    At 03:47 you point that air 'gun' towards you... let the nail be miss directed because of a wood knot, and you will not be at your daughter wedding, or be a 'grandpa.' Stay safe!

    The progress is looking great! The north end of the attic area isn't going to be finished off as a loft? I don't know why I was thinking you were going to have a loft area up there. That'd be a fun area to hang out looking out the huge windows. You're going to have half a basketball court sized attic storage space... haha

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  3 года назад

      No it's all enclosed, not enough headroom for a loft. Our original house plans had a loft in it. It would require much higher walls and 2x12 joists.

  • @stevenfranks4537
    @stevenfranks4537 3 года назад

    Have you noticed top plate of walls need blocking for drywall , stay with it

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  3 года назад

      Yes, can't do that until joist blocking is complete.

  • @Outtahide540
    @Outtahide540 3 года назад

    Just wondering not trying to be critical at all. Where the ceiling joists come together at midpoint on the top plate of the center wall, can’t those just lap over each other? Seems it might be a little wasteful but would make that point stronger with extra material and nails than butting them together. Hope that makes sense and the house is looking fantastic

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  3 года назад +1

      It does make sense and I even contacted the engineer. I was told they must be joined together with a minimum 24 inch solid plate of either 2x8, 5/8 or 3/4 ply. So I'm just going to do what my inspector told me, build to the plans lol.

    • @Outtahide540
      @Outtahide540 3 года назад

      Ah ok. Then they will be better connected. Got it. Thanks muches. Great work

    What would be the max. span (wall to wall) for a 2 by 12 soft wood ceiling rafters (12 being vertical), that would not bend under snow or it's own weight? i'm looking for a direct approximate answer, i just don't get the online tables ?

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Год назад

      You'd need an engineering program to answer that question. It factors live and dead psf loads.

  • @RacingFan94
    @RacingFan94 2 года назад

    How far apart are the ceiling joist? I am currently framing a bathroom in a barn and I was clueless on how to frame the ceiling until I saw this video! Seems simple.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  2 года назад

      24 inches on center for a light dead load. 12 inches on center for my loft with a live and dead load for storage above. This is 2x8 southern yellow pine, if not using yellow pine 2x10 material must be used for similar strength.

    • @RacingFan94
      @RacingFan94 2 года назад

      @@TKCL awesome, we will use it for storage as well, thank you so much!

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  2 года назад +1

      If storing much, I'd definitely move up to 2x10s or 2x12s and put down 3/4 inch sheathing.

    Looking good Andrew! So bare with me because I'm not sheetrock guy. Will you hang ceiling sheetrock first and the walls will hold along those edges or will you have to add dead wood along the tops of all your walls? Again, I've not done whole room sheetrock so might be a crazy question? Dang you've come a long way buddy!

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  3 года назад +1

      I'm placing backing on the tops of the walls for sheetrock next. I've been told you always install the ceiling sheetrock first.

    Great channel and showing us how to get things done! Who manufactured your trusses and are you totally satisfied with them?

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  3 года назад

      Backwoods Buildings in Chipley Florida. This is the second set of barn trusses they have built for me. First ones were perfect, this second set has a bow in them, most likely from welding or not being clamped correctly. That's going to make trimming out a little more difficult later on.
