I like how Gaster’s face is just a flame. He is a forgotten memory. No one actually knows what his face looks like, because the core made everyone forget who he was. These details make this comic so much better.

It took me way to long to realize that those flames are the same ones that are used by the "Lost Souls" in the true pacifist ending when the main characters forgot about about almost everything
Edit: technically in that state they where in the same state as gaster when he fell into the lava. Just in the void outside of their universe so this actually directly connects to gaster.

When gaster is remembered in the void he loses that flame effects.
Another really nice touch is when papyrus draws a picture of Him, sans, and gaster, you can kinda tell what gaster looks like from the picture

Maybe this is too personal. This is strangely accurate to how child abuse feels. The lack of power. The control. The resilience. Even the empathy for gaster.
This is exactly how I’ve always felt. This thought still sticks with me all these years later, even now that I’m away from the situation that caused those feelings.
As a kid, I always saw Handplates as a mirror for how I felt about an awful situation I couldn’t control or escape from, and it’s so interesting how many others felt the same way!

7:51 After watching all the seasons of Handplates, I finally understand why Gaster specifically said how he enhanced their aging so they didn’t look like children. He KNEW he had to unethically torture them, and didn’t wanna have to deal with torturing literal children. Yet, that backfired as we know, they are technically children, even if their aging is enhanced.

I’m pretty sure Zarla said that Gaster got it as a gift for Asgore, right before Asriel and Chara died. So, it might seem a bit disrespectful to give it to Asgore now. So Gaster just kept the mug himself and wrote scientist over dad. I’m pretty sure Zarla posted this themself on their tumblr, but I could be misremembering or it could be like a headcannon or something, it’s stuck with me for years tho and now I have an excuse to tell someone lol

yeah, when it finished i didn’t know what to do with myself…. i had started reading it closer to the end then some who were there in the first few pages, but still, i had gotten into the habit of checking on the comic every day to week.

idk if i'm reading things wrong but i think papyrus is heavily autism/neurodivergent coded in this comic and i think it slaps.
"He's not dumb, you just don't get how he thinks" is SUCH a good line to describe autism. This comic is so well written and for why
I just noticed that papyrus responds "YOU BETTER" to sans': "ill let you know next time I pass out for no reason". He doesn't understand sarcasm.

I thought that too, I’m pretty sure in the games he’s neurodivergent coded as well so that could be a reason.
I have autism myself, and it also explains how papyrus acts with puzzles; take junior jumble, for example.
A word scramble would be easier for an autistic brain, as we generally use our right brains more often than non-autistic people. A crossword would be geniunely more challenging to an autistic person to a person without autism, who uses the left brain more often.

The fact that anybody could make people cry and feel sad over some skeletons is such great writing, because honestly, for me at least, it is a lot harder to view something that's normally *not* supposed to be visible and see it as something with feelings and something to feel sad about when seeing it get hurt. Good job. Also, the voice acting, AMAZING.
After this, all I have to say is that I have a lot of respect for Sans's sarcasm.

it's so interesting to see this dubbed, 'cause when i read it myself, my brain gave gaster an entirely different tone.
in my head, he was more... purposefully detached. a scientist, certainly, but a man as well. intentionally cold and clinical, keeping conscious distance from his test subjects, but the occasional tendency to slip up.
seeing this interpretation is putting him in a whole new light. he feels... he feels rougher. crueler. impatient, and hot-headed. it's really fascinating.
I really like the slow change of Gaster's voice from aggressive and defensive at the beginning, to calm and mysterious towards the middle of it. Yet he still slips into his aggressive tune, whenever he is mad at someone.
I don't know, if that's a hint, that Gaster is softening up towards Sans and Papyrus, but either way, it's an awesome job of his voice actor!

Watching this again in 2023 and I must admit this is still my favorite storyline and version of Gaster's character. Morally grey, and willing to do anything to free his kind from the entrapments of the barrier, and from the underground tomb they've been trapped in for so long.

I love that Gaster is an uppercase Comic Sans who’s native tongue is supposedly Wingdings.
Papyrus inherited the uppercase trait while Sans inherited the font.
Personally I absolutely adore the fact that Asgore treats Gaster like his own child rather than his scientist

36:00 this is a perfect example of why I like this comic dub even years after I grew out of my undertale phase. This is just good plot character development for gaster. I also just feel bad that papyrus is always at the end of the sans punishments since he can't afford to physically hurt him
When Sans said "You just don't understand his way of thinking" that honestly was pretty validating for my ADHD. Papyrus is not dumb. He just thinks differently from the emotionless husk that is Gaster

I am not able to solve most puzzles because they are made by people who think differently. I like solving them, its just that I cant, most times. I really relate to papyrus a lot in that regard. ( Edit ) gaster made sans and papa after asriel and chara, because in the story asgore already had some humans souls I think the store shop lady wasn’t mentioning the kids but Im still very unclear and sure about who she was mentioning. ( we have something’s in common loll 😌)
