Modified Isuzu MU-X 4WD @ Conondale National Park - Mud, Creeks and Rocks!

- Hey Guys and Gals!
In this video i tackle an incredible track in Conondale National Park that follows a creek and weaves in and out of the creek bed.
I first completed this track about 6 or 7 years ago back when i had my suzuki jimny. I couldnt remember were this track was or find out any info about it since then. So todays challenge was to find that track and complete it. I used HEMA maps topographical maps app to scan the area and looked for tracks that followed a creek and i came across what i thought was the right track. After commencing the track i knew straight away that this was the one i had completed all those years ago in my jimny.
The track begins shortly after the Charlie Moreland Camping area. Just after you hit the dirt track there is a sign to turn right down towards the horse area. You turn right down this track and then instead of going right again to the horse area you go left and continue straight. This will then lead you onto the start of the track which begins with a shallow creek crossing.
Along the whole track you are constantly driving through changing scenery. From crystal clear creeks to thick rain forest it is definitely an impressive part of the country.
The track covers lots of water crossings and would most likely be closed and impossibly to pass in the rain of during flooding. The whole area surrounding the creek is rain forest and i can imagine in the wet the red clay in the hills would turn even the best mud tyres to slicks.
The Isuzu MU-X tackled all these tracks with ease. I reduced the tyre pressures to 20PSI as soon as i hit the dirt roads. It makes it alot comfier and when you get to the harder stuff your ready to go.
The 3.0L turbo diesel engine paired with a 6 speed automatic transmission makes the MU-X very good in all off-road situations.
The MU-X is running a 2 inch outback Armour lift kit with 17x8.5 Fuel Offroad rims wrapped with Atturo Trailblade M/T tyres in the size 265/70r17. I also use an Idrive throttle controller to improve the throttle response.
Thanks alot for watching guys! If you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up, comment and SUBSCRIBE for more videos related to the Isuzu MU-X and the build up : )

That mu-X has a lot of flex! It performed nicely even without diff locks
We explored the Conondale, Kennilworth, Imbil area over the Australia day long weekend. So many good tracks in the area to explore. Some good swimming holes aswell.
There sure are some cracking spots in those forestry areas! Ill definately be going back to explore a few other tracks i spotted on the HEMA maps 😁
by the way Mu X has the cleanest wheel well set up of all suvs' so easy to clean!
I agree! very easy to clean :D
Did that exact track about 4 weeks ago. The track was about 1 foot under water for most of the way. Great fun out there.
Hell yeah! You could see that it would flood pretty easy! Really cool track 😊
Never doubt about isuzu diesel engine..
Legend Nick. 👍👏👏
It makes the track too easy for your MUX now. Thank you for this excellent video.
Thanks alot T Yik, it is alot more capable now with the lift and tyres 😀
Looks good with lift. Nice little tracks
Thanks alot :D
Awesome build mate! More videos of u taking it on difficult tracks pls
There sure will be! Stay tuned 😊
ive always wondered who sets up your camera. lol.
as always, great vid!
Good stuff Nick, I bet it feels a lot different compared to the 80. Cheers Steve
Alot different! Still getting used to its size and everything 😊
Nice video Nick! I am looking at buying an MU-X but don't think I will do any modifications to it. How do you think a stock MU-X would have handled the more difficult spots in the video?
I think a standard mu-x would have bottomed out and hit the side steps on some of the trickier bits. They are still very good offroad standard for basic stuff and going up the beach etc. 😀
@@LowRangeNick I thought as much - not often I would want to attempt this stuff but maybe down the track I will look at upgrading. Mind if I ask a ballpark figure for the suspension/tyres?
@@hardstyledisco approx $3800. But that is with new rims and tyres and the full suspension kit. 😊
Nice work once again Nick. Do you think you'll be extending the diff and transfer case breathers in the near future? Might be an opportunity for you to make another good how to video for us noobs.
Heya! Yeah absolutely. I plan on fitting some soon and will do a video to help out others that are interested 😁
Hi Nick what happened to your snorkel mate?? By the way finally done some of glass house. Scratch some of my mux too bud. Bloody bugger. Lol still have hwy terrains
I didn't have it fitted yet in this video 😊
Oh o.k. that now makes sense bud lol. By the way if I see you around I'll say hi. Today went up Mt Nebo. Also what place would you recommend for an inverter installation. I'd like to get one
Hey Nick great vid. Mate just today I was in an Isuzu dealership looking at buying an MU X, the salesman said to me that the transfer doesn't have a lock in it like your conventional 4by's, how is it that your rig can go places like this with just a lift and tyres???
The salesman doesnt really understand how it works by the sounds. I think what he is trying to say is on full time 4wd vehicles they have a centre diff lock which locks a differential gear in the transfer to allow 50:50 drive to go to the front and rear. In the mux and dmax they are 2wd, 4wd and 4low selectable and have no need for a center diff lock, in the mux and dmax the change is done in the transfer case and front diff. So it is just a different system, but has 2wd, 4wd high and 4wd low selectability. 😊
Hey Nick. Good vid. I have a D-Max and keen to head up that way and try out the track. Just picked up my new AT tyres today and will also be getting some Fuel Vector wheels soon plus a lift kit. Was there much bush pin striping on your MU-X on that track?
Sounds like it will be a mint setup on your D-max! Bet you cant wait to get all the mods fitted! The track is pretty overgrown. I did get a fair bit of pin striping from this track. BUT luckily im good with the cut and polish, because all of the marks have come off 😋👍
nice trail, nice ride!
Hi,Nick, have been watching all of your videos about MUX and love them so much.Following the MUX for months but still can’t make decision either MY 14 /MY 15 PRADO or 2018MUX.Any recommendations for my first 4x4.Cheers
I was in the same boat a few 6 months ago! I was thinking the same thing. Slightly older prado or brand new mu-x. The 3.0 prados have issues with injectors and the 2.8l have dpf issues. The mu-x has no common issues and is generally extremely reliable and a brand new car over a few year old one for the same price. Thats why i chose the mu-x. Brand new, no common issues and very reliable. Theres always warranty if anything does ever go wrong. Hope thats helps with your decision 😁
LowRangeNick Thanks mate.Went to test driving both of them this morning, not much thinking about the Prado, but I find MUX make sounds like truck when it changing the first gear ,and it “calm down “when the speed up to 30.Not worry about that, just shocking me a little “whaaaaaat! Am I driving a truck “😂😂😂Anyway, have you ever thinking about Pajero Sports?
@@gabrielccicl1465 Thats great! Im not a huge mitsubishi fan so i didnt look at them 😊
LowRangeNick Ok,looking forward you will make more videos about MUX modification. Thanks for your help again.
@@LowRangeNick We did exactly the same move i November 2018. Sold our Land Rover Disco and went for a brand new mu-x vs a 2nd hand Prado. Took it to Moreton, travelled all around Qld for the summer holidays and never regretted once our choice (although still missing the driving of the Disco on long windy trips.
Im surprised you found as much water in that creek section as there was. It had been as dry as the proverbial Nuns........... up until a week a go. Nice one
Haha i know right! It was very dry when i was there. I was surprised there was any water left. Such an amazing area 👍
i hope isuzu can improve the steering, a bit heavy
you'd have earn't a cold one after walking that camera for all those shots! Well done mate, enjoyed it
Haha yep i sure did have a few bevvies that night cleaning the car 😂😂
Nice video, have you installed a 2.0 in. suspension lift kit in your ISUZU MU-X 4WD SUV? Can you please share the specifications, if you don't mind??????
Hi there, I have installed a 2 inch Outback Armour Suspension lift kit. It includes front lifted heavy duty struts and rear lifted coils and longer shock. You can check out the installation in my other video named -Isuzu Mu-X suspension install. Cheers 😊
just Like Every Boys Dream: Driving your Toy Car on to ROUGH TERRAINS.
Rad spot...Your tire deflators what brand are they and are they any good...👍🍺...
They are great! There the staun tyre deflators. I havnt set them up to a determined pressure. I usually just screw them all on and check the first one i put on untill its at the pressure i want. Then double check them all with a guage when i take the deflators off. Works really well 😊 Ive had them for over 7 years as well!
Thanks mate. Cheers...🤟...
Hi Nick. I got an old school 4b gq patrol but I must admit I been looking at the mux as an option. How u finding it? I'm more into touring these days than hard core . 👍
Heya! I realy like it. It gets great economy, its comfortable and has heaps of power and torque. Im the same, I have come from an old 80 series to the MU-X. Im more into touring to nice spots but still enjoying doing a few harder tracks every now and then. The Mu-X is perfect for what i wanted. Im really happy with it :D Id definately recommend taking one for a spin at the dealer and seeing what you think :)
@@LowRangeNick cheers thanks for reply 👍
@yusufaustralia Isuzu are one of the few manufacturers who arent having issues with DPFs and the emmisions control stuff like EGR etc. So there shouldnt be any issues :D
It was Good !!!
How have you found the mu-x after fitting the lift kit? What size wheels and tyres are you running mate.
Hey Scott! Its great having the extra clearance underneath. Its a little stiffer ride, but not bad. The wheels are 17x8.5 pos 7.4mm offset and 265/70r17 mud tyres 😊
It's all about momentum
Все посмотрел, но ничего невероятного не увидел. Природа красивая!
Have you had any CV issues on the Mu-X? Heard some people been having issues breaking them.
No issues yet 😊
That's every IFS ever built.
Mate it's people and not the vehicles problem, yes Isuzu have a bit of a weak front end.
I run a 2018 Dmax with BFG KO2 tyres, haven't broken a CV or bent a tie rod.
I pick my lines when 4wd, easy on the throttle.
And use the winch if I need to
Nice vid. What's the nav app you use on your phone?
Hi Kenji, i use HEMA explorer app for the offroad nav
looks like Hema Explorer
After your car rises, Did you change the up control arm and the track bar?
Hey Lu Li, there wasnt any need to change the upper control arms or the track bar with the 50mm lift kit. Cheers 😊
Very good work. I was waiting for this video .. You need other several things to make it of a road car .. Install Diff Lock like OX diff lockers or ARB lockers and upper basket and front support . Thanks for this video and for you professional photography.. we will waiting what up next from you 👍
It sure does need a few more things to make it the ultimate tourer! Rock sliders and bullbar are next on the list 😁
More MU-X vids bro.
Cheers man! Stay tuned, there will be lots coming up :D
Can you put a long range fuel tank in the MU-X?
You sure can, there is a few diffetent options 😊👍
Hi mate, did you put diff lock and what kind and brand, tnx
Heya! I havnt fitted a difflock yet. Just has the open standard diffs with traction controll at the moment. I will eventually be putting in an e locker in the rear though 😊
Just wondering, any Warranty issues with Isuzu?
Well she only has 10k on it at the moment. No issues yet :P
My question was really in regards to the tyre size change and suspension alteration from original spec and how this may effect your Isuzu warranty, thanks.@@LowRangeNick
@@normblyton6582 They wont warrant any issue that is caused by the suspension lift kit or the tyres. But its easy to slap the standard tyres back on during servicing or warranty repairs. Cheers :)
only if those items result in damage. no issues with most things tho. some people have had to escalate to Isuzu Australia but generally most people are happy.
Oh God, listen to that roar of the engine...
bahaha :P needs a straight through exhaust and DPF delete to get the turbo whistle going :P
Sounds like a tractor, tbh
@@StrikeFromTheSkies Well it is a truck engine 😂
Does the Mux have a centre diff? Are they locked? What was the increase in Tyre diameter? Also you never said how much higher it ended up with the suspension lift.
Hey there, it has 2wd, 4wd and 4Lo selector switch. When in 4wd the transfer is locked so there is no seperate center difflock. The tyre size increased by approx 1.6". The lift kit lifted the MU-X 50mm 😊👍
@@LowRangeNick Thank you. I'm trying to decide between Mux and Pajero Sport. Any thoughts?
@@ktmgirl01 2020 Pajero Sport coming towards end of the year so just wait for it. With new interior and exterior without the crying back lights :)
@@ktmgirl01 We loved the Pajero, but the mu-x has bigger interior space. We're a family of 4 with teenage boys and need the space when we go camping on week ends.
@@crespybenoit8313 I ended up buying a MUX.
How is it modified, tires?
2 inch outback Armour HD Suspension Lift Kit, 17x8.5" Fuel Offroad Rims, 265/70r17 Atturo Trailblade M/T tyres. Things you cant see - Custom rear drawer system, Idrive throttle controller, Dual Battery System with Redarc BCDC 1225D. Also the mad Red badge bahaha! If you want to see the other mods ive done you can check out my other videos on the build up. Cheers :D
How is the off road capability of the modified MUX?
Pretty good so far :)
They are fantastic vehicle. Their only limiting factor is lack of a rear diff lock.
@@blackers10 Im going to fit an e locker to the rear eventually 😊😊😊
@@LowRangeNick Show off haha!
Geez it's dry in there. Its heaps more fun in the wet
Yeah it was fairly dry! Would be awesome with a bit more water 😁
@@LowRangeNick mate it is!!! That last climb to the top of the ridge I almost made it all the way. Just that last little bit stopped me. Very slippery. Was fun going all the way back though 👍
What modifications have you made to it?

Mudflap mod 👍
😂😂😂 There was 2 then there was 1. I was trying to video a section and stupidly didnt hit record. I then tried to reverse through it and ripped the mud flap off haha luckily was easy to refit and there wasnt any damage 😂😂😂
Get some chain on there for extra bush cred!
