Jamie I couldn't be more pleased for you son terrible conditions but you caught some awesome fish the Chubb were beautiful and the barnble was just bril
loved this vid i used to fish crankley shallows opposite to were you were and used to bag up wi chub on the stick float back in the early 80s youve brought back so many memorys some cracking fish there john top man top angler
Thank you so much Joe, I'm glad it brought you some happy memories back. It didn't fish well, it's been a bad year everywhere though so I'm grateful for what I managed to extract from it in July. I've been there and had some huge bream catches, pike, Zander and multiple barbel but that's just how it goes. I really enjoy the long weekend fishing breaks, it, gives me chance to unwind and fish at a slower pace.
Another great video! Drive over the Trent on the A1 a lot so good to see you pulling some fish out. Also nice to see the range of species present and how to fish slightly differently for them. That barbel gave you a good pull!
Sun out and river clear isn't great for barbel. As soon as the sun starts dropping in the sky a magical switch is flipped and them barbel start feeding. 1 bait I don't leave home with nowadays and that's mussels the chub and barbel love em.
No it's never good on a low clear river for barbel so I consider myself fortunate on that occasion. I must try mussels as a change bait, theyre quite tough too so should hold up in the Trent flow, thanks for the tip. 👍
John..... great vid again mate BUT seriously get in touch with Leeds DASA and get that book sir. Been up at Ulleskelf today mate...eye watering day pal .......Fishing smallish feeder in the slacks and hammered em pal......some lovely chub decent stamp roach and enough dace to pack yer freezer...Maggot hemp sweetcorn and bread all scoring above average..HOWEVER didnt get a sign on bigger rods BUT they are there mate waiting for you CHEERS IAN
Ah that's fab Ian, I'll be going as soon as I can, hectic at the moment, I'm back at Southfield tomorrow and next Wednesday and I'm on the Kennet and Avon on Saturday so travelling down on Friday. Got loads to do at work so rushing around a lot and trying to make videos as well.🤣
Thanks. Thames is a great river, never had a barbel from it but won a big match there with 68lb of bream in Oxford in 2007. Fished it again 2 years ago. I've just got back home from Hungerford where we've been on the Kennet and Avon canal in a 75 peg team match, it was hard fishing.
The 'pike season' is a bit of a fallacy. I assume from your comment that you're a traditionalist and fish with the seasons but have a read of this. pacgb.com/fishing-for-pike/summer-piking-guide/ and this, canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/fishing/related-articles/the-fisheries-and-angling-team/summer-pike-fishing

It's an awesome river, so much variety, it didn't fish very well that weekend but on another day....
What a beautiful Barbel and chub well done John
Thanks Mike, I was literally the only person to catch a barbel that weekend. Planning a trip back to the Trent hopefully in October.

A nice barbel and chub John, well deserved fish for all your efforts, plus beautiful dace, well done!
Thanks Derek. It feels like I'm having a bit of a fish drought this year, just scraping by, maybe it's the cameras 😭
