Hydrofoils are precision, mathematically modelled surfaces. We'll just use the angle grinder.
And got away with it .. 😆 lol
Yeah I'm positive they got a NACA wing formed with the grinder.
@@A_Man_In_His_Van But can they form an MH-60 with a grinder? :P

One thing, deep hydrofoils are more effective in lifting, do to an thing similar to a reverse "ground effect" where flying close to the surface generates less lift.
Your cargo boat might work if you just put the big wing deeper.
peter u need to revisit this ...please this summer bro this is gold not alot of youtubers can perfect the hydrofoil . you would be the first that ive seen ...please man revisit this
if you really want a challenge try hydrofoil sailing catamarans as in the Americas Cup and they got up to speeds that to crew on them you needed spine protection to stop from braking your back if you went over the side
Check out SailGP racing series here on RUclips.
Wanna make it even harder? Look at the new AC75s, the Kiwis just launch the first one of the class a couple of days ago, they think they may get 50kts+ 😲
Sailgp just broke the 50knot barrier in Cowes UK! Peter definitely needs to get a better understanding of hydrodynamics and naval architecture. This one was a bit painful to watch lol.
@@JustInvertedFpv yep it sucked haha, he has cool ideas I just wish he would finish them with a working model
Many of the refrences he looked at are faster than those. Just a hydrofoil passenger ship like the boeing jetfoil will go 50 knots. Something like the "problem child" hydrofoil can go 200 knots and more.
The speedboat is a planing hull, designed to run on top of the water, so it already lifts itself out of the box. The tugboat is a displacement hull, which is designed to send water out to the sides instead of riding on top. That's going to make the tug a LOT harder to get out of the water!
*oh man I got catfish again* best line ever.
I’m a good guy so I’m gonna go ahead and keep this at 69
Windows XP, love it, best windows OS to date lol.
In concern to the tug boat foil design... due to the tug boat being a displacement hull it will take much more time, and speed for the hilly to generate lift because the hull is pushing so much water out of the way. Not to say it’s impossible, but it sure is much harder than the planning hull!
That is quite true
I like how the aluminum sparks when you grind, sand, cut and even screw it in XD

For me who own a real hydrofoil boat (Russian Volga 70). This was amazing! Never knew you could make an RC hydrofoil boat!
Yess GEV or Ekranoplan next. Love your vids
Lo and behold
I was really surprised that creation lifted itself and got on plane. With no measuring, prints or anything.

It’s so fun to see what new thing you’ve done in an episode. There’s always some minute detail in your video, like the superimposed sparks on the electric screwdriver and the dog panting at about 3 minutes in.
You should try that one Soviet design of “ground effect” the one that was suppose to be a mobile nuke platform
😡
Eukranoplans
Nikko made a Hydrofoil in the 1990's, and I bought one on eBay with intentions of adding a brushless motor. It vibrated so bad, that it shook apart. But I don't have the skills you have, I know you could have made it work.
You’re amazing Peter! You’re projects are so inspiring :)

A few things you should try. The hydrofoils under water are all air foils like aircraft. They create lifts with very little drag. Second is the propeller - since water is much denser, you need a geared motor - lower speed, more torque, and a smaller propeller with a larger surface.
build an army of RC tanks and make the battle of Kursk
Foil was much larger on the powerboat vs the tug boat. Put the larger foil on the tug boat. ;D
I would like to see a Grumman X-29 made in rc form

Yo don’t blame my guy Dave, you drove the boat into the stick!
Awesome 👏. I love your videos your SO talented
That was neat! And yes, an RC ground-effect plane would be pretty cool too!
Im not first
I'm not last
But when PeterSripol uploads
I click fast
Make a ground effect craft that you can ride on. Maybe use Home Depot foam board insulation and with a single layer of fiberglass to keep it light yet relatively strong for the lifting surface/fuselage. For propulsion possibly a Harbor Freight Predator motor along with a large scale RC airplane or ultralight prop... come on Peter do it!!
Challenge try to catch a fish with the hydrofoil please
That tugboat and roll control look promising... add power, refine the control surfaces and go again! I want to see the tug fly!.. then, ekranoplan, for sure!

I really, really hope you try another "assisted" sled video in the coming winter! I loved the last one.

Peter: so I have an RA boat and aluminum scrap
Make the world's smallest rc airplane
replicate it, or a new record?
Marc Frank just make an airplane as small as possible that is still rc
The cat-fished part was super funny lol
3:43 you can hear the titanic song😂
Its 3:46 hahaha how did you even spot that
Awesome video! Love me some hydrofoils :).
When you’re flying the tugboat underwater, it might be neat to see the transmitter and the boat at the same time to see the effects of rolling etc.

Why did I laugh because he used windows XP on the Wikipedia part?
that hydrofoil you bolted to the tugboat is hilariously overkill. That exact foil is used on Waszp sailboats, and is capable of lifting a whole boat and its sailor out of the water
6:59: “what’s better than a speed boat? A tugboat obviously!” What’s better than a tugboat? a speeding tugboat!
Definitely want to see a giant eclipse container ship hydrofoil
Its crazy seeing so much Dave Knopp now a days on the RC side.
Man, really impressed how fast you iterate through things. Like bending the front foil angles & roll stability considerations, etc. Engineer!
Lol the dog He/she is so Cute try to get the boat to get up in the air was so fun
first attempt was pretty dope... got excited to see what the end product was gonna be
but, not gonna lie, it ended up being half-azzed
More hydrofoil content please. Let's see this concept perfected.
it's insane how simple it is, but it amazes me
Got to say that catfish joke was top tier 👌
Man that pun didn't really take flight... But I sure did lift my spirit...
Model ekranoplan would be great... once you've conquered a model one, move up to one that will take a passenger!
This little toy never knew what it had coming!
I love when you guys work fast rc boats. Just every time like (raises throttle 1/6th) boat: *YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH*
You are brutal towards the boats
You have a weird way of unboxing
That tug boat is MAJESTIC
The tug looks to have a displacement hull. You need a boat with a planning hull. With a displacement hull it will easily go to it's theoretical hull speed but if you want it to plane then it takes a large amount of power to get up on plan and break the surface tension of the water. Keep trying.
Out of curiosity with your water based builds have you ever considered adding those devices for keys that auto deploy airbags when it sinks to a certain depth? Could make testing a little easier without having to worry so much, no clue if its cost effective or effective at all but its an idea
Great idea! A co2 cartridge and a nitrile balloon or surgical glove would work for flotation.. Just add an electric water trigger and valve for the co2. ;D
Love to see a semi-scale Ekranoplan build! How about combining the EDF _and_ that water thruster on your tug? Yeah, you'd add weight but the additional thrust _might_ counter the added fat.
dude, wing wet surface area must be smaller than hull wet surface area, otherwise what's the point? nice videos tho, wishing u all the best
The editing in this was god tier

I’m not even a minute in and I already like these guys
Balsamic Joe There is sooo much more. Like they did some really crazy builds...
Hey peter, if you want some really cool inspiration for just how amazing hydrofoiling has become, look up 'Americas Cup AC75' they are 75ft hydrofoiling monohull sail boats... ridiculous! Love your videos man, really cool stuff! :D
Man, it's a good thing nothing is ever Peter's fault.
Ground effect vehicle will be very cool!! Cool video!!
I really like the Ekranoplane idea! Also, I really liked your bass heavy end roll. Very nice.
I’m more concerned you used a Dremel to open a cardboard box than I am that you used an angle grinder to make the foils
Brilliant video thank you 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️
I came for the hydrofoils and stayed for the electro swing.
So seeing the tug boat made me curious, could you make not only a freight ship, but a freight ship with working cranes that can load say half a dozen to a dozen containers but itself.
I love to see you challenge yourself and I think this would be awesome
Peter - i really like the tug boat version. I’d like to see if your model could work scaled up to a really boat size. How about mod for your canoe that is similar to what you did for the Tug?
I would love to see this turned into a big future project
The problem with the tugboat was its hull speed, not the power. The hull isnt designed to lift up of the water, the opposite happens, it sinks (called squatting in sailors terms) and starts trying to climb its own wave in the bow. Youd need a ridicolous amount of power to get it over its hull speed.
The larger foil worked because it lifted the boat before it reached its hull-speed.
I like the AvE style of opening the package
I will stay with plane thanks. I do have several boats. I even lost one in storage( somewhere). Nice job on the hydofoil. I remember Johnny Quest as a Saturday cartoon had a hydofoil boat. In the 60's and 70's it was pretty advanced stuff. They run a hydofoil to Mackinac Island now. It takes about 15 minutes instead of the usual 30 minutes. I personally prefer the slow boat myself. That thing goes faster than I care for.
Amazing boat
I love how the microwave is showing intense manufacturing process 0:49
And that’s why kids, you mustn’t put metal stuff into a microwave
i think peter should make a flying rc sailboat
Why did I keep hearing Scotty yelling "I'm giving you all she's got captain!"?
A good lesson about hull speed and displacement hulls.
Another great video guys . Keep them coming, always look forward to seeing the new ones!
please try it again with bigger stuff, this was awesome
I like your manner of precise hand tuning of foils with pliers %)
Planing hulls fly on top of the water, on an an air bubble (I was surprised by that part too). The planing hull is a “horizontal wing”. Displacement hulls fly through the water, as a vertical wing. Your tugboat is a very nice displacement hull, that doesn’t “know” how to get on the bubble (called “on step” by boaters and seaplane pilots. Adding some lightweight stepped pontoons to your airplane?
Hello Peter, if you are looking for the ultimate hydrofoil+Airfoil, check the work of Luc Armant "L'aile d'eau". Even if you don't speak french at all images, graphs and maths should inspire you. Actually the current experiments for sail speed records are kind of Aile d'eau family project, Sail Rocket, SP80 Antoine Albeau, ..) .
One leefoil, one sail (ideally a kite either rigid or soft), one line. A pilot in between, human or I.A.
It looks quite obvious on the paper, it should work, it does, but there's a lot of practical things to set and solve.
There's a free PDF somewhere on sailing forums.
But these is the best meeting of aircraft and boating, a kind of Graal. You may appreciate the challenge.
I guess the solution is a mix of theory work and pragmatism.
Peter: adds hydrofoils
Boat: ⬆️⬆️⬆️
with these builds they are impressive BBBBBUUUUTTTT if you connect the already existing motor and connect it to the same circuit board you might have 2 motors running it
I love the funny edits man. You wasted no time gettin it working too, well done
William Osman would be proud with that use of zip ties
I'd love to see some of the actually build process, or even some quick coverage of what was built, prior to testing.
