Great review. Got a 42 on the way. Your presentation and delivery are so above the average You Tuber. You are precise and sincere. You don't stumble or stutter. I hope you are earning a good living interacting with people.
Great review. Kudos for keeping the original scratched crystal. I personally think it adds to the toolish vibe or nature of this rugged watch. I have always loved the Pelagos line, and late last year, I picked up the Pelagos 39 for myself. I love how legible the Pelagos line is. And Pelagos divers are true snowflakes, because unlike the Black Bays, the Pelagos line has both the snowflake dial and handset, making it a true snowflake diver from Tudor. Again, great review. Enjoyed every second.
I have that one in blue. It has the in house movement, with the 72 hour power reserve. Great watch. I don’t wear it much anymore. Maybe I will wear it today.
Regarding cracked sapphire crystals: I too have had a difficult relationship with them. I have cracked the sapphire crystal on my Tudor BB GMT and also on my Rolex Explorer 39mm MkII. In both cases, I sent the watch back to a Rolex Service Center for repair. Unfortunately, repair and maintenance are a part of opening just about anything.
Thanks for the great review - very professional production! I love the Pelagos too. My particular preference is the blue version. I have a couple of Rolex dive watches and haven’t managed to pick up a Pelagos yet but it’s only a matter of time. With that said, the new Zenith Defy Diver looks great, albeit at a cost.
The Zenith may be a bit colourful for you - it’s got orange on the dial! But 42mm grade 5 titanium (so a bit more scratch resistant than the Pelagos), and comes with quick change titanium bracelet, rubber strap with titanium deployant, NATO strap with titanium pin buckle, display case back etc. It looks better in the RUclips videos (like WatchAdvisor) than the static shots. Well I like it at least, but then I don’t mind a bit of colour.
I picked up the blue dial date in 2023. It’s a beautiful color and I think of it as my white gold Rolex Smurf. Lol. It’s just a gorgeous watch. I own three other Tudor Pro, opaline gmt and Black Bay 41. I own Rolex submariner Starbucks and mint green date just, Grand Seiko gmt and King Seiko, but I always go back to my Tudor Blue date Pelagos. Enjoy it brother
Thanks for this video. I also have 6.5 inch and worried the watch is too big but the Pelagos 39 doesn't really interest me. I think I would do a BB58 instead of a Pelagos 39. I purchased a San Martin Pelagos 39 homage to test drive.
Hey Chris, saw your other video on the GMT; It is becoming true that you can never beat a predecessor, this Pelagos, when it came out, we complained and complained about how thick and over sized it was. So many media outlets tried to rescue the watch by categorizing it as a proper tool watch. Well, soon as the 39 came out, I gravitated towards this, I love the cut out for the markers and how the markers are properly highlighted because on the 39, the markers seem to be floating around. This just seems very tangible and better thought out. Only downside is that I have heard of the bezel wearing out.
Oh man, I haven't heard about the bezel issues. Makes sense though. It'll be interesting to see how it ages and if that worn in bezel feel is something we grow to love over time just like the other scratches and nicks.
Thanks! I've got a video on the Black FXD. Absolutely love that watch. It's probably my favorite, but every time I get the original Pelagos out I fall back in love with it. Can't go wrong with either.
Thanks for the great review. I’ve had mine about 3 years now and never looked back. I too love the matte black bezel it’s definitely more “me” than something polished. Love that you want to keep it for your kids I’m hoping to pass mine on one day and hopefully they’ll appreciate it 😂.
I get the idea of patina and character however I would replace that crystal. That’s not character it’s damage. I think with acrylic it’s nice when it’s scratched up and it adds some wear but this is much more severe.
It ended up getting replaced. The power reserve seemingly malfunctioned shortly after filming this video so the watch went back to the Rolex service center in Houston. While it was there they asked if I wanted to fix the crystal for $160 so I just had them do it. All good now.
Interesting that you find titanium scratching more than stainless. Just by pure hardness you technically need something harder than itself to scratch it. Most likely it’s the oxidation surface not actually a scratch per say but great review 🤙🏼
Thanks! I'm not a metallurgist, but I believe that the grade 2 titanium that Tudor uses is much more susceptible to scratching than stainless steel. They use grade 2 because it is softer an much easier to work with than grade 5 titanium. Grade 5 would be unlikely to scratch, but the manufacturing costs to produce a watch from that material would be much higher.

Thanks! I need to produce some more videos, but life keeps getting in the way...in a good way!
The outstanding legibility never ceases to amaze me. Grail material for sure.
Its a keeper for sure.
Really enjoy your delivery. It’s very down to Earth. We could use more of this type of watch channel.
Thank you so much!

Yes! I forgot to mention the hands design. I do love the overall aesthetic.
Great review, Chris! Keep’ em coming!

The blue is gorgeous.
Nice words, how is the comfort on rubber strap?
cool channel and you've got great energy - subbed! nice proton hoody by the way
Great review. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!

Nice review. I don’t own one yet but I like the “finer” Grip on the bezel of the original vs. the newer one. Thanks
Yes, the bezel grip is definitely different.
Thanks for the great review - very professional production!

Thank you! I'll have to check out the Zenith. I'm overdue for a blue watch...perhaps something in the near future!

Great format, great info, great video 👍

Let me know how you like it!
Pelagos all day everyday. I’ve got a fxd mn. I can’t wait, when they put the Metas in the Pelagos and I will get another one. Great Video.
Thank you! I agree. Looking forward to the next iteration on this great watch.

Nice Review. Thx for your Video. I own the pelagos as well and I love this Watch. Its my everyday watch
Great watch for everyday wear or for just special occasions. It is very versatile.
I’ve been really close to buying either the OG Pelly or the black fxd so this video is right up my alley. Love the channel man

Excellent review, thanks for sharing. ⭐️
Thank you so much!
Hardness is not the same as resistance to cracking. The fact is that mineral glass will scratch more easily that sapphire but will be harder to crack.
What cloth straps do you use?
I have a couple of nato straps from Bark and Jack and I've been really happy with them.
Waiting for a Pele GMT, date and titanium for the win and love all the squares 😄
That would be killer. I'd be in for sure too.

They'd better appreciate it!

The Sub has a lot of text and no one complains.
Very true.

Pelll-uh-can (the bird). pel-Ahh-gos (the watch). Greek word means Sea. Please never call your beautiful watch “pelly”.
