- **KEY UPDATES SINCE THIS VIDEO WAS PUBLISHED:
1) Most BMAT universities have now switched to the UCAT exam (including Oxford and Cambridge)
2) The UCAS personal statement changes will only come into effect for those applying in 2025 for 2026 entry medicine**
From 2024 onwards, there will be two major changes to the application process to UK medical schools. These are: 1) a change in format of the UCAS personal statement, and 2) the scrapping of the BMAT admissions test. This video talks about the implications of these changes and how best to proceed with your medicine application.

Thank you for your good heart.
Thank You for the work and for making it free!
Hey Rohan, do you have any information about the requirements for international (SA) students of you’re not doing the IEB/Cambridge curriculum.
I don't off the top of my head, but check out my video for international applicants for more information: ruclips.net/video/UBEHOq3Z62w/видео.html
Hey, I just started a levels and am perusing medicine to become a neurosurgeon, do you have any links which relate to medicine, e.g. working in labs or something which you could give me. I love your videos and really want to get into Cambridge.
Hi, thanks for your question. Unfortunately I don't have any contacts who could help with work experience. Check out my free ebook (linked in the description box) for more information about work experience
Hi im in yr 12 right now and we have to apply this September , but I want to apply in 2024 after doing my A-levels essentially taking a gap year ( i don't want to do deferred entry tho)
is this possible ??
and will this change drastically effect me ?
Hi Akhil - yes it's definitely possible to apply in a gap year. The change will not affect you more than anyone else!
Thank you so much
Also, at 1:44 - how do you answer the extenuating circumstances (what does this mean?)
It means if you have anything which puts you at a disadvantage compared to other candidates e.g. a significant illness, or major life event etc. They will take this into account when reviewing your application
Bit silly but would getting Covid twice during school years count in this case?@@RohanYesudian
Does this mean they will put more emphasis on GCSEs? I got mid-tier GCSEs (9,9,9,8,8,8,7,7,6,6) and I was really hoping to work hard for the BMAT so I could have less emphasis placed on my GCSEs. Is there anything else I can do?
We don't know how these changes will affect the weighting of different parts of the application. There will probably be either another admissions test as a replacement, or the UCAT will be used instead. These are things to focus on, as well as other parts of the application (work experience, supercurricular activities etc)
@nlonal I didn't do too well on my GCSE's this year but after digging in and asking someone who has just got into Cambridge he said the GCSE grades he got didn't have a huge part but it was his personal statement and his predicted grades for is a levels that mattered.(he got all nines for GCSE and 4 A*for a levels this year. but he has gone to do natural science (physical) so I don't know if it is different for them
Do you reckon i have a chance ive already done badly in my gcses my only 7 was in math and the rest of my grade was 6s and a 5 in language i was very disappointed
Hi Karl, i'm sorry to hear you are disappointed. Most applicants will have 7s and above for most of their subjects, so you may be at a disadvantage if you want to apply for medicine.
@@RohanYesudian Alevel and UCAT is what significantly matters most though, right?
@@karlllllllllllllye. U gotta do sick in ur ucat and a levels tho
So what shud we do in 2024, which test shud we go for when applying for medicine in cambridge??
You have to finish your school exams, and you have to do UCAT.
We haven't been told what the replacement for the BMAT admissions test is yet. I will update the ebook as soon as I find out!
Fam I'm an homeschooled international student with some research experience and owner of a private cancer research organization will I get a chance to apply for med school.. is there any options available... if u have any info regarding these pls lemme know....
Hi, I can't advise about your individual situation, I'm sorry. Maybe some of my medicine application videos will help though?
So, if I am starting year 12 now, will I be affected?
yes
Will this run into 2025?
Nothing is confirmed yet, but it is likely that these changes will also apply in 2025
i havent watched your video yet but is the thumbnail true T^T
its truuueee but i was already studying for the bmat thanks so much for your video
You're welcome! All the best with studying!
