I think that one brooch is a wish bone and not made to look like a horse shoe. Reason why I say is because I bought one years ago called a wishbone brooch.
I agree it’s a wishbone. It’s pretty!
Yes a wish bone
That was an old tradition in my family. When we were kids, every time we had a turkey or chicken, the wishbone was saved so one of us could make a wish (if we we're lucky). 🦃🐔
I love watching Rusty ~~ he often calls things by the wrong name. I'll sit here and laugh thinking "Dang, Rusty you know what that is!!!" LOL !!!
I was thinking the same thing. Just yesterday I was shopping and seen a brooch half sticking out of a bowl full of other brooches and thought it was a horseshoe in which I love to wear playing poker. Pulled it out and seen the tail end of it so then I concluded it was not a horseshoe but rather a wishbone so I was sad and put it back. When rusty said horseshoe on his video here I thought, oh no! So thank you for the comment. I thought again for a min I was wrong. But even rusty makes mistakes too. I will add, I'm not sure if one is luckier than the other. Now I'm rethinking the whole idea of horseshoes to bring good cards!!! So mabye I should have bought the wishbone and tried out a hand or two to see how it goes!!!
Rusty, I really admire your sensitivity towards endangered species and minority groups. ❤
As a former purchaser of pierced earrings back in the day, I'd buy "solid gold post" earrings so my ears wouldn't become infected. That was a selling feature back then ('60s and '70s). Hope this helps you trust your eyes: the posts only are gold.
Ebay shut my old account down 2 years ago, and never gave me a reason. I talked to 4 or 5 people, and was told they didn't have to give me a reason. Ebay policies are very draconian and unfair at times.
I think people buy the glasses for the frames not intending to match the prescription. The numbers refer to the dimensions of the frames.
Hi Rusty! The group of 3 numbers on the eyeglasses doesnt refer to the prescription, it's frame measurements in mm. Left to right the numbers are lens width, bridge width, and the distance from the hinge screw to the ear tip. Any additional info is usually model and color number of the frame. Hope that helps♡
The posts on earrings many times are 14K gold when the rest of the earring is not. This is because of the allergy problem many people have with lesser alloy type posts. It would turn the earlobe green and/ or get infected. So those earrings that you’ve purchased that the post says 14 karat gold, the post is probably 14 karat, even if the rest of the earring may not be..
Great info Rusty. Learned a lot. Too bad E-Bay jumps to conclusions so fast and doesn’t give the seller a chance to explain before they are completely removed.
Thank you so much Rusty! I really appreciate all the info you always share so freely! My cautionary tale: DO NOT ship to Korea....even if insured and tracked, I found out the hard way that the tracking ends once it hits the post office in Korea. Lost $400! UGH!
I just discovered your channel, and have liked and subbed. Thanks! I’m 74. When I was 16 I visited my “rich Aunt” who lived in Long Island NY. She had a treasure trove of beautiful collectable items in her home. She showed me her netsuke (“net ski”) collection of exquisitely carved figures. This must have been before ivory was banned, because she never even mentioned that they were made of carved ivory. Her home was filled with the most beautiful sculpture and other items. She was way ahead of her times! Those two netsuke pieces you have are quite beautiful. You may want to consider donating them to a museum, although I do not know what types of restrictions museums must comply with. At least you would get a tax writeoff! EBay sounds like it’s more trouble than it’s worth. There are many other sites out there now. But you have probably invested a lot of time in set up, which makes it hard to move on. At any rate, I am enjoying your videos and glad to have discovered you. Check out “Curiosity Inc.” for a similar site to yours but in Canada. Once again, cheers and thanks.
Horse shoe is wish bone. U must have never had horses!!! I appreciate your videos! So educational. Love it!!! Im subscribing now!!
Those “fake pearl” earrings on the Japan clip on earring back are really just someone has used the more expensive clip on component to upcycle some jewelry. The white stones look like snow quartz and the blue ones look luster cobalt beads with “gold tone” bead caps. They used wire to wrap onto earring backs. 😊
PS the stone name you were looking for was hematite 😅
Actually eBay pulled a couple of my items off because and I quote " We have to protect our site for others even if it just looks like ivory." I questioned this as I tested each item prior to listing. I was told "we can't trust a sellers testing" Basically eBay decided sellers are ignorant and liars. thats what the all great eBay thinks of its sellers.
Just wanted to say learning so much from you ( especially about eye glasses) but the horse shoe shape you were referring to is called a “wishbone “ shape. We can all learn from each other
Exactly what happened to me. My item was not ivory but they would not listen to me and I had been on ebay for 18 years and never had an item taken down. I am also restricted for life for the same words you said plus the word Victorian. My item had nothing to do with Victorian. I couldn't even put vintage, I now can use vintage but still none of the others. So unfair.
Regarding the red aurora borealis brooch, the long pointed stones are called 'marquise' cut, baguettes are also long but square-ended.
Also check the policy for glasses. I heard if they have a prescription the lenses must be removed.
That is correct. Prescription items cannot be sold on eBay. Remove the lenses and/or put “FRAMES ONLY” in the title.
Can the lenses be included in the package with the frames after being removed? Just included as a ‘freebie’
@@bluebelle9572 I don’t think you can. I remove the lenses and make sure to note frame only in the title in the hope of not causing an unwanted problem.
GREETINGS Rusty...Came across your channel this morning... what a great channel... thank you for sharing your knowledge. what a fun 😊way to learn... I am hooked ... have a great day from 🇨🇦
EBay should come up with some sort of arbitration group that can review the items and actually give the person a chance to explain it doesn't seem quite fair and it's a little scary.
EBay has gone crazyI I would have told them about the first item not being ivory which seemed to have started all that. I have started selling on Etsy. So much less crazy! Plus the fees are way more reasonable! 👍🔥😀
Etsy will shut you down for a multitude of reasons with no explanation. Read the forums for a heads up.
That pencil is cool!! I live in Shelby!!! I'm new to your channel. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us!!
I once got in temporarily blocked on Ebay because a customer had sent me a msg with a question about my item, but he had accidentally sent the same question twice. For some reason I only saw one question, which I answered once, but Ebay fussed at me for "not responding to a customer's question in a timely manner" because I'd never responded to the duplicate question. That was the end of my short-lived Ebay selling career. I figured I wouldn't have time to monitor messages closely enough to protect myself from their drama, so I backed off.
It's Danecraft. How lucky to find that Coro set, especially after being separated! 😊 By the way, Givenchy is pronounced Jee-vawn-shay (emphasis on the shay part). He's from France.
Sir, not a horseshoe but a wishbone from the 1960's, very beautiful. The circular, mum looking pin with the freshwater fake pearl is actually called a cabashon. The shape is a dead giveway. Large, round, half a basketball so to speak. Great haul tho......💚 btw, Sarah Coventry was made in the 1970's and 1980'S, using real stones, gemstones, crystals. Quite lovely pieces, not dime store junk for sho. My mother was a dealer of SC back when a hostess had a home party, depending on the amount of sales, the hostess then was able to pick from beautiful pieces.
This was awesome of you to take your time and explain this. Im grateful that you educate me on this along with every video you have shared. Thank you Rusty! You are one of my top UTubers and Its because of you, ive been able to start up my own online store with much of my items being costume jewelry that im pretty darn confident on my listings and prices now because of you. So much appreciation goes to you for sharing your knowledge with me! God bless and good luck on your future endeavors!
Glad it was helpful!
Those are amazing! Such talent & skill 44:36
They were made long before poaching was a thing.
Thank You Cousin for all your support. God Bless you. If you can give us ideas on what to charge when you show jewelry. Thanks
Great love your videos so well discripthugs Rusty🥰
What kind of camera are you using? Your close ups are crystal clear...
a new Iphone!
@@RustyTheReseller
Thanks a bunch...
Thank you, Rusty!
Also have noticed dishonest people tagging things vintage on Etsy and Ebay that were made 2 months ago. Could be why honest sellers like you and I get the short end of the stick.
Hi cousin! Great informative video, 👍 thanks😊
the small cut pink stones on the gold broachl think is called Marquise cut @11 time stamp. Cheers from Aussie
Thank you for a good video. It only takes 132.6 hours to navigate and read the User agreement on eevullBay, I keep forgetting what I have read and have to start over.
😂
Rusty, I absolutely love your little subscribe break
Rusty I live in Ireland and I have a brooch made by Marker and the same clip on earrings and necklace also but it’s broken. Is it a decent piece? Hopefully you will see this and answer as I don’t know what to do to get it valued. I love your channel keep doing what you are doing, it’s educational and enjoyable all the time
The door knocker earrings look like they would go with the necklace that had the "cameo" under the blue
I am a cousin from Britain 😊 I do like your accent and it would be interesting to know where your accent is from! When I was in the USA, people liked my accent😊
The pin you called horseshoe is a wishbone 😊
And the one you called a rose with a long leaf is a tulip 😊
😮😢 dang that’s terrible cuz…. Thanks for the info!
You're funny, dropping things on the floor for us to see your ~like & subscribe~ notes. Very clever.
Nazis used to ban books as well. Sad that everyone jumped on the bandwagon of banning Dr. Seuss because their feelings were hurt.
Racism is more than hurt feelings. What was "tolerated" years ago is no longer acceptable...and that's a good thing.
Welcome to the woke generation!!!
@@Babs5678 Damn good thing to wake up from racism...
The one you called a horse shoe was a wishbone design. Theone with the stones that you said are not baguette stones, they are Marquise shaped stones. And the pronunciation of Givenchy is "gee von shay". I hope this helped you. They were all pretty piece's
Givenchy is pronounced ZHEE-VAUGN-SHEE. Where did you pick those door-knockers from? You should get a good dollar for those. Very nice. A little jealous. Same place as the Ciners?
Thank you so much. 😘
What type of camera and microscope are you using? You able to zoom in so clearly. Very informative!
Sweet scores. I used to collect old pencils and found only 1 "good" one in five years. Were'd they all go?
Rusty I love your videos this was very informative. I have a bunch of WW2 postcards depicting France after it was bombed and before it was rebuilt. Various military cemeteries in Europe and German stamps that were remarked when the money was devalued by Hitler. I don't plan on selling them at this time but I wonder if eBay would consider it as banned items.
Sorry you had to deal with all that nonsense from eBay. It’s for things like that that I have a Legal protection plan. I highly recommend you get one. You can get free legal advice from a lawyer and they can even tell you how to respond in situations like that, even issue letter on your behalf for free. I’ve been in a similar situation and the assistance from the lawyer help keep me from being so stressed and definitely saved a lot of time money. Thanks for all the great content.
great video. I was wondering about knives as I have my mom's old girls scout knife. so you answered my thoughts before I even asked. Wow I had no idea of all the items . I haven't decided where I want to sell as yet . I started on the marketplace but only for a couple weeks I think it would be easier to pay a monthly subscription and post for a longer time instead of having to relist every week. ugh any suggestions. . Maybe Im to old to have started this.
The Ray Bans You are looking at the RB Code Google the RB Code and it will give you the exact model, then the size 52-17-130 for example means the glasses are 52mm, so you have 52 Milimater Ray Ban Wayfarer frames for example. Those particular ray bans are half rims, probably get you about 20-30 dollars,
I got an item removed that was a conch shell. Same animal protection policy. Thousands of these are for sale on eBay.
Died when you dropped the key broach with the subscribe interlude. Creative cousin!😁👍
Test the ear piece on those 14K gold. That's the piece that is marked and will make a difference in the saleability as some can only wear gold.
Cuzin’ the posts are likely 14K on the earrings, just not the rest. I see that a lot on Amazon with sterling silver in the name but it’s just the posts that are sterling, not the earring.
Hey Rusty. Just curious to your location. I saw you wearing a Black Mountain t shirt. Is this near Asheville, NC?. I was born and raised in Canton,NC. Moved to Georgis 2 1/2 years ago upon retiring from my Job in Asheville.
My mom had the exact thing happen to her. It was also resin. All she said was ivory color.
Good man for sharing
I had a switch blade years ago. I decided to hide it because i didnt k ow they were illegal back then. I hid it so well i never found it. Someone found a nice knife. Happy for them. Dont get caught with it.
Yo. At about 9min in, you showed a pin you referenced as a horse show. Close, but not a horse shoe. It is an english riding spur. The rider wears them on the boot heels as a “riding aide.”
ps I love Red White and Blue, but only have the one’s in New Jersey to visit. You should get RWB to sponsor a video of you visiting all of their locations!
Ray bans the frame is cost, you beg lens 4 free
Love your channel
The earrings marked gold earring may not be gold but the dollars part goes through the ear may be gold as many people have allergies to cheap metal!
Thanks for another great video, cousin!
That is soooo wrong for Ebay to restrict the wording in your description. What? I'm listening to you as you speak. Lifetime restrictions? Insane that they can limit you from selling antiques, something old, vintage & so on. That basically closes your shop. Where in their policies, guidelines, procedures, rules does Ebay have written to back up their actions against you? Also, where in the above does it say in writing you've gone against such? Wrong, so, so wrong...
No marks on earlier costume jewelry, wasn’t till Zigfield folios, that they started marking🥰
I love looking. Can't afford to buy my own.
That one brooch looked more like a wishbone than a horseshoe
I would be curious when this happened? Because in the last 10 years, they always take out any accounts listed under a persons ip address / or SSN.
My son-in-law sells on Mercari. He loves it.
9:18 is a wishbone brooch! Google it is not a horseshoe
I have a few ivory items and I don’t know what to do with them. Any suggestions?
Rusty do you have to buy an resale r licence?
I just wanted to be the 27th person to tell you it's a wishbone.
Thanks. I didn't believe it fully until just now...ha.
such a helpful video - kudos
On the earrings could it be that the just the part that goes through your ears 14 karat and the rest is not?
it is illegal everywhere to buy or sell IVORY. In order to obtain ivory, the elephant is slaughtered, or more likely, shot to bring them down, allowing these monsters to cut off their tusks, then left to suffer & die. The older you get, the more you learn. On that note, there's also alot that you don't know about food animals, , so Google "Factory Farming" & try some of the awesome new plant-based foods. Sorry for being off-topic. sort of. LOVE YOU !
Check the list of embargoed countries. Can't sell anything from them. 24K gold necklace from Iran pulled.
❤ the moon and angel pin
all the thrift shops nowday filter through everything that has value.
Yes, they do. I actually had a thrift store manager mark an item up as I was checking out because he knew it was a good piece. I should’ve left it there, but I didn’t.
If it’s older than 1976, you can sell the ivory because I have done so
I am Suscribed!!!
Id stay away from Converse for the Most Part - Usually you can buy good ones in the 50-80$ range brand new. Used Probably 20$-25$ tops, so many of them too
A bunch of top sellers should make their own alternative to Ebay. I don t understand why sellers just surrender to being spit at an middle fingered by the Ebay crooks?
There are way too many places you can sell besides eBay. I would drop their butts.
I wish someone would do a bookkeeping info for taxes
It is Dr. Suisse is now objectionable and ran into it when I was a speech pathologist in the schools.
I’m so sorry Rusty!
You're scratching the gold off your wedding ring mate
How would you describe a pair of ostrich boots, or leather boots.
Speaking of the replica Rolex, 52:17 watch and eBay’s policy why do they allow all the fake for Milwaukee batteries to be sold where those companies use images of Milwaukee batteries to sell them and when you get them they look nothing like what they have pictured in their offerings
That's a. Wishbone, not a horseshoe! Love your video though!
Have you considered a tripod?
Thats a wishbone, not a horseshoe. but it is for good luck....50's early 60's
Eye glass prescrìption details ate actislly in thr lend, not on the arms.
Here in Alaska we can't sell the Ivory of walrus or whale bones or Blaine unless your a native artist. It's really illegal. No Eagel ANYTHING and even some older furs. It don't matter if it's new or antique. Elephant and rhino Ivory is a no no EVERYWHERE though
GEE VAHN SHE =Givenchy 😉
Resty. That ain’t no horseshoe Brooch that’s a wishbone.
That's what I was thinkin also. LOL. Poor Rusty, bless his heart, he's tryin.
The Dr. Suss was preying on baby chickens. In order to make an omelet. Some embryo unfortunately will have to be sacrificed.
I got an item taken down just because I used the word "amber" to describe the COLOR of an item -- a plastic item clearly NOT amber in any way shape or form. I think they have bots that search just for words. So from now on when I want to say something is amber colored I use the term rust, honey, orange or caramel...and just in case, I don't use the word ivory any more in describing color...I use cream or off white. It seems totally unfair that they don't have any way to appeal or arbitrate their decisions.
it was not a horse shoo but a wishbone and not a rose but a tulip.
