This is exactly how I’ve always felt. This thought still sticks with me all these years later, even now that I’m away from the situation that caused those feelings. As a kid, I always saw Handplates as a mirror for how I felt about an awful situation I couldn’t control or escape from, and it’s so interesting how many others felt the same way! I decided to rewatch the whole dub because the series officially ended (zarla published the last comic strip just a few days ago), after accommpaining me for the last 7 years. Such a wonderfully written story, and such a great dub.
yeah, when it finished i didn’t know what to do with myself…. i had started reading it closer to the end then some who were there in the first few pages, but still, i had gotten into the habit of checking on the comic every day to week.
41:01 is probably my favorite line. Just, him fully realizing he's hurting these kids and still not doing anything about it. I come back to this comic year after year because it's just so goddamn good. It's The voice acting, the art, all of it is just Ɛ>

Warning spoilers in the released comics (NOT REALEASED VIDEOS) When gaster is remembered in the void he loses that flame effects.

Gaster's character is so interesting. He struggles with seeing Sans and Paps as children because that would conflict with the morality of the situation. He shuts out his friends because he's afraid of what they might think, to have what are essentially children in his basement as lab rats. He knows what he is doing is wrong but carries on for his people. When asked the question of "If you could save five people by killing one, do you do nothing with no blood on your hands or do you murder to save?" Gaster chooses the latter.

First time I've ever returned to the UT universe without a new chapter or official content. I woke up and remembered this series, so I'm gonna rewatch it. I have vaguely fond memories of watching this as a good friend of mine.
it's so interesting to see this dubbed, 'cause when i read it myself, my brain gave gaster an entirely different tone. in my head, he was more... purposefully detached. a scientist, certainly, but a man as well. intentionally cold and clinical, keeping conscious distance from his test subjects, but the occasional tendency to slip up. seeing this interpretation is putting him in a whole new light. he feels... he feels rougher. crueler. impatient, and hot-headed. it's really fascinating.
That, might hurt, or feel weird, imagining it makes my hand feel weird. But that's just what I think, I know this is, maybe a joke, but thinking about it, yee.

I haven't watched this in a few years, rewatching it hit me with nostalgia. The way he keeps nearly calling them children in his notes and then crossing it out is something i completely forgot about.
gaster is a fascinating character, he is constantly trying to not think of them as kids because he can't handle the idea of torturing actual children, but somewhere he knows that's exactly what he's doing. its interesting to see him constantly conflicting with himself, he obviously hates himself but is almost trying to make himself worse, to sacrifice any shred of him being a good person for "the greater good". its fucked up but you can see his motivations and his twisted reasoning. also revisiting this series lmao
When Sans said "You just don't understand his way of thinking" that honestly was pretty validating for my ADHD. Papyrus is not dumb. He just thinks differently from the emotionless husk that is Gaster
same. I suspect I have autism and my entire life, I have always been made to feel like im dumb for the way I think. I am not able to solve most puzzles because they are made by people who think differently. I like solving them, its just that I cant, most times. I really relate to papyrus a lot in that regard. I have always struggled with feeling stupid. even now.
I really like the slow change of Gaster's voice from aggressive and defensive at the beginning, to calm and mysterious towards the middle of it. Yet he still slips into his aggressive tune, whenever he is mad at someone. I don't know, if that's a hint, that Gaster is softening up towards Sans and Papyrus, but either way, it's an awesome job of his voice actor!
The fact that gaster considered having a family with them rather than having them as test subjects is actually kinda sweet and totally didn't make me cry.
Zarla, the author of this comic, actually created an alternate timeline/universe called "Mercyplates", where Gaster chose the mercy option instead. Sometimes these comics appear after Sans and Paps have been tested halfway, then Gaster just suddenly remembers his conscience or something, and sometimes Gaster just never did the experiments on them. Depends on the different timelines.
Y'know what my favorite thing about this entire series is? Everything is addressed, not one stone left unturned. The card, the lab, the little lines of dialogue, the holes that nobody would think to fill. It's perfect.
I haven’t been into Undertale for a while but I found this again and I just love it so much, the head canons and semi-horror aspects is just-chef’s kiss
@@Uninteresting88 Actually, Toriel CAN kill you. The chance of it is low, but I have been killed by Toriel by being too reckless. Papyrus on the other hand always stops when you get down to one HP, and after you've shown you can't beat him multiple times he just lets you pass. We do love paps :)

We've never seen a boss monster besides Asriel, and he had six human souls, so we've never seen the true output of a boss monster (Attack is based on how much a monster wants to kill you and neither Toriel or Asgore really wanted to kill you). And paps is boss-monster level.

That moment near the end where you realize what Sans sees in the future is the aftermath of the genocide route and Papyrus sees the aftermath of the pacifist route in the future.. That finally got me. That was when I finally teared up. After an hour of no emotion, that got me.

REALLY!!!! I had an add then TOO!!!!! But I didn’t scream internally, I just outright screamed. I wasn’t ready for that, and the add was one of those ones that had an explosive start, and... I screamed because I was expecting it.
Watching this again in 2023 and I must admit this is still my favorite storyline and version of Gaster's character. Morally grey, and willing to do anything to free his kind from the entrapments of the barrier, and from the underground tomb they've been trapped in for so long.

I haven't watched this in a few years, rewatching it hit me with nostalgia. The way he keeps nearly calling them children in his notes and then crossing it out is something i completely forgot about.
gaster is a fascinating character, he is constantly trying to not think of them as kids because he can't handle the idea of torturing actual children, but somewhere he knows that's exactly what he's doing. its interesting to see him constantly conflicting with himself, he obviously hates himself but is almost trying to make himself worse, to sacrifice any shred of him being a good person for "the greater good". its fucked up but you can see his motivations and his twisted reasoning.

I really like the slow change of Gaster's voice from aggressive and defensive at the beginning, to calm and mysterious towards the middle of it. Yet he still slips into his aggressive tune, whenever he is mad at someone.
I don't know, if that's a hint, that Gaster is softening up towards Sans and Papyrus, but either way, it's an awesome job of his voice actor!
The fact that gaster considered having a family with them rather than having them as test subjects is actually kinda sweet and totally didn't make me cry.

Zarla, the author of this comic, actually created an alternate timeline/universe called "Mercyplates", where Gaster chose the mercy option instead. Watching this again in 2023 and I must admit this is still my favorite storyline and version of Gaster's character. Morally grey, and willing to do anything to free his kind from the entrapments of the barrier, and from the underground tomb they've been trapped in for so long.
