That brake lever moves back alot when under acceleration. Are you sure that's not putting any drag in the brakes shaving off mph and time. Maybe put a large return spring on the lever to force it forward when not in use.
Leroy needs some love on the suspension side of things, he bogs at the start and you need the car to be solid to get a good launch, i also suggest adding some aerodynamics to him to stop to wobbly launches, you look at most of the other cars n they have a slick shape, this is what leroy needs!
@@llamacebu216 channel wouldn't be so popular if it wasn't for leroy. Most of the subscribers cleetus now has are because of leroy. So yes, leroy kind of built this channel.

Cletus: changes to slipper clutch Leeroy: goes a 7.3 Cletus: im a genius But in all seriousness, leeroys got so much potential but his aero is so horrible. If leeroy is gonna get quick he needs a body. You should do a poll to see how many people actually think you should body leeroy. I think you'd be supprised, like to get this to the top so cleeter sees this. I wanna see leeroy take back a title. It's sad Ruby is catching leeroy with a whole less liter and a whole turbo less. And on a junkyard truck engine 😫. Crazy what aerodynamics can do. I think leeroy needs to get sprayed, methanoled, bodied, and a fatter tire.
@critical glass+ Tell that to Jeff Lutz and his wagon. Or to Street Outlaws JJ DaBoss and his Chevy 3100 series pickup truck. Aero will give you mph, not necessarily ET.
When you launch Leroy your rear suspension is bottoming out and rebounding too hard, it's throwing your rear left tire out of shape and causing you a loss of traction on the rear left at ~60ft as the tire is forced back to shape. I would try softening the rear or reducing rebound if possible. -Not a professional opinion
@@danielrowe2174 Then more suspension travel to start and slow down how quickly the suspension tries to lift the rear back up after launching. It could just be a limitation of the Corvette springs but the tire being oblong and wobbly is causing the rear to float.
He needs to tighten the rebound to keep the rear in the squat position. Keeping the front extended longer would help also. The rear camber is natural set negative for cornering but that hurts a car in a straight line. Little positive camber would give the tire little better contact. Regardless this shit isn't easy. Once you get down to the low 8.0s regardless of transmission type it's a different world. You have to work 10 times harder for every tenth. Many thought he would be running 7.0s to high 6s by now. When I said no way. I got called a hater and shit from idiot. I wasn't saying it to be a dick. I've raced and built cars this fast and faster. Have the hp is only 1 part of the puzzle. Most don't get that because they've never been this fast or dealt with this kind of power. Specially with IRS and a manual. Hopefully they get it worked out.
The fastest RWD DSM's go low 6s in the quarter. For all the people who think awd is an advantage. Stop making excuses. Great reaction time by Leroy. Needs more tire.
They need to get him to quit bucking at the launch and get it stabilized (Leroy that is). You can see at the initial launch it takes off like a rocket and lifts Leroy. Then the landing happens... With the way the gearing is set, it bog's down initially, because it almost can't handle it. Then the ponies kick in to compensate, which causes Leroy to go into another mini launch and become unstable. The whole process after the initial launch is costing them their times. Solve the launch issue and they get their 7's back. Aeros and Tires aren't going to fix that.
Yep, you can see the difference in that final race. Leroy has no stability, that demon leaves with all the power, Leroy o. The other hand leaves hard, gets unstable then fights into submission before making top end steam. He needs some serious chassis work and suspension set up.
Leroy's leave and his "bucking" is do to the independent rear suspension and the style clutch they are using. to correct the launch they are going to need to replace the IRS with a straight axle and 4 link setup or do a lot of shock work and replace the clutch with one more appropriate for drag racing.
I've met cleetus and everyone at cleetus and cars houston in August and they are the coolest people to have a conversation with, SS717 and GMzl1 would see us as a number on their channel
@@sling__sh0t909 Yeah it would help the handling a lot. I think the lack of downforce from before the 330 on hurts them more than the drag does though. I'd have to go look but I used to work on a old school full size Blazer and I think it was almost as bad as Leroy. Granted they used CFD modeling to calculate the drag instead of a wind tunnel(so it's not the best comparison). Still the thing was a brick with a massive pro mod snorkel, factory roof rack and some other stuff that caused drag. It was the guys grandpops Blazer and he figured drag wasn't as big a deal in the 1/8th and another shop BS'd him saying it wont matter too. We tried a few things and they helped. But in the end he put the 903 Musi in another car and dropped a 600 horse crate motor in and turned it into a big tire street machine with 2 kits and it does pretty good on the streets.
Nah, they got to 8.0 by throwing power at it, with power left over to spare -- there's a reason he has such a problem spinning at launch. They need to get the suspension and tire pressures dialed in so that they can actually get the power to the ground and run a straight damn line.
Congratulations Cleetus, James, and Cooper!! You guys should be damn proud to get that runner-up position, it’s a great accomplishment and all of your fans are proud too. He went 7.8x with the old motor and same aero, the car just doesn't go straight. I bet he'd lower his ET if the car went straight. I also think there is something going on with the tune in 3rd/4th, because the motor sounds a lot less angry than 1st/2nd.
Line lock setup uses a solenoid so I don’t think without that button being pressed that handle works like a conventional e-brake. I always see his thumb on that red button when staging
@Damien Doisher I doubt that, nowadays you can set your 2step limiter and just mat the pedal and it will hold at that RPM, that button I'm more than certain is a "line lock" and that helps him bring the car up to boost when staging.
bobouistic believe it or not aero isn’t the thing holding him back. He’s only losing some hp to it and not the whole way down the track. Honestly it’s his 60ft times and first half needs to get better. Remember he turned it all the way up to run 7s last time he has not done that yet at all since.
@@stevenatherton4629 This engine he has now is capable of putting down way more power than the one he ran a 7 on. He probably is running nowhere close to max on this engine and it is churning out more power than when he was full sending for the 7. Its suspension all the way.
I honestly think it can’t do that time again unless they make grossly more hp in the top end. The heavier iron block up front upsets the weight I feel like
@@RichPianasOilPump Look at the way leroy launches....notice how the whole back of the car dips and spins the tires straight out the hole. That engine is making at least another 400 hp if not more than the original. If anything he added 100 pounds but I couldn't see much more than that. His biggest problem is getting that power to the ground.
The rear needs to be tightened so it holds the squat. It looked like it's bouncing up and down of the hit. Keep the front shocks extended little longer would help also. It differently needs a shock adjustment for sure.
Wayne Bollentin - I think he needs to reduce/eliminate the rear end squat and add some front end lift to improve weight transfer. And improve the clutch. If he can get it to hook harder he can start using some of the additional HP that new engine makes. I think he is getting close to maximizing what the car (stock corvette) can do with a stick without major (big $) upgrades.
Dan Myers I agree ☝️. Running a stick car is tricky. Because it can load and unload the suspension at launch. It makes it much more difficult than an auto car. The slip clutch set up that he talked about I think would help a lot for much smoother launches and keep the suspension and tires loaded. Right now it kind of jerks around at the start. But he does have to stick with a stock style suspension to remain in this class.
@@danmyers9372 you can't eliminate the rear squat on an IRS car. It doesn't work like a straight axle where you can get over 100% anti squat. You need the car to squat with an IRS and keep it there. The front does need to stay extended longer to help keep the rear in position. Granted it was an auto but I've been in the low 1.20 on a drag radial and that was over 7 years ago. Also little positive camber on the rear would help little.

A little down force is a good thing.

I know this completely goes against everything leroy is, but it’s time for aero. Actually, it’s time to go through the car and get it back on top by tuning the suspension a bit more and some body panels. I love leroy, but seeing an 8.0 every pass is killing us! #makeleroygreatagain

When you run an 8.9 but watch the other guy cross the line AND see his time. That's nuts.
Cletus: changes to slipper clutch
Leeroy: goes a 7.3
Cletus: im a genius
But in all seriousness, leeroys got so much potential but his aero is so horrible.
Jake Combs - I think Leroy should preserved for posterity! Everything you suggest should be reflected in a clean-sheet Leroy II.
Jeffrey Reynolds I was thinking the exact same thing. Keep Leroy and build a second car with the soul purpose to be the new fastest stick shift.
Get dafuq over the Aero.. he will never put panels back on Leroy.
@@Republican_Extremest agree, but can he add some small parts to improve aero, like anosecone?
@critical glass+
Tell that to Jeff Lutz and his wagon. Or to Street Outlaws JJ DaBoss and his Chevy 3100 series pickup truck. Aero will give you mph, not necessarily ET.
I love how humble Cleetus is.
Ben Lee - and patient on the line...! Take a DEEP breath Cleetus...
I've noticed Leroy slamming down when launching followed by the tire spin. If He softens more He'll probably damage parts.
@@danielrowe2174 Then more suspension travel to start and slow down how quickly the suspension tries to lift the rear back up after launching. It could just be a limitation of the Corvette springs but the tire being oblong and wobbly is causing the rear to float.
Yeah I was goin to say crank the coilovers up a little to lift the rear end some and stiffen the rebound

That intro was insane!! Def stepping it up
They need to get him to quit bucking at the launch and get it stabilized (Leroy that is).
Exactly.

Time to put billet everything for Leroy's engine
It's time they work on getting the front half dialed in. They're not able to use the power they have.
@@southjerseysound7340 that and some carbon fiber panels
I'm sure Cleetus would let you pay for it too
Nah, they got to 8.0 by throwing power at it, with power left over to spare -- there's a reason he has such a problem spinning at launch. They need to get the suspension and tire pressures dialed in so that they can actually get the power to the ground and run a straight damn line.
How can there possibly be PAPER whipping around the interior of Leroy... EVERY single pass !!
It is probably all of the old 8.0 time slips!
He gets a new piece of paper every pass.

I fully believe that lack of aero is holding you back.
It's a brick with a motor.
A huge motor lol
Yeah when you're running 200mph 1/4 cars unless the DA is crazy thin... it's a huge huge problem
He went 7.8x with the old motor and same aero, the car just doesn't go straight. I bet he'd lower his ET if the car went straight. I also think there is something going on with the tune in 3rd/4th, because the motor sounds a lot less angry than 1st/2nd.
Leroy could probably use a nose a roof and some side panels. Who is good with carbon fiber? Hook it up!
Sounds dumb, but I think the E-brake handle needs a spring. The G's from Leroy's launch could cause the back brakes to drag.
Line lock setup uses a solenoid so I don’t think without that button being pressed that handle works like a conventional e-brake. I always see his thumb on that red button when staging
@@s_wggns the button is 2 step
It only moves back enough to take out the slack in the hinges. There’s no way it’s putting any actual pressure through the system
@Damien Doisher I doubt that, nowadays you can set your 2step limiter and just mat the pedal and it will hold at that RPM, that button I'm more than certain is a "line lock" and that helps him bring the car up to boost when staging.
@@s_wggns no sir, that's what his staging break is for. That button is 2 step

Can you hear my HELL YA BROTHER! From up here in Canada?? Woohoo!!!
Haha Osta!
That aero just needs to improve somewhere, everyone pulling consistent 7s has some good aero for the race.
bobouistic believe it or not aero isn’t the thing holding him back. He’s only losing some hp to it and not the whole way down the track. Honestly it’s his 60ft times and first half needs to get better. Remember he turned it all the way up to run 7s last time he has not done that yet at all since.
Zeth Loveless yeah he went full send on a bad engine, and he’s not full sending on a good one.
Who else thinks it’s time to turn the rebound down on those shocks
!!
