This is the story of our good friend Iain's Pontiac build. If you recognise him, thats probably because you've seen our HQ build or our Subarute we did with Roadkill a few years back. We hope you enjoy this video as much as he's enjoying the womp.
Hi guys. I would love to see more of this build. I would certainly watch this on the main channel.
And want to say thanks to Davo he does some great work for his friends.
Yo, what Pauly said
Thanks so much to Marty & MOOG for letting me take over Super Garage with this giant barge of a car, and to all my mates who've helped me put this thing together. I also need to publicly thank my wife and family for sticking by me through all the trials and tribulations of these cars. When it comes to building cars the most valuable thing you can have isn't a big tool chest or unlimited budget - it is the support of your friends and family, so I can never thank mine enough for helping me get this giant hooptie running.
It’s stunning brother, congratulations. 👍🏻
You’re welcome mate, these are never as simple and straight forward as you’d like but you have a great group of people around you to help get it done!
Nice ride mate.... all she needs is a set of centre caps to finish her off!
I love it mate. What a journey!
Great to see you finally enjoying it after everything mate, you've done a great job and well deserved Iain.
This stopped me in my tracks. I’ve always seen Iain as a joker, a fun bloke. I just saw the serious side of him. Sounds like he has experienced some hardships on deeper levels than given over here.
Can we have more of this stuff? It kind of adds to what Super Garage is about from your intro to the project a couple of years ago.
This is a good idea guy's. You two and your mates should share car stories on here from learning to drive to now. Sorry for your loss in the fire that sucks.
and roadtrips
I've never been a fan of big American yank tanks. But what I am a fan of is stories like this. Doesn't matter what the car, bike, boat or whatever is, the passion someone like Iain has for their project, the love and commitment and time put in is what makes it amazing and kept me glued to the screen. Hope we can see more videos like this in the future.
Me too, but that car is beautiful! With that sort of passion it almost doesn't even matter what type the body shell is.
This car has been lurking in the background since the very first episodes inside Super Garage. The story behind it is so much greater than I could have imagined.
Its so nice to hear a genuine guy talking about his car (build) 🙂
This is a main channel production. When I say production I mean this is epic. The story, the details, edit, and audio. There seems to be a quality to the video or cameras that is noticeable from the first frame. Iain is clearly a comfortable, concise narrator and presenter due to his experiences. Love the car, love the experience, love the journey.
I've been waiting for this car to show up after seeing in the book. What a great car, a great story and a great owner. Well done mates.
The land barge.. Ive been waiting for this one
Iain is one of the most genuine blokes I've come across - So sick to see this come to life 😍
oh you xoxo
My Dad had some Pontiac shells when we were growing up in the 80's and I always loved the shape of them. This one is definitely a unique combo oof engine and gearbox, and it's turned out so great. That color looks amazing even on film, so I'm sure it's even better in person. Thank-you for sharing your story. I'm so glad your mates were there for you when you needed them. Good friends are worth their weight in gold for real. Yours probably saved your life. I've lost too many mates to depression. Like I always tell people though, leaving doesn't mean it can't get worse, it only guarantees it will NEVER get any better.
Thanks for fighting through and finishing this amazing ride. I hope she serves you well for many decades.
I was born and raised in Fresno, where the Pontiac was originally sold. My Grandpa used to sell cars in Selma at the GM then later the Ford dealerships. What a small world!
Such an awesome car and such an awesome owner!
And thanks MCM and Super Garage for having enough space (just) to get this thing off the ground!
What an awesome film. That Bonneville is glorious. I hope this becomes a recurring series of you and your mates cars.
Thanks so much for sharing your story with all 32 of us.
The car is testament to your perseverance, hard work and dedication to a dream,
Well done mate and hope to see you in Queenscliff again soon!!!
All 32 people must have commented 3 times. The real test of who knows about this channel is do they know what franking is. 🤣
@@paule4204 😂😂😂
There was a link posted on the blog while the video was still unlisted, and I was the 25th person to view it. I was wondering where the other seven of you were ;)
Gotta leave this comment at 32 likes
@@3ToeCo 🤣
Beautiful story good on him thank you MCM for sharing this mans journey.
Double thumbs up for this interview… brilliant viewing gold
I've been waiting literally YEARS for you to make a video of this car. Finally it's here!
Ain't no Peugeot 405 though.
Those wheels!
Big, old cars are awkward, difficult to play with, and just lovable, magical things.
Go MOON!
We definitely need more of these kind of videos on this channel soon!
We need more car guy stories like this. Sorry for the loss. Mad respect that Ian bounced back and got up again, this car is testament to that and the amazing group of people that go up with him too. Well done ❤️ Good wishes for a healthy new year.
Great presentation guys. Simply beautiful.
I can feel for Iain's first trip in the Bonneville. I spent 8 years remodeling a 1981 Airstream trailer. The first trip out in the fall of 2021 was sheer, white-knuckle terror for two hours. Unhitching it at our camp spot never felt so good. Since then, we've taking it on almost 5,000 miles on trips up and down the Eastern US coast. Love our "Belle."
Awesome story.
A car is never perfect but the journey & the family/friends is what makes it unique and special.
Scars show stories & some have a lot to tell,
Sweet ride ❤🍻👍🏼
What a beautiful story. There's been plenty of cars in my life that I should have had much more love for, but they fell short. Then, there's these weirdos that inexplicitly have captured my heart. I've regretted selling them every day, but now I understand why. Them, like me were in a tough, trying point, looking for answers to the future. You know what, videos like this help us realize we found them. We may be separated, but the emotion remains.
Fantastic. Format, such great production, storytelling at its best....kudos lads
I never expected this, what a passionate and epic build story. Iain laid this out as bare and real as it was, thanks for sharing and showing the beautiful result in the end. I really would like to see more other stories like this. Great filming.
I felt every word he said. I am sooo close to the first start of my project. My high school car. I graduated in 86. Last on the road late 80’s. Lockdown happened just after I started the build. I have learned how to weld, wire and 3D print parts to put it together. I can. Only dream of having my wife enjoy the car as she has never seen it all together.
That hit so hard in the feels. Going through my own build right now. Being set back by life. This tugged my eyeballs.
Congrats Iain and Super Garage for helping him. Yous did good.
Love this story. Its so far from both my own normal tastes and experience of cars, and also what we ever get to see (in the UK) but its a great story, and a really, really cool piece of machinery with a proper soul and character.
Absolutely love this story. I empathize completely with how building a car can heal wounds of personal tragedies by channeling that anxiety into something creative, and especially! - the feeling of dread in the first white-knuckle drive and how unexpected that is - you all of a sudden realize the car isn't an academic idea anymore, it's emerged from the garage/shed now and has to survive out on the road. I imagine any parent can understand that feeling of wanting to protect their own children, and this isn't far off. I remember, that caught me off-guard too! Well done fellas.
That’s an awesome car with an even better story. Great job with the car Lain and thanks for sharing it with us.
Nothing better than mates pitching in & lending a hand to build your dream. RESPECT.
What an incredible story, and what a stunning car, and what legendary mates! I love you guys. Thank you for sharing.
im a JDM guy but that pontiac is stunning, the colour is phenomenal
That car is strikingly beautiful, great job
Great story! I can empathize on so many levels! SPent 20 years playing with my old Fairmont and still love driving it every chance I get!!!
What an awesome story, great human and wonderful car! More of these types of stories, please.
When it comes to "REALITY", life tends to give you some "side challenges"...
GREAT BUILD BRO!
Absolutely mint! Cracking colour!!
This is by far the best most professional mcm has ever been
Congratulations Iain on such an amazing build. It looks fantastic. Been a long road to get down but now you can cruise the rest of the way and enjoy it. Well done.
This was excellent to watch and hopefully you do more mate build type videos.
I grew up in this car but my pops had hydraulics with 16 switches it was a dark blue with all sorts of different flakes in it. you have a beautiful piece of art.
Amazing car and great story! The color is perfect!
I expected to watch a minute or 2 of this video then skip over it. Instead I watched it all and was left wanting more!
Love seeing this! Currently working on a full engine rebuild on my '74 Pontiac GTO. Smiled a bit when you said 6.6 liter.
Go Marv! 👍 Such a wealth of knowledge and a great photo taker too.
There are many perfect shapes for a car, and this is one of them.
The Church guys are the best guys in socal. Had many mates have their cars tuned by them, not a single complaint.
Favourite type of build for a vintage car. Bin the original engine and trans. Reliability is what a grand car body deserves.
Actually I shed a tear. Happy 2023!
This was souch a inspirational video ! I´m building my first big project and i´m doing a ls1 5.7 twinturbo manual aftermarket ecu swap to mine 70s Skylark :D
Would love to see more vids like this so many great cars out there ! Thanks guys
Growing up in the '50-'60s my friend had a 64 Bonneville. It was the fanciest old car in the early '70s. I love your build!
Straight after the latest Turbos & Temples and this is the same message - Yet again we learn that it's not really about the car - It's about the journey you go on. An excellent little film, which could easily be on a main channel
Good dude. Deserves the joy of driving the wheels off of it for as long as he can!
Wow... What an epic adventure you've been on to finalise the build. Congrats bro. I can imagine you'd be over the moon. You've done it. Enjoy! How awesome!
It's Iain!!! Both BCW and MCM need more Iain on the shows!!! What a funny legend!!!
I enjoyed this video immensely. Thanks for sharing the journey Iain.
Once you have the car you want and how you want it the build cost may as well be zero. That’s a bloody nice car with a rollercoaster of a story to come with it.
Awesome guy, awesome story. This is why I love the MCM people. Marty and Moog are so relatable and real, and so are the people they keep around them
Hats of good sir.. Lovely car 🚗 cracking story 👏 enjoy every moment driving that road boat 🚢 😀 👍 👏 👌
That paint is the *perfect* colour :)
Fantastic video, it really epitomises what it is to be a car person, the love, passion, heartbreak and hopefully bliss at the end of a build. The story was told fantastic and had me hooked. Really enjoyed seeing and old school car on here for once.
Can't overstate the the feeling you get driving something you built yourself, sure it may not be multimillion dollar Car Porn but you built it for you no one else, well done Iain!
Incredible journey mate, glad you have been able to finish it off to enjoy it. A gorgeous machine that deserves plenty of airtime on the media outlets
Stunning! Beautiful story and outcome!
Beatiful car and a great story behandling it
Stunning, great style of video too.
This guy is brilliant! Resilient, relentless, down to earth and appreciative of his good people around him.
You did an amazing job and deserve to enjoy this machine. It looks ace!
Bought a 64 about 6 months ago. Its not the car I wanted but she is the car I have. Let the build begin.
Well done Marv!!! Good to see it out and being enjoyed, following this build I've seen a couple of the ups and downs, good to see the outcome!! It's absolutely awesome!!
rad man, congratz. That car looks insanely good now, and I bet it drives even better!
This is incredible! I love this story format, please do more
You have ended up with a simply beautiful car after all that heart break and hard times
This is awesome, amazing looking car and truly deserving owner 🤘🏻
Love this story! I'm building a 1965 Catalina Ventura and im a born chevy guy! Love my 65 and I'm going to 6.0 LS swap it soon. Thank you for the inspiration! God Bless!
Been there, done that brother.
There's nothing quite like looking at a pool of cold metal and realizing it was not just your tools, but also your dreams.
Glad you made it through! I also have a Bonneville to keep me sane, but mine has two wheels and only 130hp
This was an awesome episode guys, absolutely love this car so tastefully done. Hopefully you guys can do a few more videos like this!!
Wow. That's a passionate car.
What an awesome build! Thanks for sharing a great story - nice one Iain
Good time's nicely done boys
Benny really sounds like a good mate to have
he is one of the best humans you can call a friend. Absolute legend!
I've been waiting for this episode ever since the last book was released, freakin awesome!
One of my all-time favourite cars ever! Love it.
Have followed Marv on instagram for a few years and knew his name from the magazines and mcm but never really truely knew what a nightmare and inturn journey he went through to see his vision come true with this car. I know its not main MCM content but this really should have been brought to the main channel because to the people who maybe wont enjoy the content of a ls swapped American land barge they could all relate or possibly feel emtionally connected to how life and cars can be tough but with the right drive and support group regardless of them helping on the car or just to push you along you can acheive so much more than ourselves even know
Well done Marv and thank you to everyone surrounding him for helping this car reach its end goal. Now to slap it in drive and get some smiles going 👍
Beautiful car and an awesome story.
Beautiful car, I love the old Pontiacs.
Awesome build. I have a 65 Pontiac 2+2. Would love to do that to mine.
finally, been waiting to see this ever since i saw it in the coffee table book
Great vid, beautiful car. Please do more of these!
When I owned my M38A1 I remember someone saying "If you put $10,000 into the jeep, you will have a really good $5,000 jeep".
By the by, love the license plate.
Cheers to you, mate. Congratulations
beautiful story! thanks for sharing it with us, dreams do come true if your work for them!
Benny, what a legend, Iain what a legend.
Also been wondering when this car would appear in the MCM channels 🤔
This is the inspiration I need to buy the 65 Catalina down the road from me, and rebuild it.
Awesome video guys. Absolutely loved it.. Congrats Iain on the build, you are one of a kind.
More of these stories please!
Loved this video. Great car, great dude, great story, great vid production
What a great video! Cool car, great story and a pleasure to watch. I had to stop everything and watch it like a movie!
