Lived in Surfside Beach during Hugo in 1989. Same thing. It took a long time to get things back to normal. They called in the reserves to help with the cleanup. 30 years is about right for the time between hurricanes to hit that area.
Unfortunately this is going to be a much bigger headache than previous hurricanes because of all the seemingly endless supply chain issues building materials. Not to mention lack of manpower.
As long as lives aren't lost, it's just money. The insurance will fix everything. And then the premiums will increase 10-25%. And everyone will rebuild in exactly the same location so that they are ready to face it in 10-20 years time.

No building should be allowed to be built on these island communities unless it is ABOVE sea level. Allowing builders to construct basement and ground level apartments is criminal. Hello ... Sea level on the Florida shore is Rising!!!

Hurricane Sandy was a tropical storm when it made landfall in NJ and it was the storm surge that caused all of the devastation. Category is just the wind speed.
