I know this is probably an old post but this was very helpful bro. Ive been plagued with gas rc issues and still am but i tried a couple of these tips and works a lil better now but i still have no consistency as far as having my engines start reliably everytime. Theres always some issue every coupl etimes i go out to run. mostly failure to start. Thx
Glad to hear that I was able to help ya out! If she wont start after running for a while, check the primer bulb. If she's empty then shes running lean and the fuel is boiling before making it to the engine. Let her cool off then richen the needles and run her again. If the plug is wet after running, then put a new plug in and lean the needles. It's like a give or take relationship. LOL
@@CrucialRC I followed ur vid and my 1107 Carb starts right away but Im having a hell of a time with my engine that has the 990 Carb on it. Its intermittent sometimes itll start and run at other times it wont. Ive change out everything. Coil, Spark plug, etc. but it seems like its not sparking. ive gap it correctly changed out the push buttoin killswitch. I even removed the SuperBee killswitch to rule that out but im still getting intermiitent results. You seem to know what ur doing LOL. Any suggestions??
@@pdiddy8509 seems like you've covered all the electrical bases. You sure its not fuel related issues? Stock settings on carb? Primer bulb full when trying to start? Fuel lines on the right way? Gotta check all the elementary stuff 1st. Good luck!
@@CrucialRC Nope. Not fuel related as far as i can tell. fresh fuel mixture. Runs fine one day then wont start the next or sometimes wont start after running the same day. Weird. I think its electrical but i cant isolate it. yes Ive checked all fuel lines, filter and set carb back to default settings but it stiil exibits same weird symptoms. I have a new knock off 990 carb i ordered from ebay that i thought was a walbro im gonna install see if that solves the problem although i still think the problem is electrical.
I'm a little stumped bro. Did you use a genuine zenoah coil when you replaced it? If so I guess just make sure all your connections are tight. I always crimp down on my coil connections to make sure they are nice and tight when I put on the killswitch. To me it seems as though they are always a little too loose for my liking.
My RC cars with a 990 carb are a b*tch to start in the winter time. I think I'm going to switch them all over to a 1107. I've heard good things about the 1107 anyways, they have a slightly larger air intake also! Nice video of your starting techniques. Very interesting stuff :)
Yeah the 1107 is easier to start but both are great carbs. Most of my big blocks don't have primer bulbs or choke so im used to it. Thanks for watching!
So the 1107 has choke and primer and you used both to make starting easy. The 990 has no choke or no bulb? I noticed you didn’t use either and still started using slow pulls method. Thanks!
It's actually called the purge bulb. It's only function is to purge the fuel lines of air. The slow pulls on the 990 pulls fuel into the cylinder via vacuum. I'm sure I purged the lines on the 990 before the slow pulls. Maybe I edited it out? Lol I can't remember. That was a long time ago. I'm making videos now on how to start a 2 stroke. Keep an eye out and thanks for commenting.
I've heard bad things about the TR pullstart so I never tried one. To be honest, I don't even use the FID anymore since I put a big block on my vekta. A regular pullstart does well for me. No, the FID will not work on a big block engine, Ryan.
Oh hell yeah, I love watching these start! I'm curious now if my stock 668 carb would be easier to deal with than a modded 990? I have to say once the model is running a 990 kicks ass! But I never gave the 668 a single chance! Maybe I should just to try it!
Thanks Doug. There's a lot of mistakes people make when trying to start the 990, but its not that difficult. Now the FID is crazy easy to use. I wonder how it would work with the 990 tho??
Hi mate, have you tried the FID pullstart with a 990 carb, and how is it holding up. Have you ever used the Turtle v2 pullstart? I'm tossing up on which one to get for my OBR full mod reed engine with a 990 carb
I have the TR pull start V2 in my OBR full mod reed in my Vekta. It sucks, requires regular maintenance, spring has broken twice. The dog legs wear pretty quickly and need to be shimmed. Consequently that's what brought me to this video. I'm tired of messing with it.

Carbs don't cost that much and it doesn't take long to swap out. Give it a try👍🏾

Fid pull start? Ebay sells them brand new www.ebay.com/itm/201709617923
@@CrucialRC yes but is there tracking of the package? Did you had a tracking number when u ordered yours?

Now that's what you call an easy start, not that Rovan 20 pulls lasting head ass 🤣🤣 anyways, great video as always Crucial 🤘
