      Not true.
      Der schwarze Mann!
In german, we had to play this in Kindergarten to run away. "Who is scared of the black man?" Ask the Teacher. "NOBODY!" We had to scream. Then she asks: And if he comes? "THEN WE RUN!" Screams the class!
For a kid, if not explained these are black people. And this will stick with you. So it was, by many of my friends and me! And this is disgusting. So I believe Rammstein tries to show this too.

Its amazing how many people think that society is against each other as a whole. Think of how many people you meet each day. How many are trying to ruin your life or out to get you? The actual number is a very very small percentage but if you watch TV or go on social media you would think half the people were against you when in reality most just do not care. Fear draws clicks and viewers. Sadly this is having a massive negative impact because there will always be that one person who believes it.

  • @MusicalPilgrim

First time I saw the video - in the final scene I thought it's all about the refugee crisis in the last years. The first wave with millions of people leaving their countries came from Africa to Europe and I thought the colored mother with her child on the beach represents those refugees. The media shows us them coming, people get crazy by fear and want to protect their homes and life's.
But now - after watching a lot of reaction videos an reading many comments - I think this is only one of many fears the people have. In this example the refugee is the bogeyman - but he alway can represent other fears that the media sells - and people get crazy and have "AAAAAAAANGST!!!!!" ;)

    • @D4nt4lion
      @D4nt4lion 2 года назад +4

I highly doubt that it is about the refugee crisis per se, but far more about the current situation of the "German Angst".
Traditionally the "black man" in Germany was not exactly like the Boogeyman, it was more so a symbol for death in Germany, especially connected to the Black Plague and there might even be a connection to ritualistic dances of the old pagan tribes. The color black has a strong connection to death and the absence of light (life) in germanic traditions.
The video itself also takes into account how the "German Angst" is increasing during recent years and even new totalitarian laws are not causing an outcry within the country or a disposition towards a more and more openly hostile government, but more so Germans themselves get more divided, fearful and hateful against their fellow citizens. You can literally feel the fear and psychosis of people in the everyday life versus how they try to repress their fear and ignore red flags.
The ending scene using the African woman with her child within the fence is more so about the constant media barrage during the recent years about fear mongering connected to the refugee crisis in my opinion. Instead of taking steps that can better the situation of people in need in their home countries or near their home countries the emphasise of politics was to rather create fear about the situation of a constant stream of refugees and it's impact combined with a dogmatic message that "We can do it!" and "Everybody needs to be helped!" when in reality the refugees were treated miserably and merely used as low wage workers to fill a hole in Germany's low wage employment.
The German people these days seem to be mostly paralyzed by these contradicting messages and the playing off German people against each other using the media is a common scenario.
Paralysed and divided people are a gift to corrupt politicians, bad journalists and big companies alike, seeing as Germany has experienced heinous corruption in politics and insane theft of tax payer money during the corona years with little to no outcry or criticism within the German paralysed, divided and fearful public.
The people sitting on the couch just eating while watching these pictures seems to be another reference to people's paralysis and inability to act in a proper way.
In Germany most people still try to convince themselves about the fact that everything bad is just very temporary and soon everything will be "the way it was before".
The economic downfall, a less and less trustworthy government and other problems which will increase during the coming years are completely ignored.
The smashing of the TV in the end could also mean that many Germans these days are fed up with these fear mongering barrages.
Further nourishing fear mongering using images of a refugee crisis in times in which fear and psychosis and even empathy are more connected to a virus or the outbreak of a nuclear war has triggered the reaction to be fed up with the media saying "it is too much" in many Germans around me. Trust into the media has never been this low before in a country with a traditionally naïve and blindly trusting majority of people.

Today "black man" in German has a double meaning. It can both mean "people of African descent" and "boogeyman" (like metaphorical). So this song is, by my understanding, both about racism and xenophobia, but also about paranoia in general. It could also be about covid or the outbreak of WW3. I think it's in a kind about the spirit of ower time, that everyone is about to loose their shit about no reason, on both sides of the political spectrum. Remember terrorism? I know I will piss a lot of people off on both sides. Everyone has some reason to be anxious, I know, and everybody is convinced, that their reason is justified and I'm pretty sure that yours is. No need to explain me - I have heard them all.

    • @D4nt4lion

It's very clearly about racism, and it's very much like Rammstein. They do go for american racism a lot in the video, with the typical white guy with lawnmower and cheerleaders which is a more american depiction of white people, adding the assault rifles is just icing on the cake. The song in general, though, is about racism anywhere.

This is a political song, tackling the migration crisis in germany in 2015. He sings "wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann", "who fears the black man". So refugees from africa. You can see a black woman and a girl behind barbed wire, at the beginning and the end of the video. At the end of the song they eat chocolate covered marshmellows. These were called "N***** Kisses" back in the day in germany. We don't do this anymore, because it's racist. But some idiots still call them like that. However, the bandmembers are portrayed as the old white men here, zombified and mowing their lawn, having barbecues. Till is portrayed as the madman in a straightjacket who spreads fear, propaganda and hatespeach over the internet. Just think of people like Alex Jones, we have these in germany, too. And it works. They are in fear and paying money for building walls and buying weapons. At the end you see them watching african refugees on TV, while african refugees are watching whites on smartphones. Seperated by fear. So in the end this song is about fear, racism and xenophobia, and the involvement of the media. Not necessarily the mainstream media, but the internet, social media, and the hatemongers that are trying to use these. Fear is an industry these days, and it's profitable.

Hi! I‘m from Germany and can tell you what‘s about.
When I saw the video for the first time, I didn’t figured it out either - the "after scene" was what brought me the total Aha!-effect:
The African mother with her child on the beach with barbed wire - and we (There
just the band) see this on TV.
People tend to be "afraid" - sometimes for the most
stupidest reasons. I think that the song was
the time when the big refugee
    waves broke out.
Germany's policy was to be humanitarian and to accept many
many refugees - at that time from the
African continent. In the majority of
Germans, this has triggered great fear - in part
certainly also existential fears such as: "They are taking away our jobs away from us, raping „our“ women… - List goes on…
Well symbolized in the video, how the petty-minded citizens protecting their valuables with barbed wire, walls and cameras, that no one takes their stuff.
We are subject to the spell of the media (faces are pulled into the TV) - the TV is destroyed, because you don't want to see what the news announces. First with a machine gun, then at the end with Till’s lawn mower.
Ingenious Clou are the candy at the end. They were called years ago N***erkisses - yea crazy. Today they are called Chocolatekisses. Everybody loves them and they eating it in the video to underline the racism in the society. The video - the song - it is simply another ingenious Rammstein masterpiece. In my opinion the black man here is the refugee of a foreign country, which is taken in by us. The intro, in which the father already warned against the bogeyman (blackman)- these are the sayings of the dark (german) past.
Flake has already been quoted here, who spoke of the "madness of the people".
Did you noticed that every time Till hits the TV with the loan mover, the color comes back little by little?
"The insanity of the people" - nice theme

I think the emphasis is likely on religion and how we're taught to believe the world is inherently evil and so are some groups of people. They're probably calling attention to fear being toxic when it's a focus and how labeling people as evil is probably not the best, but more importantly it's probably kinda fucked to believe that all men are fallen and the world is cursed due to the prince of darkness (Satan) being in control as the Bible teaches? Idk

Any Rammstein fans that disagree explain the lawn mower and rifle shooting through their built up walls scene along with them specifically choosing the words "black man". They're not being racist, it's the opposite of racist. They're subtlety calling attention to BLM issues

they dont really have a word for boogyman in germany so black man or shadow man is their term. the song doesnt translate well out of context

Schwartzen mann literally means black man. But it doesn't have to be referenced to black community. It may be just some evil guy from darkness by whom parents in many cultures scary their children if they are not obey them
