Ah man, I was meaning to make this very series of videos, I even had spreadsheets of games ready! I'd like to say that the comparisons are kind of unfair as you seem to be running the PS2 games on an emulator with the internal resolution upped beyond 480i/480p; meanwhile, you've presented the Saturn games at their original resolutions. Some of these games like Die Hard (and as you pointed out, Panzer Dragoon) also have a Saturn mode that would have been good for comparison with the Saturn originals. Many of these games also have 240p patches for even further parity with the Saturn versions, so I was planning to showcase these in my video. I was also going to look at PS1/SAT multiplats' compatibility on POPStarter. Overall though, a very comprehensive analysis of these versions, luv Sega. Looking forwards to the Dreamcast video!
You should 100% make the video. Always good to see other perspectives and the additional content you suggested will be great to see. Will subscribe! You are correct on the emulators. I prefer the Saturn at OG resolution but the PS2 upscaled. Thanks for the watch and comment. Really appreciated
The fact PS2 ended being the definitive Sega console is something I actually found myself about 15 years ago, collectiong almost all the Sega conversion you gladly displayed in this video. Also, I agree regarding the good and BAD Sega PS2 conversion (Decathete remake is a real mess, the only game which "beat" it in the worst conversion department is Golden Axe in 3D, pure agony), overall a very well done video, well done. P.S. the fact SS hold its own in a 3D conversion against Model 2 hw (which is abot 10 times more powerful) explain how good was these conversions at the time, this cannot be said about PS2, which thoretically is 20-30 times more powerful than Model2 hw (so, about 300 times more powerful than SS...)
Thanks for the comment. Yes these videos are never popular but something I wanted to make so appreciate you taking the time to comment. Yes what the Saturn was able to do was incredible. It’s understandable the care wasn’t put into the PS2 ports as they were budget releases but they certainly should have been on a par with the PS2.
Good morning from Portugal, I loved the program, I was inspired and I'm going to make a compilation of all the games from Part 1 and Part 2 for Windows 10 and I'll share a link to the project soon, Best regards.
I'm enjoying this series, yeah, isn't it funny that the PS2 ended up being more of a Sega console than the Dreamcast in the end? I'm not sure, but I've been hearing a few random crackling sounds through the narration, I wonder if it's from the microphone your using? Someone's it's hard to listen to the narration as well because the games background sound overlaps at times.
Hey Roberto, yes funny but also sort of sad. You are not wrong. I am in desperate need of a new microphone. I am looking to pick one up very soon. Also sound editing isn’t my thing, I noticed in the Dynamite Deka section in particular the gameplay was way too loud. Need to keep working on that. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment!
That's great, yeah I subscribed and I'll be following the next videos. Totally agree with your remarks on Sonic R, the Saturn original has a charm to it, vibrant colors and backgrounds and the chunky character low poly models and so on. I won1t lie, if I had a PS2 only and the Sonic Gems with this version, though, it would still be a bless and the extra weather effects and stuff would still be great. I also agree with Virtua Racing on the Saturn but it has a few things going for it that wouldn't be there, had SEGA themselves developed it, Time Warner at least understood that console games required more content other than 3 tracks an a Time Atta]ck Mode, this version of Virtua Racing doesn't play like the arcade, but the extra tracks, modes and cars are great, we can also adjust to its gameplay with time. Can you imagine how Sonic R would be 10 times better if it had like 20 tracks instead of 5? This game is great but it's also too short. The problem with SEGA is that their arcade roots blinded them when considering console games, the Playstation had arcade games like every console should, but it delivered many more in-depth games, even in genres such as racing games, it's not for nothing that the original Gran Turismo is the best seller for the console, followed by its sequel. That's not to say the Saturn doesn't have exclusive masterpieces, though, I grew up playing the Saturn, but wow, did games like Manx TT played fine but had almost nothing to offer, almost 2 tracks to race on. Fortunately we ended up receiving Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Bulk Slash, Burning Rangers and more. You probably don't enjoy RPGs much, but I played so many on the Saturn and Dragon Force was one of them, it was also released for the PS2 with new artwork and stuff like that, I think there are a few more Saturn games on the PS2, bit I could be wrong. In any case, I'm looking forward to the next videos!
Yes, Sonic R with more tracks and a little more focus on racing could have been incredible. I think you are right that SEGA could have done more the bring more content. That being said the PS did have a few more years post the Saturns demise and gaming changed fast. I actually don’t hate VR on the Saturn. Like you say it’s not like the arcade but it’s not a bad game if you look past it. Dragon Force I love, I never considered the PS2 version as I figured it would be in Japanese which would make the game largely unplayable. Is this not the case. There is also an English translation of the second game which is fantastic. Potentially a few more, I left out games like SFA2 from the street fighter collection and Metal Slug from Metal slug anthology but there could be a few more that’s for sure.
Yes the DC had a lot of arcade games based on the Naomi ports but there were so many fantastic games that weren’t based on arcade games. Shenmue, Skies Of Arcadia, Resident Evil: CV, Grandia II, Sonic Adventure, Headhunter, Rayman 2. It’s short lifecycle meant we never saw it’s true potential.
All this games look opaque, kind of blurry, dont represent the Sega legacy to me, The Dreamcast had better visuals with standard av cable than the overrated ps2, All of this released for the Dreamcast would have been awesome.

Not sure how I missed all these at the time. Great vid
Glad you like them!

Good morning. That sounds great! Can’t wait to see it.
Thank you for your honesty
Thanks for the comment!
Great vid, didn't know a lot of these had gotten on the PS2. Is it me or is your mic a bit crackly?
Thanks very much, yes you are correct. I need to invest in a new mic. Who knows what Christmas will bring
Interesting. Sega released some great versions on the PS2 I didn't even know about. Good work
Yes, some of the SEGA ages collection were simply terrible. But aside from Decathlete the games hold up
@@thegamelounge659 And the Outrun game, Sega really sh4t the bed on that one
Haha 100%

Dreamcast was too arcady but fun 😅
Yes the DC had a lot of arcade games based on the Naomi ports but there were so many fantastic games that weren’t based on arcade games. Shenmue, Skies Of Arcadia, Resident Evil: CV, Grandia II, Sonic Adventure, Headhunter, Rayman 2. It’s short lifecycle meant we never saw it’s true potential.
I never thought PS2 had so many Sega’s games. In my mind, GameCube and Xbox were the machines for Sega. Great video!
Thanks, yes SEGA spread some really fantastic games across all 3 consoles that generation!
Great video.
Thanks, certainly my most ambitious so far
❤❤

I’m totally with you on that one. If SEGA had continued all the GC, XBOX and PS2 games would arguably been on the Dreamcast.
