The Challenges of Creating SEAL TEAM 6 | The DEVGRU Files - Episode 5

  • Dick Marcinko, founder of SEAL Team 6 and author of “Rogue Warrior,” sits down with Brandon Webb for an exclusive SOFREP interview. During this portion of the interview, he talks about the challenges of building SEAL Team 6 and going against the military norms of the time. He fundamentally changed how they dressed, were equipped, trained, and functioned as a unit. Without the foundation that Dick Marcinko created, SEAL Team 6 wouldn’t be the team that it is today.

I bet that Thor met Demo Dick at the gates and had a keg of cold grog under his arm, to welcome one of the greatest Viking warriors that traveled and swam in the oceans of the world. What makes his books so great and believable is that he lived those stories. Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. How many authors lived the stories they tell. They are almost always my favorites.

Truly a nice guy, but I don't know how he got his britches over those big giant balls. The guy has more bravery and nerves in one hand than most have in their entire body. Rick Marcinko was the man for our time and needs much the same way that Generals Grant and Patton and Winston Churchill. They were popular when they were most needed. But when major hostilities ceased, they were not only no longer needed, but also openly despised, ridiculed and pilloried. If it were not for men like these, this world would be under the thumb of totalitarian leaders. Maybe Grant wouldn't have played a role in this, but he was cast from the same mold as the other men. Under the definition of warrior, there should be a picture of Rick Marcinko.
