    In this video: communications during an IFR departure from startup at the gate, until cruising level.
    By watching this video you will learn the basic phraseology that's being used during an IFR departure while flying an airliner from A to B. Remember, this is an example flight in Europe. The phraseology might be slightly different in your country/continent.

      I am asking about streaming in respect of the Pilot Edge air traffic control utility? Is streaming involved with regard to Pilot Edge use? Does Pilot Edge have a fully functional ACARS? Would you see visually other traffic on your computer monitor/ screen and on your airplane's TACAS vsi instrument when on or using Pilot Edge? I ask if streaming is involved as there must be some kind of screen capture software working on all participants computers to record each airplane's position on the built-in database map of the flight simulator program that it may be displayed to other aircraft traffic within the Pilot Edge air traffic control system. How is other traffic determined and hence displayed to participant traffic on Pilot Edge if streaming is not involved?

  • @huntercase244
    @huntercase244 6 лет назад +21

    The first difference I noticed was in the clearance. in America we say "Kennedy Clearance, AAL2023 is ready for clearance" then the controller will reply "AAL2023, Kennedy Clearance cleared to the Boston airport as filed climb and maintain 10,000 expect FL320 10 mins after departure push and start at your discretion. Expect runway 13R, squawk 1320 contract ground 121.9 cya" the piolt will reply "AAL2023 cleared to Boston as filed Climb and maintain 10,000 expect Fl320 10 mins after departure ground on 121.9 have a good day"

    Hey thanks for posting this, it was pretty helpful. I had my first VFR flight on VATSIM last night, made a couple of mistakes, mostly on ground procedure, oops, and thought the controller said left downwind when he said crosswind, but the controller was patient and it wasn't a busy airport, but overall it was pretty enjoyable. The hardest part was pressing the push-to-talk button for the first time heh.

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  8 лет назад

      +NextGenPants You're welcome! :) Well, it's a good thing that you started at an airport that wasn't busy and luckily there was a polite air traffic controller online! :) And yes, that's the moment we all "fear", but once you've made the step it will be very easy! :)

      AviationPro I have a question: When you file a flight plan on VATSIM, do you need to do prior research on the airport's active runway to make sure there are no discrepancies between what the air traffic controller is telling you and what you have entered in your FMC? Or do you need to change your flight plane according to what the controller is telling you?

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  7 лет назад

      Your flight plan will contain a route with a start point and an end point which lead to SIDs and STARs respectively, this route should NOT include the SIDs and STARs yet. You do not have to include a SID and STAR in your flight plan yet, because you never know which one you will get.

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  7 лет назад +59

      That's not a stupid question, because people mix them up quite often! :) Roger just means that you understood the transmission. Wilco stands for "Will comply", meaning you understand the transmission and you will execute the ATC instruction. Wilco is mainly used for small instructions that don't really require a full readback like "report ready for startup".

      QNH means "Query: Nautical Height" and indeed you need to change the altitude calibration this is done to ensure your altitude readout is correct for the area. After departure and you have climbed out of the area you will change it back. Hope it helps :)

    maybe a year ago or so, I got some info from the other flightsim network (IVAO) that now you only state your position, the ATIS info and then you request pushback. The ATC would then hand over your clearance and gives you permission for startup and pushback. I don't know if that's some kind of shortcut when not all ATC positions at the airfield are online or if it's the real procedure (can't really imagine the delivery giving you permission for startup)

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  8 лет назад

      +aviationFan5418 That really depends on the airport. At some small ones here in the Netherlands for example, you get your flight plan clearance while you're taxiing. That's why it's always wise to read the airport procedures first, but the way you see it happening in this video is most common, at least for the bigger airports (because they have to work with slot times etc.)

  • @Munky332
    @Munky332 7 лет назад

    what do you do if you are flying through airspace/sectors not currently being controlled? what if you are flying from a minor airport that usually has no clearance/ground/tower/departure controllers, but still wish to fly with Vatsim protocols?

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  7 лет назад +1

      You monitor UNICOM (122,800) while flying through uncontrolled airspace. At such airports you would just follow real world procedures and fly yourself. If a radar controller is online he could provide VFR information etc.

  • @35614bambam
    @35614bambam 7 лет назад +1

    Hi, how do you monitor Unicom and know when to tune into active frequencies

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  7 лет назад +1

      By tuning 122.800 in your communication radio. A controller will send you a contact me if you are entering his/her airspace. Alternatively, you could contact them yourself if you know you are about to enter their airspace.

    hi, how do you request a VFR clearance if you will arrive at the same airport, with going out of the CTR (like here in the video @03:15)? thx

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  8 лет назад

      +unclealig VFR flights (in Europe) usually don't get a flight plan clearance like this, usually just a start-up clearance with some extra information like the QNH and the altitude you should be flying at. The way this startup clearance looks like also depends a bit on the country and airport, but here's a good guide with some more info about VFR phraseology: www.atac.ca/web/images/Documents/Phraseology%20Guide%20for%20GA%20Pilot%20in%20Europe.pdf

    How do you find your frequency

  • @MaxBeckett
    @MaxBeckett 9 лет назад

    A point to add, you touched on briefly. If there is an incoming aircraft for example, you could be give a conditional taxi/clearance. This is where the controller would say: "LOT1364, behind the arriving Lufthansa A330, runway 25C, line up and wait behind." Fairly self explanatory but getting the RT perfect can be a challenge. Good vid by the way

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  9 лет назад

      Max Beckett Yes that's true. There is a lot of R/T that is not mentioned in this video and that would probably go beyond the scale of the P1 course. This just gives a basic idea of some of the communications involved from departure to arrival. All the other R/T can be learned through getting experience and doing additional reading. Thanks for watching, subscribing and commenting! :)

    • @MaxBeckett
      @MaxBeckett 9 лет назад

      +AviationPro agreed, it was only briefly mentioned in my P1 sessions (I did it though VATSIM UK) but it's useful to know for controller ratings and future ratings too. Keep up the good work

    Useful video as always nice that you fly 767 with Polish Lot livery. Now these great planes are being replaced with 787. In my opinion in Dreamliner cockpit there is to much screens I prefer mix of the analog instruments with electric ones just like on 767 and 757. Well the only exception is 777 in my opinion the best flight deck so far ;-)

    Hey AviationPro, which airport should I use for VATSIM? Like, should we download an AFCAD airport or the default airport or the payware ones?
    Which airport will the atc tell the taxiways? Im really confused about it.

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  7 лет назад

      It's best if you use an addon airport, which are usually more up-to-date than the default scenery. Payware is of course nice for the looks, but usually there are also freeware alternatives or AFCAD updates. The ATC will work with the present airport layout, so according to the latest charts. If you can't find an up-to-date scenery just try to locate yourself on the chart and determine what the taxiway letters and gate numbers around you are as if you were flying at the airport in the present layout.

    • @skipperfromppd2447
      @skipperfromppd2447 8 лет назад

      You ask clearance to controller that is in the lowest position. E.G. Center and App/Depp are online. You would ask App/Depp for clearance.

      You can fly any aircraft, as long as it is not a spaceshuttle or a hot air balloon and stuff like that.

    The first waypoint is SULUS why you say then 8G behind, and what is wilco??

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  7 лет назад +2

      Wilco = will comply. 8G is the identifier for the Standard Instrument Departure (SID), it's just a name for the SID. When this SID changes, they update the identifier, so then it becomes SULUS 9G for example.

      Also, if an aircraft on your frequency is only on text, can you read his communications with ATC?

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  8 лет назад

      I usually use my laptop for that. It runs squawkbox so I can see what air traffic controller are online, or by using servinfo for example. And yes, as long as you are tuned in on the active frequency, you can also see text messages from other pilots in your pilot client.

    Noticed one thing missing, when tower gives you clearance to depart with wind direction and speed, they will also verify altimeter setting as in LOT123 wind 210 at 10 gusting to 15 altimeter 349 cleared for takeoff.

    • @KriVaDesign
      @KriVaDesign 7 лет назад

      Not sure whether this is the case everywhere, but where I work, the Pressure setting is given with the taxi clearance. The AIR/TWR controller only specifies it if it changed in the time between being given the taxi clearance, and the actual take-off clearance.

    • @AviationPro

      SULUS is the name of a waypoint. Waypoints have names which generally don't mean anything. In this case SULUS is the first waypoint of a Standard Instrument Departure (SID)! :)

    • @AviationPro

      Thanks! It's the identifying letter of the current ATIS information. When the ATIS changes, the letter is updated as well so that you can be sure that you have the latest airport and weather information.

    Great video but what does the controller say when you're being handed off into non controlled airspace? Just tune to Unicom?

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  7 лет назад

      Yes, the controller will tell you to monitor UNICOM on 122,800. Some controllers might just say "frequency change approved" implying that you switch to UNICOM yourself.

      It's a network. You connect with your flight simulator (like FS2004, FSX or Prepar3D) to this network so that ATC can see you and you can see other pilots.

      +patrik streng No, you will see people regardless what type of flight simulator they are using. That is what makes this "game" so unique: different simulators (Xplane, FSX, Prepar3D etc.) can be used to connect to and fly on the same network :)

      Then you look at the wind direction in the METAR to determine the active runway yourself, or request the controller info if a controller is online, because in their description then they usually state the active runway.
