They actually made the light scout tank wider than the heavy tank that is supposed to more and heavier armour... And if you look at the interior space to the sides then the only reason for the mid section to be as wide as it is is the three components at the back which could be solved by rotating the shield by 90 degrees to save some width if you don't want to touch the sides for estetic reasons. That could save at least the 0.5 meter to get it equal to the Nova and fitting in the same ships that currently can carry a heavy tank...
Yup it's stupid but it looks cool, idk if it looks Tumbril tho, even if they r going by rule of cool the Tumbril designs have always been a bit less sci-fi, I mean the Nova looks like a bad Sci-Fi Merkava, whereas the Storm looks like a Command & Conquer unit (kinda like the Nod stealth tank especially the AA version)
This huge width is all the more stupid as what is really great in SC is the possibility to put vehicles in ships. By artificially limiting to very few ships compatible with it, they obviously will limit its use for players. No player will buy or use it if it does not have one of the three big and costly ship needed.
@@FreebirthBoccara The shield generator is currently placed horizontally and as such is wider than it is tall. Rotating it so it is vertical (taller rather then wide) does not require any tray or pop out system. The depth would remain the same.
My metric for these has always been "could you get it in on the first try while under fire from a hostile light fighter?" And for both the Nova and the Storm the answer is only yes with the C2. Which begs the question: why would you choose this over the Nova? If the only thing that can really carry it is still a C2, why not bring more firepower, more shielding, more passenger space...etc? Sure, the Storm is faster, but if you just want speed, grab a Cyclone-MT or an Ursa. The Storm was clearly designed to be an LTI token. Nobody would actually use this in any game where the Nova exists.
Good point. The storm should really have been designed to fit in the valkyrie. Its even more useless if it can't carry a light tank. But this is just another example on an ongoing issue with CIG not making vehicles fit in ships they should be paired with. Such as, all medium sized explorer ships like the 400i should be able to fit an URSA since its the only explorer vehicle with an enclosed cab, which is needed for exploring harsh environments.
Kind of a bummer when the only 1 ship in the game i actually capable of carrying vehicles efficiently , so if you want to use big vehicles there is no other option than a C2 .

Given how it's just wide enough to not fit while having a hilariously wide design, I think it's a very safe bet to say it got this wide in order to not fit in "cheap" ships.
Nah, this one wasn't a marketing decision. Too much effort. Marketing decisions are more like the C8X, the Cyclone MT, the Ares being variants, ... Low effort straight upgrades, unnecessary limitations. At least not wanting tanks to fit in most ships has a gameplay reason.
Should of tried the connie Phoenix as it has a wider bay, but that turret is sure to hit the roof if it can fit. CIG is well known for not giving pre-requisites to their artists and designers.
So I tried that, it’s like extremely close to fitting. Enough so that power cycling the turret can get it in and out, it will start clipping around lightly when the bay is shut. I managed to put it in, fly to 3 different moons around the system to take out and put it back in with almost no issue. I’m not known for my luck so I’m taking this as a win for storing the storm in it. At least for this patch.

You said the Valk "should easily fit a light tank" a dropship that specifically is stated to be able to fit "ground-based transport or reconnaissance vehicles" a tank is none of those things. Realistically the valk would be ideal for mechanized infantry movements, which the largest thing they would have would be the equivalent to a cyclone. I don't see a nova fitting into a Valk being logical in any way, maybe a Cyclone (or 2) with a 20 man platoon makes sense from a military perspective. I also don't see why an MSR "SHOULD BE ABLE TO" fit a light tank. It's meant to be a medium cargo or data running ship, not a tank transporter. Not to mention the bay that the vehicles would fit into is the cargo bay, with full cargo I don't think ANY vehicles would it in it. As a matter of fact, the 2 ships that you were able to get the tank into easily are in fact the only 2 ships in the list that actually make sense to be able to fit them easily. Remember the Carrack is primarily a forward reconnaissance and exploration vehicle that was used by the UEE Navy and often moved crucial assets into battlefields (according to lore) ahead of the fleet. So it makes sense it could carry a light tank, though likely that would be a waste of its garage space as it would be better to fit something like 2 cyclones or an Ursa and a cyclone. You know actual reconnaissance vehicles.
this is clearly not a light tank. fat and clunky. cig failed another tracked vehicle. also the driving expirience is worse than the scorpion from halo combat evolved (2001).
Imagine the militaries of the world coming up with a scout tank that cannot fit in a parking spot that can accommodate your MBT and cannot be carried by any ships except ones with EM levels rivaling the sun. So good luck sneaking in to set down your recon scout tank anywhere near the enemy. As soon as you enter atmo in anything that can carry the Storm you are on everyone's radar. Going to need to set the Storm down on the back side of the planet and drive all the way to the AO. The fact that they made this thing wider than the Nova is ridiculous. The fact that you could park 4 M1 Abrams in the spot that can park a single Nova was already ridiculous enough. Actually 8 if you double stack the Abrams.
POV : you spend a year to make a light tank in a video game but its design is so fundamentally flawed that War Thunder players can instantly see its problems, something that paid devs have apparently failed to see. Looks cool though, reminds me of the Tumbler from the Batman movies or the Batmobile from the Batman Arkham games
I don't think CIG's vehicle and carrier designs are very good. The Hercules is a terrible design in my opinion, it looks silly and is very unstable, yet it is the only ship that is a good ground vehicle carrier, and it's frustratingly incapable of carrying two ballistas side by side even though they fit in the back with some margin. Also their solution for "nerfing" the M2's cargo vs the C2 is simply to disallow some grid spots, even though the hull is the exact same size.
The only medium ship it fits in so far is the corsair, other ships aren't wide out or deep enough to fit the Storm. And don't over think things, it should be a common sense thought that most medium ships that are older will not fit the newer ships that have came out before the corsair. I don't know why you even said "why tanks are so wide." It's a tank, be lucky that the corsair can fit it.
'' It's a tank, be lucky that the corsair can fit it.'' It's supposed to be a one man light tank though... while it's wider than the LARGEST TANK EVER BUILT. Actual ''light tanks'' are a heck of a lot easier to fit into cargo transports than that thing looks to be. I'm going to use the CV90105 as an example, since the CV90 series are both IFV's and light tanks depending on the model: Weight 25 t Length (gun forward) ~ 8.9 m Hull length ~ 6.6 m Width ~ 3.2 m Height ~ 2.4 m vs. the Storm Weight N/A Hull length ~ 10.5 m Width ~ 7.5 m Height ~ 3.6 m For reference, a ROAD is normally around 3.65m wide Do you see the issue? And the CV90105 is a THREE MAN VEHICLE... The Storm absolutely fails in it's role as a ''light tank''. Why does it have freaking pontoons for it's threads? And why FOUR threads?!? Why is it raised up so damn much? And how is it so damn wide? You could've saved quite a bit of hull length if you had offset the driver to the side a bit, used a SLIGHTLY more traditional driver's hatch instead of trying to make a luxury tank, move the turret onto the other side of the tank, move the threads closer to the damn body, combine them into two threads instead of 4, then you could've put side skirts onto it to protect the threads and side of the tank instead of having freaking thread pontoons. And why is there a bunch of extra armor between the main body of the tank and the damn pontoons?!?!? In what kind of world would someone try to disable this thing by shooting at it's hilarious pontoon threads and try to penetrate three entirely separate layers of armor?!?!? The damn thing has more armor against shots trying to hit the main body through the pontoons than the damn P-1000 Ratte...
Community asks for a smaller tank more ships can carry. Come out with a 'light' tank that still only the absolutely biggest ships can carry comfortably. Ugh.
Little disappointed with this one. Definitely should not be as wide as it is, and that retraction barely does anything. I'd imagine it would rotate and then point the gun barrel towards the back. Also, if it's meant to roll in and out of battle quickly it needs to be able to shoot and drive at the same time
It can shoot and drive at the same time and the turret deployment is funny enough it’s strongest feature, hide it below a ridge and the target cross section is so small it basically can’t be hit
So... They made the only light tank in the game not fit into the only Drop Ship purposely designed to carry such a vehicle to the battlefield... Sometimes I think CIG is mentally challenged. Out of all the ships designed to carry vehicles the Valkyrie should be able to carry at least one. This is just stupid in the extreme.
If only a storm could fit in to a C1, I probably would have bought one. So disappointed. CIG talks big game about realism, simulation, but then makes the most ridiculous design decisions sometimes.
I scratched the Storm as a shit concept, purely because it is a light tank that has a larger surface area than the Nova. Basically makes it pointless. So 0 interest.
That is insane. Thanks.
Ok they have to widen the valk ramp.
'' It's a tank, be lucky that the corsair can fit it.''
It's supposed to be a one man light tank though... while it's wider than the LARGEST TANK EVER BUILT.
Actual ''light tanks'' are a heck of a lot easier to fit into cargo transports than that thing looks to be.
I'm going to use the CV90105 as an example, since the CV90 series are both IFV's and light tanks depending on the model:
Weight 25 t
Length (gun forward) ~ 8.9 m
Hull length ~ 6.6 m
Width ~ 3.2 m
Height ~ 2.4 m
vs. the Storm
Weight N/A
Hull length ~ 10.5 m
Width ~ 7.5 m
Height ~ 3.6 m
For reference, a ROAD is normally around 3.65m wide
Do you see the issue?
Good stuff Cam :)
Corsair can carry it backwards.. it fits perfectly.
Community asks for a smaller tank more ships can carry. Come out with a 'light' tank that still only the absolutely biggest ships can carry comfortably. Ugh.
you forgot the hammerhead! ot does it have the same lift like the connie
Caterpillar?
Yeah they didn't put much thought into this did they
Can it fit in 600i?
@brianreck5971 after rework I think so since a Nova tank will fit after rework.
Before rework? No idea, I don't own a 600i.
Little disappointed with this one. Definitely should not be as wide as it is, and that retraction barely does anything. I'd imagine it would rotate and then point the gun barrel towards the back.
Also, if it's meant to roll in and out of battle quickly it needs to be able to shoot and drive at the same time
Where did you get the idea that you couldn't drive and shoot at the same time? ruclips.net/video/cYIVKVDfZsA/видео.htmlsi=lPVDkvCTR6flNr0V&t=137
It can shoot and drive at the same time and the turret deployment is funny enough it’s strongest feature, hide it below a ridge and the target cross section is so small it basically can’t be hit
Storm (7.5m) is wider than a Nova (7m) and doesn't even have an interior, it's bonkers.
The MSR's stupidly small door really really needs to be fixed
Your right shrink it back down to sensable.
MSR doors is fine. just make the tanks normal sized.
This happens when a Opel Manta driver designs a tank in SC: put it lower and add more spoilers!
This tank is a joke, even before it's in game.
It really is annoying how needlessly large they make their vehicles.
I have better luck backing inside the Corsair
She's thiccccc, ok so here's a question seeing as I don't own a carrack what's better solo Nova or Storm?
So so dissapointing it can't fit in the Valkyrie, why do they hate this ship so much
So obvious: you want to carry a light tank? Buy a big ship!
I thought they originally said it was supposed to be about the size of the rover, well saved me some money :/
If only a storm could fit in to a C1, I probably would have bought one. So disappointed. CIG talks big game about realism, simulation, but then makes the most ridiculous design decisions sometimes.
Woof woof woof woof
LOL, this thing is just too large for what it is, like goodness me this is poorly designed.
I hate cig for making everything this huge..
I scratched the Storm as a shit concept, purely because it is a light tank that has a larger surface area than the Nova. Basically makes it pointless. So 0 interest.
WTF were they thinking? A light tank that only fits in the same ships as a heavy tank? No thanks. Pass.
A single seater tank, that can only fit in multi crew, massive ships......FML.
valk needs it's dimensions changed pretty badly. Worst dropship ever =/
Totally useless vehicle. I still can't justify why it's too wide. Besides that, it should be a hover tank.
Its like watching the kid trying to push the circle block into a triangle hole man. You really can't see it won't fit? C'mon.
The fact that the Storm and Spartan can't fit in the Valkyrie makes little sense.
@eric4133 it is really terrible :(.
Such a terrible design wider than nova
You forgot to try the freelancer max
There is literally 0 reasons to own a storm if it has the same logistic footprint as a nova. Just bring nova…..way to go cig……
