Police say they took down Chad Doerman outside his Ohio home just after he shot his children execution-style in June. Now as Doerman heads for trial, both the prosecution and defense have filed a flurry of motions. The Law&Crime Network’s Jesse Weber discusses the latest developments with Angenette Levy, the host of Crime Fix.

Absolutely horrible to think what was going through their minds. One had to be taken out of his mother's arms and then murmered (that's how she had the shot to the hand trying to protect him and hold on to him) and another tried to run but Chad was faster (I refuse to call him their father). Sickening...what a POS.

The poor mother and sister, who both did all they could to help save them....I can't fathom the amount of grief and trauma they will have to work through - and for a long time to come. I hope one day soon all of the precious memories the boys they shared will bring so much peace and happiness to them. They are watching them from Heaven until they are all together again some day ❤️❤️❤️

Well the lady talking in this video said she doesn't believe in the death penalty, so there's at least one that feels bad for him.

Crime scene photos ARE WHAT THEY ARE. I'm so tired of handling people with kid gloves! You either did it, or you didn't... and the evidence should prove either way. It's not about the "feelings" of the defendant, but justice for the victims

Don’t forget there was a teenage sister as well as the mother whose life was devastated by this guy’s evil. And that poor sister witnessed the first murder & tried her hardest to save both of her brothers, then ran for help to the fire department. Even though she was ultimately unable to save them, she is a true hero for everything she tried to do to save her brothers.

I agree! However there's been several people who have done the same crime not have restraints. That one guy married his daughter and girlfriend and tried to murder his son ans burn them up and his son lived and he was allowed to defend himself, no restraints, walked around court. Chad is a selfish, cowardly piece of trash. He hated their mother more than he loved those babies and it’s repulsive. My heart breaks thinking about what her holidays will be like this year. He deserves no special privileges and needs to be released into gen pop as soon as they make sure everyone in the prison knows what he did.
I was thinking the same thing. Instead of happiness, shopping for her 3 little boys, playing Santa and watching their eyes glow with magic on Christmas morning, it will be a very somber and completely different experience than last Christmas. Just she and her daughter, who I hope is doing alright mentally as well. This is more than heartbreaking.

Imagine murdering your 3 sons and then being worried about how showing up in restraints might make you look bad. At this point is there anything that could make him look worse? Also to allow him not to be restrained because "he doesn't want to be in restraints" is absurd and I disagree with Angenette.

Remember Darrell Brooks when he ran down a parade of people then tried to make a huge deal about his "Shock Restraints" that were actually "Soft Restraints"? He held onto that so hard thinking it was going to win some kind of sympathy for him. Not many people care about what kind of restraints are used when you commit something as horrible as this

Even though he’s accused, and likely guilty of, killing his kids, he had the right to a defense at this point, and his lawyers job is to protect his client and help him present himself professionally in court. That’s his job.

As a first responder I know you will see things that will never leave you. As sad as it is I believe that the jury needs to see everything. It is what happened it is the reality of what the victims suffered through and what all the first responders and any law enforcement had to see. You should not filter out reality no matter how horried it is. That is what happened and sadly taking away pictures or videos will not bring those boys back hiding the horror and shock because it is gruesome is just nuts to me. That is why things get documented and photographed to preserve what happened because people's memory is not good. What he did was gruesome so why water it down? Because it will maike people sick and horrified? It should if it didn't I would wonder about their morals and what they think is ok for someone to do to another human.
The jury knows he’s a monster no matter what he wears
Jurors usually have to see the photos regardless, it's just the public that does not see them. Courts usually are required to provide therapy after these types of trials.

I would argue it would be a good idea to make sure his attorneys have no argument toward an unfair trial or a jury being biased by allowing him to appear in plain clothes and without shackles.

I don't understand why some want to reward people for being "model citizens" in jail. They weren't model citizens in society which caused them to land in jail in the first place. Just because he's "super nice" and being a "model prisoner" does not instantly dissolve (absolve, whatever) all of the things he's done. He's still a spineless father that EXECUTED his children - PLANNED BTW - to get back at his wife.

Our justice system requires a Not Guilt Plea to give everyone a fair trial. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Its just how it works but I understand the outrage. However, once you learn how court cases work and how everything is done to get a fair trial for everyone, it makes sense. I am a paralegal.
I truly hope that the mom and sister have someone helping them dealing with this, especially as Christmas is coming. This is beyond comprehension.

I listened to this about a minute, about the children being shot in the head, I couldn't watch anymore. I watch some trials, this one won't be one of them, I don't have the heart or stomach to watch.

I couldn’t understand why he killed his 3 boys and not his wife and step daughter. (I’m glad he didn’t though). But at the time his neighbors were interviewed by reporters and they stated that he was an angry man, who drank a lot, and there were rumors that his wife was going to leave him. It’s possible he killed those boys to make sure when she left him he’d break her heart. And he did.
Yeah, I'm not upset that he didn't murder his stepdaughter, but it does make me wonder why. It could be that she was simply too old and could fight back. However, it sounds like he actually had ample opportunity to shoot her and went out of his way to not shoot her.
It could be that he simply didn't feel the same sense of ownership over her as he did his sons. It could be that he liked her more than them exactly because she was older
His step daughter took off and tried to get help. He couldn't shoot her, she was gone.
He viewed the boys as his not the step daughter. In his mind he gave mom the boys so he took them. He wants the wife to live and suffer.

The dad caught up, ordered her to drop the boy while pointingthe gun at her, she did let him go (how heartbreaking for her, I cannot even imagine her trauma from being forced to hand the boy over), and the dad took the boy back to the house and ignored her. She then ran to call for help.

What makes a child being murdered different/more severe than any murder case? The murder of any human being in this manner is disgusting.
As someone who grew up with a very abusive father i guarantee that simply becoming a parent doesn't make you a good mother or father. Bad parenting ruins more lives than we really understand.

He planned the murders, that why when the police are there to arrest him he's demeanor is calm and controlled he'd knew the consequences and that didn't stop him, he's a monster what a tragic end to such beautiful little boys.

Parents killing their children is a clear indication of it for me, it's senseless, and downright evil.
