Nice shave Matthew, those vintage razors worked then and now. I really enjoy using those older razors and that Burma Shaves soap puck was from the 90's, I remember using one once and the scent wasn't to strong back then. Have a great day
Hotel Cecil is one of my favorites, and I have the cologne and EDP. The concept of a soap puck in a mug intrigues me with the simplicity. I took two sticks of Palmolive and grated and melted it in a mug some time back, and I've been using that exclusively for about a month. It's quick and easy and the Palmolive has good slickness, but unfortunately they discontinued it. I'm rather burned out on the whole wet shaving hobby, and yours is the last channel I am still subscribed to. After spending a lot of money on this stuff I'm down to my PAA S.S. Ascension Twist razor, Simpson M7 Ivory brush, and Dorco blades for every wet shave. Now I need to figure out how to get rid of all of this hardware I don't use.
Once a person figures out what razor and blade combo they like, I believe that happens. I would post the stuff you want to sell on the buy sell trade. Did you know you can find palmolive cream in a tube? Thanks for supporting my channel and watching!
I absolutely love this era of Gillette. They shave so well, and I think they're the most beautiful razors Gillette ever made. It's probably the coolest case as well. These, pre-war Techs, and the English Aristocrats are my favorite razors they ever made. I somehow stumbled upon a 1926 for $39 that still has the little protective cardboard under the cap. I got it so cheap because the listing misspelled Bostonian. I don't have the heart to use it. I haven't even polished it. The last time it was polished was probably at the factory. I have a couple of the other ones that have been well used, and I shave with those instead. I know it's crazy to think like this, but this was their equivalent of the Mach 3 or Fusion or whatever they're selling now. I remember reading that Gillette was making 40,000 razors a day in the 1920s. In 1921, they sold 500,000 of these in 2 months. That just blows my mind because these things look like a work of art, and not just a regular razor. Look how far we've come as a society that we used to make stuff like this in the U.S. for a daily shaver compared to the stuff they make today. Great video!
I have a few of these razors each has a different name but all fall under the “new standard” design. The boxes and cases being different. It is mind boggling that they would sold many. I believe this to be the best razors they made, true craftsmanship. Thanks for watching Lee
You proved that we don't need an expensive artisan soap that produces or a $200 safety razor to get a close, comfortable shave. Of course, vintage razors in good condition aren't cheap either 😉 Have a great week.
Some of Burma Shave's old advertisement was anti soap-puck. They were an early adopter of the brushless shaving cream in a tube. So what you have there are 10 or 15 year old pseudo retro pucks.
I remember all the commotion about brushless shave cream. I guess in an attempt they made the pucks and brushes to reach new customers. Thanks for watching Lars!
@@lawrence1md O.k. I did some research. It was originally a company that produced linament & salves but in 1925 they came up with a brushless shaving cream first in a jar and soon after in a tube. It had a nitch market until they started advertising with all the billboards on the highways. Then it became the second highest seller of Shaving cream. In 1963 it was bought out by Phillip Morris during a time when they began expanding into products beyond Tobacco. They had already bought the American Safety Razor Company in 1960. Burma-Shave lost popularity in the 70's along with DE wet shaving in general. In 1977 they dumped American Safety Razor Company & Burma-Shave. Burma-Shave was out of production for a while but was brought back as a soap puck along with a gift kit including a mug & brush in 1997. The irony was the original Burma-Shave company made fun of soap pucks and brushes as slow and old fashioned. (In the end American Safety Razor went bankrupt in 2010 and was bought by Energizer who spun it off as Edgewell. They still have the Schick & Persona and Wilkinson Sword Brands.)
always great to watch you shave. Thank you .

Great shave with a beautiful razor. You can't go wrong with the vintage razors. And using Burma Shave soap just added to it.
It’s a great razor, in looks and shave quality. I enjoyed the Burma shave, I have a Williams puck coming up soon. Thanks for watching Scott!

Yeah, I have the cream in the tube, but it doesn't smell or perform the same for me. What site is that buy, sell, trade on?
@@chrislj2890 on Facebook search “wetshaving buy sell” it should pull up
I have a Burma Shave puck as well as a Sea Forth. My Burma is like yours, the Sea Forth is stronger, it seems to have retained some of the oils more
20 years is a lot to ask for a scent oil to stay potent. 😀 thanks for watching Tobin!
