whole PTU access thing - as in, we can all trust that over time they will charge for the most ridiculous stuff (like the citcon gear package). But, I do really feel that it's taking too much time to make progress, and really there's not that much to show for it. Sure there may be a whole bunch of back end, tech magic - but none of that matters becasue the deliverable is a working game, and that isn't delivered, and they've failed at delivery for years. The point about not knowing where the finish line is, on even SQ42 which is a closed system, is insane (N00bifier made much the same point). So basically, I've paused SC for months now. I don't have much time, and I just checkin with content creators to see if there's any tangible progress that's worth the few hours I may have to play something. There never really is, but you know - I hope that one day they'll actually do a big reveal, but I ain't holding my breath

There is another thing that CIG will talk about when they have nothing else to talk about, and is never finished. Fire propagation. For many years they've been showing videos of this and how fire spreads and is extinguished. It's virtually the same video over and over again. There's never anything new about it.
About the kraken, only the exterior was developed to sell the ship during one of their presentations. Production was stopped after that, and was never worked on again. But even if it was, it would be like the other capital ships. They still aren't viable in-game, and only NPC variants exist.
Before now I haven't seen that clip of John Crewe saying the marketing team decides how the ship will function. That's a good one. What he was doing with his hands tells me he knows it's a bad response, too.
