I bet that Thor met Demo Dick at the gates and had a keg of cold grog under his arm, to welcome one of the greatest Viking warriors that traveled and swam in the oceans of the world. What makes his books so great and believable is that he lived those stories. Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. How many authors lived the stories they tell. They are almost always my favorites.
Guys like this are way more significant than lebron James, Tom brady or Mike trout . Guys like this should be praised by our community alot more than they are.
Most warriors of this caliber are insanely humble. Praise makes them uncomfortable and often reject recognition outside their chain of command. Just rest assured they exist and be thankful.
While reading "Rogue Warrior" I was left with the impression that Marcinko thoroughly enjoyed SEAL training. It was like summer camp to him. RIP Commander. You did good . ..
He went to an entirely different BUDS training than guys today. He went when it was in Fort Pierce Florida as a UDT and then went through what is now called SQT.
I read his book when I was 15 and it changed my life. I joined the Navy and served my nation. He was always a voice in the back of my head encouraging me to be the best I could be in my rating. I’ll never forget him……EVER.
Rogue Warrior should be mandatory college reading. Along with Guns Germs and Steel , if we have to read books written by bird watchers then we should have to read books written by Warriors.. RIP Demo Dick

I have read his books, some of the first novels I started reading, and also met this man as a child at Barnes and noble. He really is an amazing man, and should be considered a warrior poet. Truly a nice guy, but I don't know how he got his britches over those big giant balls. The guy has more bravery and nerves in one hand than most have in their entire body. I did not know that he had passed. He was a huge influence for me standing tall and facing fear as an adult. Thank you Mr. Marcinko!
As a Recon Marine I can tell you every word about boats and the ocean it 100% correct..... I was a coxswain and a scout swimmer and we used zodiac and RIBS... They were some of the best days of my Marine Corps career... This man was a true inspiration of the special opps world and we all took a page from his book... Rest easy worrier for you are Not forgotten.
I was a Army Airborne Infantry Long Range Surveillance Scout and served with SF for four years as well. I did the RHIB Course when I was in the Navy before that doing VBSSS over in the Persian Gulf during the early 1990s. I was going to stay in the Navy and go SWCC( they still have a reserve Special Boat Team in Florida and New Orleans there are only about 500 SWCC. I went to the Army National Guard and then Active Army instead.
I've read his books and a bunch of others that mentioned him. We should be talking about the HALO [High Altitude Low Opening] when he opened his chute at ship level. The time in Cambodia he drank the booze with the cobra venom sac and hallucinated for a couple of days. This man is larger than life. Those are just sidebars to his actual wartime heroics and great leadership but Damn it! Very cool!!

I served w/the Marines as a Hospital Corpsman (HM3) in Viet Nam, 1966, was never a SEAL (doubt I have what it takes) but what he said about getting the chills hit home. We got rained on and night would fall, all our clothes wet & chills set in. Hadn’t thought about that in years. Much respect sir!

Funniest writing in one of his books is emptying a septic tank during a party with corrupt people in a large mansion in Mexico. Put in plastic explosives put excrement back in septic tank, drove truck away and stopped for this show. Hurt laughing so hard, beautiful criminals had crap all over themselves! What a giant. Respect. Loved his presentation of lack of U S Navy submarine fleet. He will not be forgotten.

It is easier to be a military guy and just do what is expected, but to think and move beyond that is creative thinking ... just like a writer in Hollywood or an artist. An interesting man of his time. Duncan Faulkner from the UK SBS spent a lot of time with Team 6. The SEALS ended up having smaller teams units like the UK after. The SBS and the RM Mountain Leader ( the latter takes over 2 years to qualify the full grade) specialise in arctic warfare,... and the North submarine umbilical to the top of the oil rig in rough seas is astonishing and has cost many lives.
Rick Marcinko was the man for our time and needs much the same way that Generals Grant and Patton and Winston Churchill. They were popular when they were most needed. But when major hostilities ceased, they were not only no longer needed, but also openly despised, ridiculed and pilloried. If it were not for men like these, this world would be under the thumb of totalitarian leaders. Maybe Grant wouldn't have played a role in this, but he was cast from the same mold as the other men. Under the definition of warrior, there should be a picture of Rick Marcinko.
I had a red cell member as a scoutmaster. I saw him spooked of the cold one time. Wind chill was -70F and the main part of the storm hadnt hit yet. He wasnt scared for himself. He had to go out and find one of the boys who had hunkered down outside to weather the storm. At night. He did it too. We all made it out. That storm hit -90F when the weather station was destroyed. Then it got cold

That was part of the exercises to test a bases SECURITY. All were released AFTER the test to strengthen OUR BASES against vulnerability. It was just PART of the exercise and NOT CRIMINAL IN ANY WAY. He was performong his duties, but it did EMBARASS some of these high up admirals...well boo hoo, truth hurts boys and richard and his med did it FOR YOUR OWN GOOD...
It’s true in Thailand it’s the hottest place I’ve ever been so humid but after a huge storm it takes the humidity right out of the air and afterwards there’s usually a really nice cool breeze.

Even though I was “Air Farce” (Air Force), I too read his books before leaving for boot camp and considered him a role model.

Denny Chalker was a E-9, SEAL & former US Army paratrooper. One Perfect Op was a great non fiction book about SEALs, SpecWar. Modern SOF.
