Magnificent!
Bremer Barockorchester; what number is the fantasia played as the introduction? Thank you,
I love Baroque music and support all those bringing this period of music to our delight.
Is this available on a CD recording? In fact is there anything from Bremer Barockorchester available on CD? I searched on Amazon-US but no CDs were returned in my search.

I grew up in poverty always dreaming of playing an instrument but of course that was an impossible dream. Now that I am an older adult and still struggling financially, my dream is still intact. I have been able to take some music lessons with the transverse flute and I am currently teaching myself to play the soprano recorder... only to re-affirm this is the world I wish I could belong too. Music just takes me to a whole different dimension. It makes me cry. It makes me happy. It's soothing to my soul. I've been watching a lot of these videos. Just phenomenal...! This is like having direct communication from heaven!
Our childhood dreams always seem to crop back up. Follow the childhood dream and we will find our true selves.
Good on you !! You'll get there. My life was very similar I grew up poor and lived on my own from the age of twelve. After years of drug addiction and unemployment I am now doing better. I started saxophone at 24, I'm only 27 now but already doing very well on tenor sax. Chronic pain and loneliness trys to rob me of my achievements but it will never succeed as I am born to play music and will not except a life without it. Much love and good luck to you !! You will achieve if you have the passion.
You are a beautiful man. I affirm you.
@@lasmluclasm3781 I can sent you a music for saxophone
Hello! I would say that if you're taking the initiative to go so far as to teach yourself an instrument, and especially if you continue to make progress here and there, you already belong to that world in a real way. It's great that you're doing that!
The more Telemann I hear, the more I think he is monstrously underrated. And what a lovely performance this is.
To be honest, his music is much too subtle to stand out. Although his chalumeau pieces are pretty experimental for the era and paved the way for classical and romantic clarinet composing.
I agree.
How about that suite he composed based on Gypsy fiddling? It's very wild.
@@nikosstr7908 I agree, but his music being subtle is exactly why I love it so much. After listening to too much Bach is usually feel like a tiny ant, considering I was just listening to possibly the greatest composer of all time I personally feel that this is justified, so I need Telemann's beautiful music to remember that I am actually a person. It might just be me, but Telemann's music is just so human and comforting.
You are right. In his own time, he was more celebrated than Bach. However, when Bach (as a composer) came to the general public's attention several decades after his death, his work cast an enormous shadow over the baroque era. Obviously, it wasn't Bach's fault or intention, but it happened.
People always say the baroque composers weren't interested in tone colour, but this whole concerto is about the subtle contrast in tone colour between the flute and the recorder, beautifully brought out by the Bremer Barockorchester.
The ones who say that either have never heard the actual instruments playing the work, or don't understand how tone color works. This is gorgeous
I think anyone who has had anything to do with HIP of baroque music should be aware of how important tone colour is.
The interplay is like a love story
And actually tone color was one of the highest principles in baroque music 😮
I think this is a common misunderstanding based on the written music- The elements of music we are familiar with today were all present but often manipulated in ways different from how we might expect, and often things like tone color don’t translate across the written music, and if we don’t see things in the score that are familiar to us from modern scores, then we don’t notice the elements there until they are played for us.
In that vein, I’ve heard many a modern performance of baroque music (those performances uninfluenced by HIP) on modern instruments which falls utterly flat and devoid of color, due to these myths and an uninformed or unimaginative reading of the score. It’s a shame, we need more education on early music taught to our young musicians!!!
We all know that the recorder was phased out as the orchestra began to grow. But, before that happened, Telemann saw it coming and created this wonderful marriage of love between the two. It was wonderful. Again, thank you Bremer B.; you are beautiful and talented people.
The folks in this orchestra play tight! I'm not seeing 13 people, I'm seeing one organism with 13 cells. I think Telemann would've been delighted!
They are having a conversation that only they can understand, but that everyone can feel
Oh, please...
@@elizabethhayes9659 lol
It is especially amazing when the volume of recorder does not disappear in a string orchestra. I can clearly hear the beautiful voice of recorder and flute🎉
The recorder is an absolute gift from Heaven in the hands of the dedicated player - - such as we have here.
Doesn't get much better than this. The pairing of flute and its sibling the recorder is so rare - usually it's a matter of a choice of one or the other - seems to have opened Telemann's imagination in a powerful way. Their solo duets in the opening are gorgeous and mysterious; the driving edge he gives he gives to both instruments in the final movement, with its heavy droning support in the strings, is incredibly powerful, and this performance makes the most of this dimensionality. Bravo!
I love that there is no choice and both are played. As a recorder (flûte à bec) player played with flutists ("flûtiste" en français, for recorder players too), and and we can hear the breaths mixing, beyond the notes, the energy we feel is extraordinary. I LOVE it !
The initial duet is a solo Fantasy written for solo flute but often played by the recorder. They alternated it creating a magical duo as a perfect introduction.
Telemann is the Rock star of the Baroque. Underrated and under played.
Sounds like a forest of singing birds! Telemann's brilliant use of woodwind instrumental music is pure joy!
Love the smile at 6:50. A big part of enjoying music for me (of any style) is that the players are enjoying making music together.
My introduction to music in general, and classical in particular, was a soprano recorder that my aunt Lucy gave me when I was 15 years old. She taught me one song and after I learned she said I was on my own. Today I play many different wind instruments and have even made some myself and I do it all just for the enjoyment of making sounds that are beautiful and pleasing to me, mostly! Baroque music in particular fascinates me and I agree with most of the comments that Telemann is way underrated and I can't figure why because every piece I've ever heard from me is fabulous. Cheers and keep the music alive by listening or making some as often as possible.
Well done Enrique yours is a great story, your Aunt Lucy opened a box of delights for you to enjoy for the rest of your life
I play the flute and recorder as well as the keyboard (harpsichord, organ and piano). I must say that I've listened to this recording dozens of times - it makes me cry sometimes. Telemann's music is of course exquisite, but these performers raise the music to new heights. The slow movements are heart-rending, the fast movements breath-taking and exhilarating, while not taking things at breakneck speed just for the sake of virtuosity. The vihuela player - ¡que bueno! His continuo improvisations are bold and daring. One of the best early music groups I've ever heard in my life! Aloha from Honolulu, Hawaii!
Well stated. I also play flute and baroque flute, and I keep coming back to this performance again and again. I feel the same way about it. What a spine tingling performance!
"The slow movements are heart-rending, the fast movements breath-taking and exhilarating"
Completely agree. I felt like I was in a dream with the introduction... I didn't even realize I was listening to music, and then it brought tears to my eyes.
+Hari -- I always appreciate having someone knowledgeable write an intelligent comment. Thnx!
I hate to be a complete douche but there is no vihuela. That's a baroque guitar.
Desire is the cause of sorrow but the same desire will bring changes and give meaning to life. Outstanding performance
This is one of my favourite baroque concerts. Since I listened to the Tafelmusik, I became a huge fan of Telemann. What an exquisite, beautiful performance of the famous concerto in E minor for recorder and flute!
Telemann is the most underrated composer ever. Thank you for bringing him into the light.
I've listened to (broad meaning) classical my whole life, yet I often feel I have heard only the popular pieces and composers. I'm going to look for more of his stuff. I heard part of a composition from him that used a bassoon and recorder and also found it mellow and listenable.
@@FlamingCockatiel Bach is popular but not all of his pieces are. I enjoy typing BWV and then a random number to see an unpopular piece show up and listen to it. For example, I searched BWV 123 and I really enjoyed the result.
Pseunition that’s a really cool idea. I feel like Haydn would also be good for that, given that he is very prolific.
THE most prolific.the most wealthy but got bankrupt by his wife (gambling )
The Largo speaks directly to the soul...
All of our musicians (but especially the two flautists) look like they're having a great time and the enjoyment is reflected in the quality of the music.
That was absolutely brilliant to start this work with Telemann's Fantasia 8, split between the flute and recorder!! It was like they were wistfully calling to each other, in order to participate in an intricate dance. I've played this piece on recorder, and it is impossible not to be drawn into the emotional interaction between the two winds. Bravo Bremer Barockorchester, for this intimate rendition. And I must say Anninka's playing is both beautiful and vulnerable.
I dont have much experience with baroque concerts or concerts in general but noticing there is no conductor yet the musicians are very aware of the timings and when to play and coordination is amazing
I legit said "Wow" to at the exact same time. This ensemble (and Telemann) are incredible.
Just sitting here and found this track, so leaving a few words of gratitude. stay safe all 💚
Anninka Fohgrub is exquisite playing recorder in this piece, and Felipe Egaña's flute is masterful. The way they interplay and show the subtle differences between their instruments is beautiful.
I should also note, I don't think that I've ever seen someone play guitar with seriousness and concentration of Hugo de Rodas in this video. THAT is a dedicated musician.
I like that you can actually hear it as well, amazing sound engineering in this recording, it's really top tier
Wie alte Musik gespielt werden soll! So elegant, so viel gefuehl.... Absolute Spitze, es bewegt mich wirklich... Schade dass es zu weit ist zum Besuchen.
My daughter played treble and bass recorders in a recorder ensemble when she was at school. I still love listening to recorder music and it needs more play time on classicfm.
A wonderful comment... I so agree with you
Anninka catches my eyes ..... she is so beautiful, elegant and sensitive ... she plays with such a special grace...
È assolutamente meravigliosa, la Musica fatta persona.
Telemann and the Recorder are inseparable. Beautiful playing...
If any one ever says to me that the recorder is a child’s toy and not a serious instrument I will politely direct them to this beautiful video. The recorder soars above, it adds a sense of magical intrigue. ♥️
Absolutely wonderful observation from you...
Telemann's music is wonderful. especially the concerts for flute.
Das Bremer Barockorchester ist mein absoluter Favorit, was dieses Genre betrifft! Vielen Dank, für die wunderbare Musik, die erklingen darf!
Well-deserved 1M views, the only question is: why not more?
Every time I listen this performance I am stunned. So much beauty!
Telemann has always been one of my favorite barock composers. It's not fair that is so underrated, he should be as praised as Vivaldi, Bach, Haendel..
Hendrik Vanger And Sammartini is fantastic too
Telemann is very good.
Hendrik Vanger Hess
Nena Volk
Or do you mean Hasse?
He is adored by many musicians. Flautists and recorder players live to play this double concerto.
Presto is really something worth living for. So uplifting ...
I had never listened such a beautiful talk between recorder and flute.....great Telemann!!!, thank you, Bremer Barockorchester!!!
That "wow" at the end :)))))))
I honestly think this one of my favourite recordings of anything, ever. It's sublime in the first degree. The largo section without the continuo at the start in particular is pure magic.
There were angels singing through those flutes!!!?
The colorful tone definately. Infact these are using keys that aren't used now days commonly in bands which expresses this more. Baroque pitch 415 which that 415 was Aflat. So G would be modern day F#.
The key remains e minor. What is more important is its temperament, non- equal, which makes for better sounding thirds than even temperament and slightly different thirds in each key, hence each key is different and can have a 'mood' associated with it. BTW, these orchestras sometimes play in pitches other than 415, 392, 410, etc. Pitch was NOT standardized back then, see www.oldflutes.com/baroq.htm
I got that feeling as well. :D
Incredibly skillful players can make you think that - but I give all credit to the players.
Correcte.
I love at 7:50 in the Allegro how the flute and recorder are playing just off each other and the warbling sound it creates.
Every time I come listen to this I want to give it another thumbs up.
I've been playing the baroque recorder for 7 years...love baroque music, Telemann is great. Celestial.
That slow movement, with the artists performing from backstate, is so tasteful and moving! I really appreciated the impact such beauty caused.
Super strong that last movement. I LOVE IT
The Presto is magnificent! It would lift a dead from the grave.
Telemann makes the complicated seem effortless.
Incredible performance.
It's pure cleverness, no complication at all. He could play many instruments and hence used them in best possible way. That is why it sounds so incredibly well.
What an incredible and innovative piece. Telemann is an extremely underrated composer.
The absence of a conductor adds to the pleasure.
Winderbares , harmonisches Zusammenspiel des Orchesters. Wer Barockmusik liebt, muß auch Telemann lieben.
Gut gesagt!
I wish I had this type of occasions in my Country... Touching and awesome. I'll never stop loving my Recorder. This is so motivating. God bless you all for moving me..
Telemann is absolutely a genius!
Thank you for great performance!
An elf, a dwarf, princess Leia, and some Juice? Loving the Fantasia.
This music is like it came from heaven
Oyez bonnes gens: Telemann est un immense compositeur ! Qu'on se le dise.
Never heard that intro to this piece before. Such a lucid and confident performance. The touch is light as possible, which is enlightening with Telemann - as earthy and human as he is. I think if I was on a desert island and I could choose one composer.... The baroque guitar is a perfect compliment to the standard basso continuo and has a distinct role throughout. Love that Turkish March - it sounds like Telemann anticipated movie scoring. Cool stops and starts.
The recorder has the capability to be either the most beautiful instrument in the world, or the most annoying. Great performance!
So easy to learn to play...so difficult to learn to play WELL. :-)
im a recorder player and I aprove this comment
@@marysinclair4077 this is so true!! I’m an Alto recorder player and some of my friends who play guitars, violins, pianos and stuff don’t consider the recorder as a legitimate musical instrument . I wish they would understand that it’s as hard to learn it play well as any other instrument.
I think that it depends on training. The same thing can be said about a lot of instruments especially the violin or the piano.
@@mariastyrakova3992 just have them try to play something that sounds good on one, ha.
Holy Barokey ! Beyond.
I love the guitarist in this. Dude is doing serious playing - I don't think I've ever seen someone play guitar with that kind of attention.
LOL - I see my last comment on this was just a week ago - well I do love this piece.
This performance has significantly elevated my opinion of telemann. Amazingly well performed.
Stunning performances. In the best of Telleman and Quantz’s traditions. Vivacious.
The previous 61 comments say it all. I suspect it was Telemann himself who said 'Wow' at the end of the performance. Absolutely sublime. Absolutely sublime. I am humbled by the art of the whole performance and especially by the thrilling poetic empathy between the consummate soloists Anninka and Felipe. Bravo, bravo!
dunno maybe the level of play during his era was far greater then nowadays. just picture the baroque era in full glory and the harsh reality surrounding it. I can only assume people had more incentive to become better players. not to say that this sounds bad, i loved it. but i think we cant comprehend what telemann would find off this performance.
Telemann is my favourite!!!Miss the concerts I was playing!!!What an amazing video!Thank you!!!Tears in my eyes!!!Love from Greece!!! I'm half German and from the place that Telemann was from!!!
I was utterly depressed and in deep pain; your Art so helped me. Thank you very much. Patagonia, Argentina.
I’m also from Patagonia!
@@eliasmusic919 Hola!!!
Oh was für ein herrliches Stück und so phantastische Künstler. Man taucht richtig in eine andere Welt ab. Herzlichen Danke und liebe GrÜße aus Taiwan.
I have now listened to a few other performances of this piece and I keep coming back to this one.
I really like the energy they put into this - especially the presto.
OMG - I just melted - and so did my reservations about Telemann - welcome to my Pantheon of the perfectly wonderful !
I've clicked through so many videos, through so many incredible, weird ambient landscapes.. I feel like I'm going on a train trip, seeing a succession of crazy, never-before-seen scenes from history, important, weird musics through the window as I pass.. there's so much to explore. So many places to alight and dwell in the ambiences that are on offer. This stop, in particular is brilliant 🎶🎧
Wow this is just amazing. I love this concert. The orchestra sound is supreme. The director did a great job. Also the guitar guy is one of the best 😍😍😍
One of my favourite pieces of music, beautifully and sensitively performed. I love the solo entries.
Spectacular interpretation, Thank you! You motivate me to go back and struggle with the alto sonatas...again.
Best rendition ever...
This is the most amazing piece of music. Played extraordinarily well an telling a love story
Danke für den lohnenden Genuss als Ersatz für die ausgefallenen Telemann-Festtage in seiner Geburtsstadt Magdeburg
Love the Bremer Barockorchester, lovely music. Telemann is grossly underrated. We want more!
that's such a powerful and beautiful rendition... no joking, life really is worth living because of the beautiful art humans can create.
Mai visto un numero di commenti enorme
Suonano molto bene.
unique playing ,,players,..recorder for those who think is an easy instrument..finally is not,,with this amazing technique..beautiful composer and favorite ,,a big bravo to all players and a big thanks for u who shared with us !
I love Telemann, one of my favorite composers as well. And I like this ensemble, compliments for the great performance!
This is one of my new favorite pieces. And this amazing performance -- so much emotion! I love Telemann and this fabulous orchestra!
BRAVO !!!
My God! What a music! What a performance! Amazing!
Sublime ! les musiciens ont une complicité, une communion totale qui nous transporte dans l'univers éternel de la musique.
at the end of the Video somebody says "wow!. .. exactly.: WOW... what a music, and fantastic interprets
Came here a little by chance. Could not leave...Thank you for sharing this amazing performance. Beautiful.
A slice of heaven. So beautiful to have the soloist walk in gradually from the wings as the music builds. Interesting piece, well performed. Thank you for sharing.
My favorite piece by my favorite baroque composer. Well done.
This is the kind of performance that I would like to hear at court if I were a nobleman in the 18th century. Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful.
Never heard such a sublime rendition of this pease. Wonderful recorder and traverso! Bravo !!!! Can't stop playing it over and over again !
Well played...
I've heard a few interpretations of this concerto, some of them perhaps even more virtuosic, but this is the one that gives me goosebumps.
Ich schaue mir dieses Video immer und immer wieder an und jedesmal geniesse ich es so sehr! Herzlichen Dank Bremer Barockorchester!!!
Darf ich fragen, welches Modell/Hersteller Anninkas Blockflöte ist?
LG aus Italien
The traverso player is amazing. Each note is perfect and that's quite a performance on a traverso.
🥰 Thanks!
A happy, talented group of musicians.🐥
The presto movement is just epic, energic, agressive, chivalryous... Idk the concept for that word, but is like an epic rapier sword duel
Anninka Fohgrub, bellissimo. Unnachahmlich, zärtlich, einfach wunderschön, die beiden Larghi. Danke.
Bremer Barockorchester and soloists: no rhythm excesses, no supersonic speed, no soloists in convulsions. BUT: bright sound, perfect tuning and soooo clear interpretation ! This is a very nice and equilibrated execution of Telemann's concerto in E minor, with an introduction from the 3rd fantasia for solo flute, splitted into 2 flute parts.
Uncle Georg Philipp would have been proud of your interpretation. BRAVI !!!
This is the best performance of this concerto that I have ever heard.
One more thing. I have usually listened this piece with the basso continuo based on baroque lute and harpsichord, but this is the first time I see the baroque guitar. Lovely performance of this basso continuo.
Beautiful! Beautiful! The sound of these flutes is angelic! The music was very well performed. Congratulations to the soloists and to the orchestra as well.
Most wonderful baroc peace ever writen and played ❤
