There are so many layers to Sandinista that it really takes a lifetime to peel them all back: discovery, exploration, study and assimilation. This track is a perfect example of that phenomenon. Every time I listen to it I hear something new.
@@DominiqueVanheusden my perception of this song, particularly with Doggs's intro, which sounds striking familiar like an erhu, is a depiction of the struggle of the 1949 Chinese revolution which takes place in a part of the globe far from the Carribean. but that's just me, what the hell do I know?
We dont want no gang wars. This sentiment hits me. I consider myself, my politics, my religion as a Human, a Humanist. If I was only allowed to have one album for the rest of eternity it would be Sandinista! London Burning is my favorite ohh wait maybe dead mans party....maybe???..... point is favorite is hard to pick but Sandinista! is so diverse, creative I could for sure listen over and over and over.....
@perrycomeau2627 remember the pain of non rechargeable batteries for those walks? Always had to have some spares in your pack. Kids these days have it too easy.
By the way, The Equalizer is one The Clash’ greatist song, its almost perfect! I’ve slways loved this great song. Lyrics are Very good too. - jon fisher
@daveydudely9954 true, there's lots of other gang bosses like imperialism, sexism, and racism. Capitalism resonates for me because I do my organizing through a socialist organization that also fights different forms of oppression (The Democratic Socialists of America). I also think the struggle against all forms of oppression are likely to be a lot more successful if they're connected to the struggle against capitalist exploitation because the vast majority of people have a lot to gain from getting a bigger portion of what is currently being extracted by capitalists and more control over the decisions that affect their workplace and consumption, so that struggle has the most potential to unite a majority big enough to defeat the people in power.

Totally agree. So many great songs. It’s one of those albums that you have to experience from beginning to end. By far my favorite album by The Clash.
I'm still peeling off that onion... The Clash will be 4 ever to me, I got no issue...

Jamaican rhythms like ska or dub were the inspiration to make such good music as "The Equaliser".

Agreed.
I do like no gang wars, too.
Gang boss.
And there's more life than just humans bro.
Music can bring any people together, lyrics can be problematic.
Loved this album.
Still love the album, only triple vinyl we could afford. Back in the days, time is a bitch.
I didn't "win" Krista Freitas in fourth grade, but listening to Sandinista is quite the consolation prize

Bought this great Clash album on Vinyl when released…Still playing it over 40 years later…Quality.
I'm considering buying the vinyl from a local record shop, it's like $120 but i think it would be worth it :)
@@sirllamaiii9708 Even at $120, it’s a bargain. Six sides of pure Heaven. You wont regret it my friend. God Bless You 🙏🏻

I was in grade 9 when this came out. That was 40 years ago. I still listen to the same stuff I did then, mostly from that era.

No! Gang boss no!
We don't want the whip!
As you get weaker - it will get harder
So don't be like him
Keep your bones of effort and strength
Don't sell them to him
We don't want no gang boss
We want to equalize
To my fathers fathers fathers father
Work was no joy
When his son had grown of age
You got to work now boy
Never ceasing for many years
Want to follow that boy?
Till half and half is equalized
Put down the tools
See the car see the house
See the fabulous jewels
See the world you have built it with shoulders of iron
See the world but it is not yours say the stealers of Zion

Wall Street
Who makes them so fat?
Well well me an' you better think about that
In overdrive whooo
Till humanize is equalize
Put down the tools
Every face on every side
Throw down the tools
Stay at home

It's one to one the fight is on so don't go to war
We don't need no gang boss
We have to equalize
Sandanistaaaaaa!!
NO GANG BOSS NO!
Weeeeeeed!!!!
En esta decada de mierda. Tu me haces feliz. Q dios te bendiga
¡No!
No!
¡Jefe de pandilla, no!
Gang boss no!
¡No queremos el látigo!
We don't want the whip!
A medida que te debilites, se volverá más difícil.
As you get weaker - it will get harder
Así que no seas como él
So don't be like him
Mantén tus huesos del esfuerzo y la fuerza.
Keep your bones of effort and strength
No se los vendas
Don't sell them to him
No queremos ningún jefe de pandilla
We don't want no gang boss
queremos igualar
We want to equalize
A mis padres padres padres padre
To my fathers fathers fathers father
El trabajo no fue una alegría
Work was no joy
Cuando su hijo fue mayor de edad
When his son had grown of age
Tienes que trabajar ahora chico
You got to work now boy
Sin parar durante muchos años
Never ceasing for many years
¿Quieres seguir a ese chico?
Want to follow that boy?
Hasta que mitad y mitad se igualen
Till half and half is equalized
Deja las herramientas
Put down the tools
Ver el auto ver la casa
See the car see the house
Ver las fabulosas joyas
See the fabulous jewels
Mira el mundo que has construido con hombros de hierro.
See the world you have built it with shoulders of iron
Ver el mundo pero no es tuyo dicen los ladrones de Sión
See the world but it is not yours say the stealers of Zion

¿Quién los engorda tanto?
Who makes them so fat?
Bueno, bueno, será mejor que tú y yo pensemos en eso.
Well well me an' you better think about that
A toda marcha
In overdrive whooo
Hasta humanizar es igualar
Till humanize is equalize
Deja las herramientas
Put down the tools
Cada cara en cada lado
Every face on every side
Tira las herramientas
Throw down the tools
Quédate en casa
Stay at home

No necesitamos ningún jefe de pandilla
We don't need no gang boss
tenemos que igualar
We have to equalize
