    So let me get this straight. Our hitting philosophy is to wear out the opposing starter and get to their bullpen sooner. Our pitching philosophy is to pull our starter after 5 innings and rely on our bullpen. This is bipolar!

    • @enjoyer6201
      @enjoyer6201 Месяц назад +1

      Or the pitching philosophy is to set a pitch or innings limit that your organization believes will protect the arm of a young budding star. That maybe you need to treat him a little differently than you would an established veteran because the kid only pitched 120 innings last year. They’ve done a pretty good job of developing him, as you can plainly see from the results. Maybe they know what they are doing.

    • @glockensig
      @glockensig Месяц назад +2

      @enjoyer6201 Unfortunately, they are developing him for the Yankees or some other team....while our team suffers losing season after losing season.....wash, rinse, repeat! AND no....they don't know they are doing......

      @enjoyer6201 A well conditioned. Pitcher/ athlete. Should be. Able to pitch 200 plus innings a year.
      Oh wait that is the threshold now. Totally ridiculous.
      120 innings years ago was a long reliever/ starter.
      Give me a break if can't go close to 200 innings a year. 5 innings a game that is pathetic. That is not on the pitcher. Bet he could go more. Why does not someone ask if he could. Hmm wonder what would they say. 😊

      Limiting the pitch count and the innings of two bright young stars to protect their arms is now controversial. So what if they broke that innings or pitch limit and one of these guys blows out their arm? I bet you would probably whine about that, too.

    • @TVResults
      @TVResults Месяц назад +1

      @@enjoyer6201 an arm can be blown anytime, he went 80 something pitches in prior starts. He was built up prior to earn making the team. Now all of the sudden we need to protect his arm? Look at Strasberg, things happen when they happen. It is part of the game, nobody can predict it. There is risk when they step on the field. Look at Cruz last year, one play out for the season. Moreta just this year for the Bucs, nothing odd, just got injured when he did. It is baseball.

    • @meddyven
      @meddyven Месяц назад +1

      @@enjoyer6201You have to sit back and wonder what is wrong with the game nowadays, that wasn't for the first 70/80 years previous. Every one is a damn china doll now. Pitchers routinely threw complete games, nearly every start. Back in the day, you didn't have guys bulking up in the weight room. Putting on muscle is good, but when it makes your ligaments and tendons sooo tight, they have no flexability, this, I believe is why pitchers are blowing their arms out. Perfect example, is Giancarlo Stanton. That guy is sooo tight, it's no wonder he keeps popping Quads, etc. The human body needs room to stretch. Anything that is too tight, will snap!

      Shelton's a total puss . It was bad enough when Hurdle would use his " players need a blow" ( day off) schtick routinely and now this. There aren't enough Mike Maddux's ( Rangers pitching coach) that have smarts, anymore. Instead we are stuck with the 3 stooges..Cherington, Marin and Shelton. And, don't get me started on Mr. called 3rd strike Haines. Man the hell up. This is the big leagues. Go big or go home. Go home, which is exactly where Suwinski should be. Pink slip him!

    Idk maybe management just wants to pretend they’re real baseball GMs and not frauds so they do something just to do something, “uhh look we’re watching pitch counts, that’s a thing, right guys?” .. it kinda reminds me of Keller’s first year when he was still developing, he had a game were he was throwing a no hitter through 7 and they pulled him anyway and went on to lose the game. Kellers next performances were the epitome of deflated.

  • @stevej.1428
    @stevej.1428 Месяц назад

    Baseball is clearly broken when analytics and the fear of potential pitcher injury supersedes wins. It started when the Nationals yanked Strasburg early in the playoffs in 2012 due to a preset inning count they weren't going to back down from, and now every young pitcher of any great value who hasn't yet proved they are a workhorse will get pulled after a set pitch or inning count no matter where the game is at that point, let alone the season. And everyone is ok with this. No point in bringing up Skenes this season - who accidentally admitted this spring he was on a 150-160 inning count this season - until he's proven he can pitch at least 200 innings and a complete season without helicopter mom level monitoring from the GM. What's the point? Especially if they are chasing a pennant and it's all for not because the pitcher is more important than the game or the results? And especially when the team is the woebegone Pirates who might only ever have one shot every 30 years (being generous here) to ever reach a World Series.

There’s yet to be a demonstrable correlation between pitch/inning limits and an overall decreased risk of injury. Pitchers have never been more tightly regulated and they’re getting injured exponentially more. Better pray his body can adjust to throwing 100 pitches consistently mid-late summer.
