I like that Imhotep bows to his servants when he revies them. 3000 years and he still sees them as his loyal followers; maybe even friends.

Let's be honest, Johnathan is the best character in the film. Unlike other comedy relief characters he's not stupid, he just doesn't take anything too seriously and is funny naturally

I remember watching a vid about how accurate the mummy movies were, it said lighting a match like that was not possible. it was just for comedy/action. *could be wrong tho*
I watched this movie on AMC and they had alot of facts about the film that would show up during the film on the bottom of the screen and this particular bit was done with sand paper taped to Ardeth Bay's cheek to make it work. amazing what they do to get such a small detail to work.
As a kid you see treasure, as an adult you see priceless historical artifacts.

I take that back, as an adult I see a 3,000 year old solid gold coin in mint condition estimated at $35,000 only to be offered $12,100 because those are auction prices and it will sit for a long time according to Rick Harrison of PawnStars.

The way that Jonathan has had enough being on the sidelines and goes all out in steps was hilarious. Snatching up Rick’s gun, starts open fire, then lobs the weapon near the end when it was out of ammo. That got me laughing so hard 😂

@Lumine Moon No, this is *NOT* the original one. The original Mummy is the 1932 Boris Karloff film, which was proceeded by the Kharis series in the 40s. And there was also the series of British Hammer Mummy films like the 1959 film with Christopher Lee.

and it was pretty accurate too. Before it was discontinued in production, strike matches can be ignited by striking it on rough surface like boot sole, sandpaper, even stubble.
There should have been a series of these , with O'Connell , Jonathan, and Ardeth travelling round ,raiding places and fighting supernatural beasties.
They did try a 1 season animated series cartoon after I think the second one came out.

I really don't know who's my favorite character in the mummy, it's a tie between Jonathan and Rick. Rick has the strengths and techniques of a barbarian and while Jonathan is easily frightened sometimes, his goofy antics and knowledge of hieroglyphics saves the day.
Beny is up there too.

Well im glad he didnt use a torch to light a very unstable and known to randomly explode dynamite. Or not so randomly, mostly cuz it is introduced to a heat source (torch) or its very dry and ignites from rubbing heat ? With that short of a fuse it extremely dangerous to even ignite with a match, not to mention a torch.
Actually, according to Fraser's commentary, there was a match card attatched to the beard.
Of course, a torch isn't macho or quick enough.
Damn this movie never gets old, you can watch this and number 2 over and over

A good mix of villain and comedy.
They’re great with the little character moments, like when Jonathan grabs Rick’s guns. It’s such a Jonathan thing to do but it’s just a small moment. Really helps cement the characters’ personalities
i love how just the sound of a gunshot is enough for Evy to be like, its "O'Connell". Like shes gotten used to Rick constantly using his guns first for every occasion. Its a sweet moment when she realizes that Rick has come to "rescue the damsel in distress."
1:14 at least Rick managed to get the beetle out of Jonathan’s shoulder in time

Well it was made back in the days where writing and diracting was done by deserving people.
i only wish they had the tech back then that we have now. Great movies like this should have some great special effects.
He was the one who stole the key, and the reason why the journey to Hamunaptra happened.
The scarab should have been covered in blood after coming out of Jonathan's shoulder. But this was '98 so they did the best they could with the tech they had. Probably was an over sight.
I liked how even the humble Megi was in awe of the treasure room once it was illuminated.
It was to get a pg 13 rating, for all the violence in the movie you wouldn't see one drop of blood in the entire movie. Except in the fountain
