    Just in case someone brings up: "The missiles destroy each other"
    I never had missiles or torpedoes destroying each other in all my tests.
    It is always very linear damage going from 1 up to 12.
    1 size 1 Marksman shields Warden front: 48% = lost 2%
    8 size 1 Marksman shields Warden front: 37% = lost 13%, 8 x 2 would be 16%
    Since there are rounding errors the 48% can be 48.5 even, this results means all hit, no missile was destroyed.

    The missile spam brings back memories of the early PU when the Constellation could dump all the missiles in one salvo.
    Getting eight missiles locked on you will spook any fighter pilot. I guess you could buy time with the ample missile stores, that seems about the right role for a "light" tank.

    also think maybe that the storm AA alongside balista, not only could drain ships of countermeasures, they can act as support to fighters in the air since not only do you have to focus on the fighter your fighting, but also chip damage from storms that can blow out components and weapon systems, turning the tide in your favour

    If you do further tests with it, I guess a interesting one would be Storm AA vs. Spirit A1 so see if it could take down the entry level bomber in time (I doubt it).

    • @Fe7Ace

      Actually that makes me wonder how viable, if at all possible, would be launching missiles at the bombs as they fall? They can be targeted if I remember right, but don't know if that means they can be missile locked as well. If it can shoot bombs out of the sky that may be it's best use.

  • @Reav00
    @Reav00 10 месяцев назад

    some thoughts-
    You are shooting a target with ir missiles on the ground when that target has bellow minimum missile range IR signature.
    However it is being detected by radar so it must be detected via cross section.
    Nova and balista have >2k range detect by EM but the IR is still bellow 1km.
    Storm needs to change missiles from IR to EM for big ground targets, or cross section for all.

  • @UneedTherapist
    @UneedTherapist 11 месяцев назад

    In current pvp meta missile is not about killing the ships, but killing their components instead
    If storm AA can change the missile, 64 taskforce 1 will be really powerful since it has one of the biggest damage radius for 14.4m with its broken EM tracking

  • @-NateTheGreat
    @-NateTheGreat 11 месяцев назад +6

    That is a lot of money, time and missiles wasted at one target. It would be cheaper and easier just to have another ship out there providing cover. However CIG wants to sell over priced vehicles for very niche situations

      missiles do a lot less damage when the shield is up.
      this thing is very dangerous when you also have fighters in the air. Or when you’re in an actual fighter, not a flying fortress like a vanguard.

    • @Camural
      @Camural  11 месяцев назад +2

      @Robert-G not really:
      1. When shields are full, 70% of missile damage is bypassing shields
      2. A Vanguard isn't exactly a very tough space ship. If you want to use the Storm AA to destroy 100is and Pisces, fine, but is this worth 90 dollars?
      Also: We didn't even use countermeasures or evasive maneuvers.

      @@Camural It's an support vehicle to secure a small airspace and offer other fighter a area they can fall back, deploying this thing solo is a deathwish like all other combat ground vehicles that are designed to work in tandem with other ships/vehicles.
      Even if you didn't land any Rocket onto the Arrow because the Pilot know how to avoid them without any decoys but that manouvering will be costly if they are in mid dogfight.

    Missiles aren't working in the current build. I'd imagine this would need a lot of work before it's balanced in the pu.

  • @Monk-Darlington
    @Monk-Darlington 11 месяцев назад

    Unless they severely beef up ground based missiles, you'd need a load of them to even be a minor deterant to anything I can even see that would be heading towards a location that would have ground vehicles about, so, ground attack / drop ship or bombers are going to shrug off the missiles, seems to me the AA role needs to go back to the classic approach of a bunch of large guns firing flak.
    Or have all AA missiles proc a small emp effect?
    Either way, it looks pretty cool dumping so many missiles (reminds me of the classic andromedas full launch) but is pointless.

    • @Camural
      @Camural  11 месяцев назад

      @Monk-Darlington if CIG would buff missile damage, then the whole balance would be completely fubar, not that balance in year 12 is close to fubar already :).
      If Cyclone AA and Cyclone MT would actually be useful vs ships then Storm AA would be absolutely OP.
      You don't put 80 missiles onto a vehicle and then try to balance it CIG.
      About AA: Why not go with what we are doing for decades in real life?
      AA guns are marginal useful in some very special circumstances, we have man-pads and stationary AA missiles.
      All CIG has for infantry is the underwhelming Animus that often doesn't even hit the broadside of a stationary Ballista at 100m

    • @Monk-Darlington
      @Monk-Darlington 11 месяцев назад

      @@Camural yeah it would make a mess of balance as it is now, but I mean they would need to be platform specific missiles just for AA so they can be tuned in a case by case basis.
      As it is, I see no real way to make them viable, they won't scratch anything that will be assaulting a ground defended location. Maybe if you can hire 20+ npcs to patrol your base in them it could be a detergent in 8 years time.
      As I said, I think going back to batteries of heavy MG's, vulcans and flak cannons is the only real way AA is going to work, also, a load more fun to operate and try to avoid.

  • @undeadpeak
    @undeadpeak 11 месяцев назад +1

    Being a missile vehicle it does suffer from the issue of missiles being server performance and the current patch.
    On top of that missiles are a little nuanced to use as you want the missile the strike the target from the top or bottom of the midship as this is where most crucial comps are, back in 3.19 I can semi reliably one shot most small to medium vessels with s1 missiles by doing this.
    Also you want to use EM missiles to fit the current meta they just work better.
    Edit: also missile explosion radius is important example being the base missile has a 2m radius meaning it’s useless against comps whilst the taskforce 1 has a 14m radius allowing it to splash components such as power plants, coolers, ect

    • @Camural
      @Camural  11 месяцев назад

      @undeadpeak7438 AoE damage radius of missiles and even size 9 torpedoes is really bad.
      It was very different before 3.0, with a much larger AoE radius.

    • @undeadpeak
      @undeadpeak 11 месяцев назад

      @@Camural oh I’m not saying the AOE isn’t but I’d be interested to see how a meta fit AA would fair compared to base fit, wouldn’t be surprised if the upgraded missiles knocked out the power plants given the larger radius
      Also using sub component targeting along side may have an effect on results

    Missiles have been completely useless since about the patch they released the Talon shrike. So basically they sold a ship on it being super powerful and then released it as completely pointless and useless.
    While I do enjoy dog fights missile play is some of my favorite gameplay and they have been turned into useless pebbles that rarely hit and when they do don't do enough damage to do anything.

    On paper I think CIG want to make heavy ground vehicle able to destroy heavy ships like warden/c2 for the centurion/balista/nova
    but they want those heavy ground vehicles to be destroyed by light ships with high mobility like hornet or a1 maybe
    and therefore light ground vehicle AA should be able to kill light ships to have a nice rock paper cisor gameplay
    in reality nothing work in this game anyway
    Also remember the Syulen get killed by only ONE small missile

    Super disappointing performance and damage for an AA. Like all ground vehicles they hop around and gets caught on everything. As a tank it has no real armor or weight. Looks cool, but definitely not worth it for out of game purchase atm. Try driving it through the forest on Ghost Hollow... pain.

    • @Camural
      @Camural  11 месяцев назад

      @michaelsmith2039 the terrible state of driving physics in year 12, no mass simulation, no inertia, vehicles are just pivoting around the center plus CIG's obsession to clutter everything with stones, rocks and boulders, makes driving no fun in Star Citizen.
      Just driving 500m out of armistice zones to test is a PITA :).

    I have the standard Storm, it's useful for my needs. Since I already use an ursa like an fps tank. Oddly the Nova is almost useless when fighting npc bad guys.
    The AA feels like they might nerf the internal reloads after the sale is over. Then again both suffer horribly when in rocky areas. Though the AA reminds me of a BattleTech srm carrier.
