    ℹ️About the episode:
We've had 5 RVs in 4 years. I guess that's not normal, but we've also produced 272 videos about RVing which isn't normal either! One of the reasons we change RVs so quickly is to expand our experience so we're able to share and to keep us in "learning mode". With all this RV changing, we've been getting countless emails on how to pick the right RV and how not to lose money. In this video, we share how to pick the RV that's right for you, how to mitigate depreciation, RV warranties and more!

Today is Tricia's birthday so we're going out! A couple more how-to-ish videos and then we pick-up the new rig and prepare for 7 months on the road. So many great places to see this year! We're looking forward to hitting the road again and getting back into a rhythm of travel and releasing travel videos!
Many have asked if the COVID-19 has changed our travel plans. The short answer is yes. But one of the lessons fulltime RVing teaches us to remain flexible. Our plans are always changing due to forest fires, closed freeways, low bridges, family needs and more. That is just part of life.
We know from past events that "this too shall pass" and in the meantime, we remain cautious, healthy and flexible. Perhaps RV travel is the best way to get out during this time, but it's important to be self-contained and self-reliant and perhaps not too far from home should medical attention be required.

I think it would have been more fair had you mention that depreciation on your rigs was likely protected by the upgrades that you did. Some of which I assume were not out of pocket expenses. Not judging you for the free products you recieved. Well deserved. Unlikely most KYD viewers would have access to those upgrades, thus not having the same protection from depreciation.

    • @Dive-Bar-Casanova
      @Dive-Bar-Casanova 4 года назад +1

Upgrades just make a rig easier to sell. It's all blue book and condition of the vehicle. Nothing more will add to the value.

It's like selling a house. If you put in 12k in hardwood floors your not going to get that back on the resale side. It will make the house more desirable and therefore easier to sell.

You are right and I too have no problem. I happened across their video when they got the Grand Ginger toyhauler and Marc said it was their strategy to minimize depreciation by leveraging the free upgrades they got from their partners such as Battleborn. He said that way they could switch often and provide info to viewers. I enjoy the results.

0:55 "How passionate people are about the rig that they have, and their agenda to get you to have the rig that they have." I find this to be very true about a great many things, I attribute it to that fact that everyone of us has some level of repressed buyers remorse, and if one can "score points" (so to speak) about why their decision was better, then the less remorseful they feel. It is AMAZING what you can learn if you don't have buyer's remorse when listening to other RVers on RUclips.

So I'm in my last rv and I pray I have a few years to enjoy but depreciation won't even come into my head as I will have the memories that money can't buy and hopefully I will be able to share the remainder of my raving time with a friend that will be there t to be with me and the excitement of seeing this wonderful country. I started out tent camping in my younger days. In my middle 20's I bought a 16' toy hauler for my motorcycle. At thirty i bought a 40' class A motorcoach and pulled my toy hauler. At forty I bought a 45' Motorcoach and a trailer for my toy's. When I retired at 45 I bought a 45' Cornerstone motorcoach and a 24' stacker trailer and just last year I bought a 45' Renegade Ikon and kept my stacker trailer and I love it. My brother uses the Cornerstone and I travel most of the time with a group of fat old retired police officer. Did I do everything the right way, No! Did it cost me more money than it should have, Yes! I don't care now because I have enjoyed everything about traveling with family and friends as well as meeting great people.
Keep the rubber on the road.
God bless to all and safe travels to all.

We lucked out buying a lightly used 4 year old 5th wheel as our first rig--excellent shape, good price and local to us! On RV Trader, which is a good resource. We have only taken it out once, and will be going more in the coming months and years. So excited, but still nervous. I think the Teardrop is a sweet little camper-for weekend trips, but I see where it would get old real fast for long term. So good... Another educational video full of money-saving suggestions. Before I buy any large-ticket item, no matter how much I am in love with it, I ask myself, "Sweet, but, how hard will it be to sell." My approach when looking for my little toy hauler was similar to your suggestions; after narrowing down my preferences to 3 or 4 brands, I patiently watched rvtrader and craigslist to see how many are for sale, average time on market, and monitored relevant forums for recurring comments from owners about problems. For my purpose at the time, I decided on a brand that might prove to be an exception to the rule of, "Buying stuff is easy... Selling stuff is hard." In my case, it took little more than 12 months to find the right unit for me, and in the last 2 years, I've had 3 people leave a note crammed in the door asking if I have an interest in selling it. Of course, they might have only offered me $100 :-)
Looking forward to the new rig reveal. Happy Birthday, Tricia!!

Exactly right. It's like the Jeep is great, ( and would make a great tow behind) but the Expedition trailer? Maybe it's not for us. Ha! One and done!
I myself own an expedition Jeep, and a expedition trailer BRX completely outfitted. And that works perfect for me.
And happy birthday Trish! How's it feel to be 28 again.?

    First off...Happy Birthday Tricia!
So we are currently living full time in our 41 foot bunkhouse. Purchased it used back in 2016. Original owners lived in it for a year but out grew it. It sat for a year in a construction yard before we purchased it. It was never put in the road after it's original purchase. We found out about "debugging" while driving in northern Arizona when I noticed the fender trip falling apart. That I-40 in Arizona was brutal. Other things came up as well along the trip. Needless to say, the initial "wring out trip" is very important. I had to reenforce the drawer bottoms, upgrade the tires and a host of other items to make it safe and sound for travel. We did purchase it for about half of the book retail value which was awesome!

I understand from talking to several RV dealers that because of this Chinese Viruse, that alot of RVs are being sold because of it. Makes me wonder about overcrowding at RV parks and on the roads. It may create an influx of used RVs in the future when all this national BS gets figured out.

We just bought a Gulfstream Vintage Cruiser 17RWD a few months ago and we're finally getting around to going on our first trip in April, coronavirus notwithstanding. I've used the time in between to install Maxxair vent covers, a digital thermostat and several other minor upgrades. Unfortunately, we're already looking at moving up to a bigger trailer. Lol.

We bought the first RV we looked at. Regrets?? Yes and No Looking back wish we would have did more research and didn’t take the sales man word when we asked if we had the right truck for our rig. After our first trip we had some major concerns and went back to the dealer and another sales man basically said well you should upgrade your truck to pull that trailer so another $40k later we’re back on the road. Now I won’t blame the sales man but I will say do homework look around. Read and watch reviews go to rv shows watch videos like KYD I wish I would have but the memories so far are worth any mistake I may have made

I watched your video today with anticipation. I am curious why, in your description of how to sell an RV you, as a RUclips creator, failed to mention the value of making a sales video. It only costs about $4 more on RV Trader to post a video. If a picture is worth a thousand words, than a video is worth a thousand pictures. The video not only conveys the RV that you're selling but also gives you the opportunity to sell the potential emotions of owning that rig in the environments that have brought you joy with it.
I also laughed when I heard you use the terms "RV" and "great quality" in the same sentence :-) Also in your list of the costs of ownership, you did not list the substantial costs of upgrades. There are also those who might disagree with the start small recommendation (especially in the boating community). Do you actually know anybody who did not find they needed a larger space in a short amount of time. After doing all the research on the videos mentioned below I discovered that if we had just bought the larger 3/4 ton truck in the beginning we could have saved about $75K in trucks and campers down the road :-)
I also think that you would enjoy the last two videos we've posted ... The Story of Travels with Yoly - Part 1 and 2. Eleven campers in 10 years (and 4 trucks) and some I'll bet you didn't know existed :-)

I got my 26' Coleman trailer new as an advertised loss leader to get folks into the dealership. I could barely get a salesman to talk to me since I wasn't buying a $200k diesel pusher, but I did it!!! I'm a solo full-time RV'er and I love it....By-the-way, I can usually fix most anything that breaks on my tow-able RV and I've had to over the years owning different trailers. HOWEVER......big diesel pushers are very complicated rigs with computer controlled systems that takes a real service technician to diagnose and repair. My X and I had a 40' pusher that when it went into the shop it was usually $300 - $800 repair bill. Hell, to change the oil on the Caterpillar engine was $300+ ...... the radiator on this thing was gigantic and cost us $1800 to service. -Just saying
    Cheers!

Internet deal that nobody told me about when I was at the dealership but we happened to look online just before we left and it was a significant discount. We go it...told them to pound salt on the warranties and we got a great deal. Love the rig...no issues since we picked it up June of 2018.

Would anybody know how I can sell my van? Recently, I have had some life changes & cannot use the van. I have a 2022 Ram Pro Master fully converted camper van with the works (17k miles): hot water shower, AC, heater, 400 amp hours lithium, 300watts solar, fridge, induction stove stop etc., etc. Dealerships won't buy the van b/c any potential buyer won't be able to finance it through a bank. I am not looking to make a dime off the sale - only trying to re-coup what I paid for the van/conversion. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Happy travels. 😁

I've been RVing since 1990. I've had class As, B's, C's, straight tagalongs, tagalongs with push outs tagalongs one slide 2 slides straight fifth wheels and fifth wheels with 1,. 2, and 3 slides . I've been living in campers full time in New England since 1992 . I personally like a tagalong 32' single slide bunkhouse . The bunkhouse is nice for full time camping because the bunkhouse gives you the option of storing your winter clothing during the summer and your summer clothing during the winter . Also they're easy to tow and you always have a couple comfortable.spots for overnight guests if the need presents itself . Also new construction technology provides easy towing, underbelly heating, to keep the floors warm, and your tanks from freezing . Don't forget to grab a thermostatiçly controlled Blue flame heater and a dehumidifier for the winters in New England .

After 12 years with a pop up we got a hybrid 2 years ago come April 31. We decided we would like to go to s fully hard sided travel trailer since it invariably rains at least once every trip and it's usually the night before you leave or the morning you are packing up to leave do you then have to be able to open again for it to dry out when you get home. We also had a couple other reasons. Have been looking at the new GD Transcend floorplan 245RL. May have to delay because we still owe fair amount on the hybrid and can't afford to pay on two since no one wants to pay fair price on it. I also think we paid way too much for it since we had no idea what were doing when we bought it. Live and learn. Hopefully will join you in the Grand Design fraternity still someday.

Great video for newbies for sure. We have owned several trailers and 5th wheels over the years, will never be a perfect unit, always something need to be done to make it perfect. The best time to buy new is the fall after the main season ends, ie after labor day weekend. October for example the new models come in anc just like cars a dealer wants to move the current model year. Also that works for timing on used as well as a person is motivated if they are storing it. Helps greatly with covering depreciation. Safe travels!
