Especially when that crazy Mummy came to life-& wanted his "Mommy"!!! Just kidding. This Mummy was nothing short of fierce, powerful, and very vindictive. However, if you had some way of appeasing him, he'd show you some mercy. Beni found that out, personally. However, we all know just what a snivelling, cowardly, manipulative cheat that he was, and he even smirked at the Lady, who told him:"You know, nasty little men like you, always get their comeuppance"! However: Turns out she was right. Beni ended up trapped in that huge room, with all of that Gold around him...but with no light, an ever-shrinking supply of Oxygen...and millions of new acquaintances, in the form of Scarab Beetles, that literally ate him alive!!!
i always had a different feeling about him, perhaps not really a fair one. I grew up with Indiana Jones movies in my childhood, in contrast to this the Mummy franchise always appeared as a more dumbed down version of that trilogy, including the stories themselves and the actors as in Brendan Fraser hardly seemed to compare in such a role to harrison Ford besides even the character he plays is not exactly a Indiana Jones type "professor". I guess this is something that factored for all people of my gennneration getting into this franchise, it was always going to be compared to something like Raiders of the lost ark. Both movies in fact have a metaphysical element but the former resonated more with the christian public of the time in comparison to the very fantastical metaphysical elements of the Mummy which seem to some degree over the top and inconsistent. But in retrospect i can nowadays accept that this movie stands somewhat on it's own as a fairly enjoyable flick if you dont start with certain expectations, and Frasers as a actor starts to appear better in his own right too.
So many memories. I have watched this movie so many times, great comedy action, some horror too. The soundtrack is amazing and it's fantastic what they achieved with effects even back then. I can't remember a single moment in the movie that feels forced or acts as padding. Superb directing and acting.

The original Mummy movie was the best. When you're a kid they all seem the same or just as good but when you go back and watch as an adult (especially drunk) you realize that the first one was so much better and created a classic franchise for a reason.

Beni closed the door without even considering waiting for Rick, here. At the end of the movie, when the tables are turned, Rick stops running for the exit and waits at a fast closing door to try and give Beni more of a chance to escape. He doesn't succeed, but he waited for Beni as long as he could. Karma is indeed a bitch.
O'Connel essentially saved Beni in this scene too by instructing Beni to run inside for cover. So Beni mooches off of his protection, and left him in the lurch yet again a second time within a span of 5 minutes. The betrayals CONTINUE throughout the film. So Beni didn't desert O'Connel just once, but repeatedly... Until Nature /God decided to take note of his incorrigible behavior, Beni wasted all those chances to reform 🙏
O'Connel kept on saving/sparing Beni (give O'Connel a medal for patience /tolerance already😂, imagine having THIS DEGREE of tolerance for someone who actively tries to damage you every chance he gets) Beni kept on betraying O'Connel until......
And Greed as well; if Beni didn’t try to get that second bag of treasure while Hamunaptra was sinking at the end, he’d be able to reach O’Connell more quickly and be able to get out. At the end, his greed literally slowed him down and sealed his fate.
I must have seen this film over a 100 times because cable networks kept playing it a couple of times each week quickly followed by "making of the film". The CGI was top class back then. I didn't realise it then but Fraser was like the fittest horse in Hollywood.
It always seemed to be mummy returns that got replayed a lot on ITV here in the UK. A movie that sadly got mind numbing because of it,, oddly they haven't played it in about 12 years and it's now a great movie again. Jaws is the one currently they've made boring because of the rerun once a fortnight.

I still remember, I was in 4th grade, watching it till late night, and the next day I got fever. I got so scared from the scenes(where, the mummy comes alive, Rick fighting Mummy soldiers etc), I couldn't sleep all night.....
