I love your channel and you’re advice. I lost my husband 5 years ago to cancer. Since then I have tried to experience life differently. I learned we are not guaranteed anything. Saying that, for the last 3 years I have wanted to hit the road. Now, I know I want an Airstream Basecamp 20x. I’m putting things in order to be able to move forward with this journey. I’ve never pulled ANYTHING, I’ve never dealt with an RV, I’ve really never camped, but in my heart I know this is what I want and that I can do this. My husband told me before he died “ you are strong and you can do anything and don’t forget it when I’m gone”. I will be a solo female with the occasional son and girlfriend hoping on board. Thank you for giving me the push that I can do this! I know I will make mistakes but I will learn.

We are camping next to a solo female, 50+ something year young woman right now. You CAN do it. You WILL learn. The camping community is VERY helpful. If you need help with anything men and women WILL and WANT to help, all you need to do is ask. You probably won’t even need to ask most times if I see someone struggling, I will offer help. God bless, enjoy your journey.

Congrats on your decision to hit the road and believing in yourself! I lost my husband 18 months ago and prior to his death we had a dream to get an RV and tour the country in the summers with our teenage daughter before she leaves the nest. As Trish says "we only get 18 years with our kids" which is what propelled the dream that my husband and I had for our little family. With the desire to fulfill the dream and countless hours of watching KYD videos, I purchased a 25 foot class C motorhome and my 15 year old daughter and I hit the road last summer. We traveled to 15 states in 5 weeks and I'm currently writing this on the last night of our six week/17 state "Summer to Remember" 2021 tour. The gems that Trish and Marc provide have been invaluable . Among the biggest have been to "go slow" (especially when setting up at a campsite), "mind the dip" and the RV community are truly the kindest and most helpful people around. Enjoy the journey and feel good about making your dream come true. Best wishes!

I could totally see Caleb doing a RUclips channel where he visits businesses & interviews them. (Ask them a gazillion questions.) Caleb has an engaging, charismatic personality that really works on camera. He is able to get others talking. He is able to compliment people, get them smiling, and they open up and talk to him. He could ask business owners how they help others, what works, what they've learned, etc.
A couple of shows that I love to watch Dirty Jobs & How it's Made are both formats that would work perfectly with his personality. 👍

Great video! Right after our house sold and we were headed to full time, I started to get scared. We even looked at a rental to stay. My husband made the comment “ if we don’t at least try we will never know. If we hate it and it all falls apart, we will just find a new house and go back.” So glad we jumped it has been an amazing experience! Calculated risks can have amazing payoffs! 🥰

Love the touching base about yourselves and all your kid's career ambitions; and providing more understanding behind the purchase of your new motorized BIRD as well as the other RVs you've evolved from and owned. Your guys' statements such as 1) "Start small, start now" and 2) "Sometimes dreams don't look pretty in reality but you're learning and growing from it" are REFRESHING POINTERS!! Well done KYD Husband & Wife Team!!

My wife and I have been discussing an RV for quite some time, we’re getting closer to a decision. There’s so much to consider; full/part time, keep/sell the house, motorhome/trailer, how much space do we need, what do we do with the stuff we don’t use every day, health concerns for two mid 60s persons who think they’re still in their 40s. The list is endless, but we’ll get there.

Right there in your age group. We got a small RV, she’s a Mini Winnie, 24’. I do the driving. I’ve watched RUclipss and learned a lot of how-to’s. It is doable. We are part timers. I’m heading out in a week to solo drive from SanDiego to Poulsbo, WA. My husband is still working only can do 10days of vacation. He will fly in/out. I’m not staying home and don’t seeing this beautiful country. Starting small and most likely will stay small. Just get started…..GO!

My husband and I are 60 and 58 with health issues as well. We sold the house, downsized considerably, moved to a 900 sq ft apartment (no yard or house to keep up) and maintain a 10x10 storage unit (we started with a 10 x15) and bought a used RV. For us, it was prioritizing the big issues and solving smaller ones along the way. We also realized we have to do things our way. Our trip to Acadia this summer probably didn’t include all the activities that the thirty or forty somethings did, but we got out there, had some great experiences and made some great memories! We plan to go full time in a couple years when I retire. Best to you both!

    • @hughwolfe1176
      @hughwolfe1176 3 года назад +2

@@lynnsmith2276 We’re both retired so that’s not a major issue. We could downsize a bit, although rentals in our area are typically more than what our mortgage is. Unfortunately we can’t afford to own a home and RV, and without an “exit plan” we’re hesitant to sell the house. I’m thinking a used class C or B+ would “jumpstart” our adventures. I’d really like it if a Jeep could be towed for local exploration.

I’ve been out twice now and the rving bug has now bit me harder. I’m currently trying to figure out a way to change careers to where I can work remotely and start traveling. Thank you so much for your inspiration and your how tos. It’s made starting a lot easier.

Love your videos. We, my wife and I, started using my parent's small Winnebago class B, Then we purchased my parent's 31' Pace Arrow from the estate. With that rig, we had 3 kids. That rig was totaled in a storm and we purchased a 33' Pace Arrow and we traveled every spring break and some summers. Kids numbered 4. We then wanted to do Yellowstone and upgraded to a 1999 36' Coachmen Santara. With 5 kids we needed the slide out. We came to the end of our RV travels about 3 years ago. We are not working on land in N. Minnesota for retirement. I love all the knowledge you are giving people. We learned so much in our time (1990-2018) All our rigs were 5-8 years old when we purchased and we ran them until we felt we could not make our trips without issues.

We didn't have a truck to pull it for our official 1st job "On the road" We had a Cousin pull it to our camp hosting job and found our 1st Pick Up truck 3 months into our first "Full time Rver's "Lifestyle." He was able to achieve his dream by going to our local state college and joining the AFROTC program there. He took flight lessons privately while in college and was able to solo before beginning his IFT with the Air Force. The flight experience he has will really help Carson if he's selected to fly. I know I have stated this before, but the comment is so applicable with this video. I started with a 17 foot travel trailer pulled by a minivan and 3 kids/wife (five people total, FIVE in 17 feet!). The memories we have are amazing! The RV is a tool, we spent most of our time outside doing things and cooked/slept inside. As I got more money, came a bigger tow vehicle, a bigger RV and then even bigger adventures. Using holidays and all my vacation, I now travel 50-60 days a year of pure bliss. Every year that goes by, I inch my wife closer and closer to full time when we go to retire.

What you said about only having 18 Summers with your kids really hit home, as many people don't realize how fast those years go. We lost one of our kids at age 13, and that was difficult. But we have the comfort of knowing that we made all 13 of those years/Summers count. I just wish that we had taken up RVing back in those days, as I think the bonding aspect is priceless. Travel safe and God bless.

My sister and I are about to buy our first travel trailer and go full time. We have never RVed but we take a cross country adventure in my Toyota Corolla multiple times during 2021 just for funsies!
Our plan is to take this adventure and save some cash so that we can find the right piece of land to build a generational property for our family.
    You are a great inspiration!!
PLEASE RE-start this “KyD 55” I'm 34 that have focused on clean living, and a former workaholic who was recently laid off and could use a good lifestyle challenge!
Y'all rock! Looking forward the adventure to come!!

It would be better to replace the 3208 cat and transmission with a combination from a late model wrecked bluebird bus. Even though your bus is analog and has a solid Powertrain, the later Cummins 6.7l is lighter and more powerful. The 2000 series Allison has a manual shifter or if you had a 3000 series Allison where the shifter is an electric push button, it can easily be configured to your bus.
I would not invest money in installing a turbo on the 3208 NA cat. The gain would not be that significant vs cost. The mechanical fuel pump would have to be upgraded along exhaust manifolds, injectors, not to mention cooling system and then the vector aka stall of the torque converter since the torque curve of the engine will change. I work in trucks and busses for a living. Just my input.

The engine will not last putting a turbo on it when the engine is at 100% load. Not sure if even replacing the engine would be good cause it will cost around 40k to do it. Plus you will now have emissions to deal with.. my best advice is to enjoy what you have.

      IT ALREADY HAS A TURBO!

Exactly- find a used motor/transmission combo. Or just sell and buy a coach with turbo Cummins.

Exactly, it is just below the engine controller in the picture of the engine. Maybe a stuck waste gate.

Thank you both for all you do! Jim.

Of all your rvs, I can honestly say that “The Bird” and the Airstream are my favorites and I sincerely hope you keep them and enjoy them. Both seem to have a depth of quality that is sorely lacking in so many new ones. If I were your age I would happily try either one, but at 76 I have determined I am more comfortable in a Travato KL. It allows me to use it as a daily driver, a weekender, or a cross country traveler without too much stress.

My wife and I love and enjoy your videos every week. She is also hearing impaired and use CC to understand what is being said. The last couples released videos have had unavailable subtitles. Is there any way to re-enable the auto/captions function to these videos?

I am caught up! I was introduced to your channel earlier this year (2021). We bough a truck and 5th wheel in the Spring and are weekend warriors until we retire in 6 years. then we are considering full-timing (with MUCH influence from you guys. I have watched every episode (with the exceptions of a couple of mechanical episodes...sorry Marc). Trish, I have been on a health journey for 20 years and love to eat clean. My cookbook and spices are on the way. Can't WAIT!! My hubs doesn't watch you, but he hears me say" Well, this is what Marc and Trish did." I have loved watching the kids grow up. I love how you have empowered them to move forward in life. You are positive, inspiring, healthy, wholesome. Love you guys and hope to get to meet you someday. Yes, Marc, we'd definitely love a real estate video!

Ditto on all the comments here.
I stopped my little brain exercises. I get it from actually keeping up with your rapid delivery and comprehending it all! Amazing energy you have. Holy cow! Your interactions are like watching a pro ping pong tournament! As a senior traveling solo in the snowbird season, you have given me less to worry about and the courage to just go and enjoy every moment. After 5 weeks on the road I grew lonely (not typical). I am going to concentrate on having downtime goals instead of only highpoint ones. More writing, more audio books. More FaceTime with loved ones. More making friends and opening myself up to that. I'm a loner because of letdowns by people I gave 110% to.
You give people a lot to think about in terms of getting into and on with life. Well, on with in my case.

For starters I want to say that I am happy for all of you and the success your channel has brought to you and the ability to to so much with so many things. Wish you much more and happy days. With that said, this is the exact reason I stopped watching your channel over a year ago. You still pop up on my suggested videos because I still watch other RV channels. Even though I am happy for your success, I don't think it's reflective of the average full timer or even the weekend warriors. The rapid change in campers accompanied by all the gadgets that you receive from sponsors, most people couldn't dream of doing all of that. I am sure many people appreciate any reviews of products that you do use, fact of the matter is, I feel your channel is more of a new item review informative show. Whereas the average people will have their RVs for 5, 10 or 20 years, some maybe longer. Those are the people that long term full timers get the real issues resolved from extended use of their RV. Your reports on issues you've encountered are appreciated but when you're in an RV for less then a year, more than likely what you experienced were manufacturing flaws or short cuts come to light. It's not possible to address long term wear and tear/maintenance issues and fixes when you're trading in before you need to change tires.
Since I'm a full timer and been so going on 5 years now with the same rig, I tend to watch other shows and get more out of them where yours is more of a travel show that highlights new items all the time.
To close, I am happy for your success and ability to do such things and the draw new owners have to your channel. It's a great recruiting show for sure that welcomes people into the community and let's them know all the new items on the market every 10 months or so. I wish you all the best and prolonged success and happiness in your travels.

Your videos helped us to “start with what we have” rather than waiting until I retire in two years. Last spring we purchased a used Imagine 2250 RK and spent every free moment during that spring summer and fall camping to see if this was really what we wanted to do. We loved it and a year later we upgraded our truck, traded the imagine for a Momentum 25G. We truly loved our imagine, but quickly found that it could not provide what we needed. As you say, it wasn’t serving us, we were working too hard for it! But, the imagine taught us so much. Thanks for your videos - they helped get us out there. This summer, we took a month long trip to Acadia. It was amazing! I don’t know if that would have happened (not as soon for sure) or been as successful without the tips and advice we picked up from watching your videos. Thank you!

Recently found your channel and also became an E3Camping member. I recently became a widow at age 70 and my husband was never interested in camping so it's something we never did. I camped a lot in past decades before I met my husband, especially with my daughter when she was young. LSS, I bought a Coachmen Class C because I did not want a towable RV. This coming Monday, I will head out for first trip but am staying in the Thumb of Michigan where I live, but plan to go south for the winter for January-March period with my 2 little dogs. Thanks for inspiration and words of wisdom.

    Great episode!
Lots of questions we had are now answered-thanks!
Travel has been an evolution for me and I appreciate the info you’re providing.
From tent camping off a Harley, to, fixing up a vintage airstream-still in progress. Switching gears to get out there by camping out of a pickup with a cap to explore hidden trails on a dual sport motorcycle. Then swapping the cap for a Four Wheel camper for more comfort in below zero temps and the ability to stand up and cook inside. Then selling that setup last summer to convert a 4x4 Sprinter with a home built interior and all the Battleborn/Victron goodies.
Variety can be a fun way to find what works for you!

Would have I changed anything? I think not knowing what the heck you are doing helped us do things we never would do again 😉 we left on our first dream trip only from watching RUclips videos. We somehow traveled from Florida to Colorado- driving our rig up 9,900 feet, over 10 to 15 miles of washboard roads to live there for three months. A day dream come true. Of course because we didn’t catch that video on trailer breaks on the way down the mountain, again remembering we didn’t know what we were doing, we came down that mountain smoking, very fortunate our breaks didn’t catch on fire. We now have stories!!! 🤣
