The scene where she sings this is so beautiful. Even after playing the game you still look out for it. You go to a bar in the shanty town. There you'll find a starving and frightened boy hiding from you and Elizabeth will ask you to lighten the mood while she sings and tries to comfort the boy.
Man, I sure hope this game is as absolutely breathtakingly beautiful as all of these trailers are making it out to be, I might need to buy an HD TV for this baby
I always love how Bioshock trailers have calm music. It makes the game seem so creepy which perfectly sums them up. It's a game riddled with hidden nuances and underlying tones driving the plot, and they always find a way to bring them out in the trailers.
It takes a genius to envision a game like this. I loved bioshock one because u can feel the effort and care that went into it. Games like this, Psychonauts, and a few others are games for game lovers, not for gamers.
For everyone who's asking what song this is, its a redone version of an old Carter Family song which has also been sung by Johnny Cash. "Will the circle be unbroken" Normal Lyrics - Will the circle, be unbroken? By and by lord, by and by. Is there a better home awaiting? In the sky lord, in the sky?
I cannot wait!!! So excited!! Love the song too, is it Elizabeth singing it or is it just a song already around? Regardless, it sounds beautiful and goes so well with the footage there.
@AngelicGuitar11 it was sung by the person who plays Elizabeth and the guitar was by the guy who plays booker, that's all i know i don't think there's a full song because it might just be tailored for the trailer.
My Word love this series. The atmosphere of Rapture pulled me in in a way few games ever have. When I first saw Columbia I was so excited due to my fondness for Steampunk. This game cannot come fast enough.
@HunterRossTV This song was written in the early 1900's, if that makes it any better. Not to mention Courtnee Draper who voices Elizabeth is singing and Booker's VA is playing guitar.
I see your point in disappointment. While I was also a little let down by the absence of a combat level at the scale shown in the 15 minutes gameplay trailer, I was pleased with what Irrational did with combat contents. Combat classes such as fireman, crow master, and especially handyman [as it proved to be very challenging in 1999 mode due to its aggressive nature] were unique and deepened the combat experience in my opinion.
Don't know why people are hating the song, it may not fit the trailer if that's your opinion, but it definitely fits the story. Glad they announced that Courtnee Draper did the vocals, I checked google as soon as I saw the trailer to see if it was her.
I like how there's a lot of games where it says, "this footage is not actual game play footage" but this one says, "this footage is made entirely from game play footage".
The singer is actually Elizabeth, from the game itself. That's funny, because before I even went to the website and it told us, I was thinking it was her. Her name is Courtnee Draper. Booker is Troy Baker, which also voices the protagonist in Saints Row 3.
Have played the first game and it's simply a masterpiece. Haven't played the second, though. Gonna get it soon. Definitely get this one when it comes out.
@Toah14 The original hymn didn't have the word "Lord" in it if that's what you're referring to. The Carter Family's arrangement was the first to include it.
@Cozzeneable and @freebearride References to 'Lord' were taken out as the original version (circa 1912) didn't have them. That time period is the same as what is being depicted in Bioshock Infinite. Those references weren't added until the 1930's.
Well, yes, I do. But that's me accepting something new. The Sky Line system isnt just zipping around; you can jump anywhere, meaning more options to use the combat space around you, rather than static shooting in corridors. Just like Bioshock never forced you to fight Big Daddies, Infinite won't force you to use the Sky Lines, (Bioshock has always been about player choice in combat.) but they're a useful tool for utilising the roofs and upper reaches of levels, as well as having fun, you know.
@loglog7 Rapture is mostly small spaces, Colombia is huge. The player can even use a sniper rifle. In Bioshock, there were water and oil slicks. In Infinite, there are turrets and skylines to name a couple of examples. Factions. Such as the Vox Populi and the Founders. In Bioshock it was everybody vs you. More people... Did you not watch the trailer? I have. There were sane people in there too. Story: Are you saying that the story in Infinite is going to be exactly the same?
the song is called "will the circle be unbroken" but u wont find this version because the bioshock franchise created it. it will probably be released in its soundtrack or something
@kacpisaj As far as I know, this particular version of "Will the circle be unbroken" was sung by the voice actress for Elizabeth. I don't recall her name off hand, though. On an unrelated note - when Songbird pops up at 0:41, it looks to me like he is holding two grips attached to his wings. This may not be right, but it makes it seem like Songbird is operating his wings by "flapping" his arms. If that's the case, it wouldn't be what I expected at all!
It makes perfect sense to call it BioShock. Adam is still around and thats what BioShock had always been based on. The gameplay, story, environment and characters all revolved around Adam. They're just called something else this time. Rapture was very much a character of BioShock more than it was just the environment. It had its own story. But Rapture has died so this time, Columbus takes center stage and it has its own story to tell you.
@pro13245 Unfortunatly you will not find this version of "Will the Circle be Unbroken" anywhere but in this trailer, this one is performed by two of the voice actors from Bioshock Infinite (Forgive me it is late and I don't feel like looking their names up).
@mitten09 I doubt you can find it, it was only this part of the song performed by Booker and Elizabeth (Forgot the actor/tress names) for this trailer.
@NettoSaito Another person got it wrong. This song was written by Ada R. Habershon. And this is the second to last verse in the hymn and it never had the word "Lord" in it.
Video games absolutely have the potential to illicit the same emotions as movies and books. As someone who has played games for over 2 decades I can say that without qualification. Doesn't mean everyone has to look at it that way. Some people are just here to have a good time. Not go on an adventure.
@C00Ltuber This song was not originally a hymn, some other artist got their hands on it and added all of said references to "the Lord" to the song. This is merely a return to one of the oldest versions of the song.
The song is called Will The Circle be Unbroken. Written in 1907. It's a Christian hymn and was pretty popular during the civil rights movement and other social struggles. Seems to totally fit with the Bioshock Infinite backstory.
The guys who worked on Dishonored also worked on Bioshock 2 as a small art team. This game was in development while they were working on Bio 2, so it's safe to say that Bioshock Infinite is original, whereas Dishonored isn't.
This is shaping up to be an awesome game, the city looks alive and the gameplay looks fun, although Im still not sure about the tears seeing as there are tears in certain spots, feels like using them will require less creativity but I trust them to make it work. My biggest worry is that Columbia will not feel as scary, real, and immersive as Rapture was
It terms of story, Columbus will excite. How Columbus came to be and what exactly is it? What happend on Columbus such that the city is in ruins? It was Adam that caused the downfall of Rapture so what caused it for Columbus? Who is Elizabeth and what exactly is Song Bird? What are these new enemies taking the place of the famed Big Daddies? Are they even human? There are hundreds of questions regarding the story for BioShock Infinite and from what has been shown, the answers will be exciting.
It technically is. Even if Ken didn't write the story, that doesn't mean it's not canon. Take the novelization of Bioshock, that book contradicts many things said in bioshock 1 and 2 yet regarded as canon surprisingly.
@theluckyshot7 The original version from 1908 didn't have "Lord" in the chorus if that's what you're referring to. The way this person sings it is exactly the way it was written. Other people added it into the chorus years later when it became popular.
This trailer was from an early version of the game. Therefore is different from the final release. For example, at 0:39 Comstock is depicted as a beard-less young man unlike in the real game which looks more like a santa claus.
"entirely from in-game footage"... ah, what in heaven's name are you talking about??
Her reaction to when that guy tried to grab her hand is so realistic! They really emphasized the feeling! Quite amazing!
The scene where she sings this is so beautiful. Even after playing the game you still look out for it. You go to a bar in the shanty town. There you'll find a starving and frightened boy hiding from you and Elizabeth will ask you to lighten the mood while she sings and tries to comfort the boy.
I love the art style, so colourful and bright!
Man, I sure hope this game is as absolutely breathtakingly beautiful as all of these trailers are making it out to be, I might need to buy an HD TV for this baby
That song literally brings tears to my eyes. SO beautifully done.
I always love how Bioshock trailers have calm music. It makes the game seem so creepy which perfectly sums them up. It's a game riddled with hidden nuances and underlying tones driving the plot, and they always find a way to bring them out in the trailers.
Good to know. I've listened to his cover of "Hurt". He really put emotion into his music.
This is brilliant - awesome coupling with the sad rendition of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?"
Can't wait for this game to come out!!
It's really cool how they keep everything really authentic. Anybody else could have played the background guitar.
don't think I've ever been more excited for a game to be released.
this is one of the best trailers ive seen since the mad world gears of war trailer
It takes a genius to envision a game like this. I loved bioshock one because u can feel the effort and care that went into it. Games like this, Psychonauts, and a few others are games for game lovers, not for gamers.
Saw the new mechanized patriot and I have to say, I'm quite impressed. Keep up the good work guys. ^ ^
After completing the story you'll see how beautiful the song is in regards to the game.
Can't wait for this one!! Bioshock is my favorite franchise of this generation.
For everyone who's asking what song this is, its a redone version of an old Carter Family song which has also been sung by Johnny Cash. "Will the circle be unbroken"
Normal Lyrics -
Will the circle, be unbroken? By and by lord, by and by. Is there a better home awaiting? In the sky lord, in the sky?
This has been a must have game since the first teaser that was released.
this is such a perfect trailer for any game I've ever seen.
This song, my troubles seem to disappear when I listen to it. The lady who does the voice of Elizabeth did a marvelous job singing it!
My Word love this series. The atmosphere of Rapture pulled me in in a way few games ever have. When I first saw Columbia I was so excited due to my fondness for Steampunk. This game cannot come fast enough.
Terrific. This and Tomb Raider are now both delayed till next year. This year for games is not turning out like we hoped for
"Will The Circle Be Unbroken" is an old hymn. It's been sung by a bunch of people including Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and even Willie Nelson.
Definitely the game I'm looking forward the most for next year.
Gave me cold chill, I am so excited for this game, but so sad that it's not coming out for a while :(
@HunterRossTV This song was written in the early 1900's, if that makes it any better. Not to mention Courtnee Draper who voices Elizabeth is singing and Booker's VA is playing guitar.
seriously... bioshock has got to be the best gaming franchise ever
Cannot wait for this. The brightness and seemingly normal look of Columbia makes it all the more unsettling. Because we know it's not.
Incredible trailer, once again.
I love movies and games that put you on the edge and mess with your mind
I see your point in disappointment. While I was also a little let down by the absence of a combat level at the scale shown in the 15 minutes gameplay trailer, I was pleased with what Irrational did with combat contents. Don't know why people are hating the song, it may not fit the trailer if that's your opinion, but it definitely fits the story. Glad they announced that Courtnee Draper did the vocals, I checked google as soon as I saw the trailer to see if it was her.
@LISIAK555 The singer is the voice actress for Elizabeth in game. Her name is Courtney Draper.
I've noticed it's alot brighter than the other two, even with the evil and death and destruction, I feel happy.....
My most anticipated games of 2012 so far: Far Cry 3, Mass Effect 3, Max Payne 3, Bioshock Infinite, Aliens: Calonial Marines, and GTA 5.
Elizabeth is now my #1 Video Game Crush
@HunterRossTV It is a song from that era. "You're a grand old flag" written in 1906
I don't care how little it revealed, this was beautiful!
this trailer gives me goosebumps just like silent hill 2 trailer back in 2001..good job ken levine
@MrDemocles thank you for pointing that out. Hope this doesn't be a misunderstood issue.
I like how there's a lot of games where it says, "this footage is not actual game play footage" but this one says, "this footage is made entirely from game play footage".
love the music from this trailer!
I saw this one comment about old songs, here it is:
No autotune?
Just *GASP* talent?!
This video made me tear up. Not from the song but just knowing I have to wait even longer for this game. :'(
Now that's brilliant! Can't wait for this new BioShock game. Infinite surprises:)
This is gonna be Badass , can't wait
The singer is actually Elizabeth, from the game itself. That's funny, because before I even went to the website and it told us, I was thinking it was her. Her name is Courtnee Draper. Booker is Troy Baker, which also voices the protagonist in Saints Row 3.
i wish they had put some of the things showed here but it doesn't matter in the end because its an amazing game
@Armadio21 This version is sung by Courtnee Draper, Elizabeth's voice actress. The full version hasn't been released yet.
song is called "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?"
this is going to be game of the decade
This is probably an original version recorded for the purpose of the trailer, the song was written in 1907! I'm sure it'll surface eventually
this song matches perfectly with the question of whether leaving the world to tray and create a better one is wise, or even possible!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS!!!!
it looks even better now in my opinion
Fun Fact 2: The voice actor for Elizabeth did the vocals for this trailer.
the song in the background is beautiful.
Have played the first game and it's simply a masterpiece. Haven't played the second, though. Gonna get it soon. Definitely get this one when it comes out.

@Instab It is. Sets an emotional tone for he game.
The color The color, this game is spot on can't wait!
I love the song in the trailer!
Another great trailer from Irrational.
2012, Y U NO HERE YET
Well, yes, I do. But that's me accepting something new. This will be the game of the year
@RecklessYouth333 i agree. i LOVED the way the original used its music in its trailer
@kacpisaj As far as I know, this particular version of "Will the circle be unbroken" was sung by the voice actress for Elizabeth. I don't recall her name off hand, though. @pro13245

who ever thought that a good day could look so sad and dark.

No, it was Elizabeth's guardian when she was imprisoned. The creature you see attacking Booker in the end is this game's version of the Big Daddies.
The guys who worked on Dishonored also worked on Bioshock 2 as a small art team. This game was in development while they were working on Bio 2, so it's safe to say that Bioshock Infinite is original, whereas Dishonored isn't.

@gouki290 You missed it by a day or two. They were aired on December 10th.
agree!...but than again, "bioshock" is a masterpiece....absolute beauty. it's just hard too top a masterpiece.
kinda like the new game, spreads more into the Bioshock universe plus can't wait to see what crazy stuff is in this game!
@theluckyshot7 The original version from 1908 didn't have "Lord" in the chorus if that's what you're referring to. The way this person sings it is exactly the way it was written. Other people added it into the chorus years later when it became popular.
@UndeadFatality The lyrics she sings actually are the original lyrics of the hymn the more commonly known version is based on.

This game looks lovely.
That was the voice actress of Elizabeth singing?
Dang it, now I'm in love.
Elizabeth's voice-over and the images from Columbia.
